Overview

About the property

Located in the heart of Kingswear village and 100 metres from the River Dart

The Bolthole is a detached property nestled in the valley in the heart of Kingswear just above the River Dart and Waterhead Creek with Dartmouth in view across the river. Newly developed using carefully selected reclaimed materials mixed with all the modern comforts to complement. It is located on the slope above our main house and has a lovely little private garden with its own deck overlooking the River Dart with the hills in the distance and Waterhead Creek just below. You can retreat from the hustle and bustle of Dartmouth in the private garden and enjoy the evening sun whilst Dartmouth is in the shade. The idea and inspiration was to create a hidden space to escape to and the perfect base to explore South Devon & Cornwall. The property is a cosy and compact studio, split level with a coastal feel by way of white washed T&G timber and a hardwood waxed wooden floor reclaimed from marina boards having been weathered for 20 years. The King-size bed has a memory foam mattress and white Egyptian cotton bed linen, we also provide white bath and hand towels. To get you started we also provide tea, coffee, sugar, milk, salt, pepper, handwash, toilet roll and washing up liquid. There is an area to cook in a modern well equipped kitchen and a vintage dining table & chairs. Natural light floods in and the terrace outside has the afternoon and evening sun with double french doors that open to the oak steps up to the deck. Please view the recent images which hopefully gives an initial feel of whats on offer. Free street parking is 5mins walk away and paid parking is across the road in Dart Haven Marina. Both car and passenger ferries to cross the river are 5 mins walk away, so just park up and most things can be done on foot.

About Matthew

Hi, my wife and I bought the property last year as we've lived in Dartmouth for some time but wanted to experience the lovely river views and the afternoon & evening sun! The Bolthole is separate to the main house has just been developed specifically for people to enjoy where we live. We're more than happy to assist with any local knowledge and tips but rest assured if you don't want any contact then your stay will be very private while you're here, it's your home from home.

Matthew purchased this apartment in 2016

Why Matthew chose Kingswear

The central village location, river views, short distance to all amenities and the enjoyable ferry trip to Dartmouth, plus we hope it's very comfy.

What makes this apartment unique

Walking distances to shops, restaurants, pubs, a theatre, a cinema, marinas, ferry trips, steam train, steam boat, coastal path, country walks, beaches are a short to name a few things.

Hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

I loved everything about this little place. From its location to all the little comfort touches provided on arrival. Matt was so quick to respond with any query both before and during my stay. I found the bathroom snall but its an extremely functional space. I found cooking in the kitchen area pretty easy. They also have all the utensils you could possibly need. All in all its a great use of space. You can utilise the street parking however it's restricted from 10-3pm. But as I was out every day it saved me the £8 per day parking charge at the marina.

I'd definitely recommend it.

Compact, comfortable and practical

  • 4 of 5

Cooking is possible but involves different bits of equipment. View is just visible from the terrace, which is a lovely place to sit in the evening sun. The step in the split level floor could do with a white edge to make it more obvious in half light. The whole place is lovely and clean and the bed very comfortable.

Really enjoyed our stay. The Bolthole has been very well designed to include everything you need for a short trip. The furnishings are of a very high quality and Matthew is quick to respond to any queries. Close to local pubs, the ferry and bus stops too. A little gem!
