With its own FULLY FITTED KITCHEN for your sole use, a private bathroom, this 1 bedroom flatlet within our own home is perfect for the independent single tourist, business traveller or mature student visitor wishing to be in the heart of London. It has easy access to the underground [“the tube”] at West Kensington [4 minutes’ walk] and Baron’s Court [8 minutes’ walk]. The Olympia Exhibition Centre is a 3 minute walk away. Kensington High Street? 8 minutes on foot, by bus 3 minutes.

Buses are many and within a 2 – 4 minute walk from here.

THE SPACE – Generally:

Located on a quiet residential West Kensington street, our well-appointed flatlet is perfect for the independent traveller or business visitor and offers all the comforts of home, office facilities too if needed [see below]. It is accessed via a shared [with us] front entrance door and has its own door within our quarters and so is completely private.

The flatlet [18.70 sq. m/201 sq. ft] comprises a single bedroom [overlooking the pretty garden], private bathroom and fully fitted kitchen for your exclusive use. The rooms will be professionally cleaned, the linens changed, once a week during your stay. The flatlet is served by BT Infinity fibre optic Wi-Fi and has its own landline telephone.

THE FLATLET – In Detail:

SINGLE BEDROOM - with fitted wardrobes, hangers, a hair dryer, a laptop friendly desk and chair, landline ‘phone, a side chair, alarm clock and a Smart TV. [Bed 3ft/91cm wide.]

Generous bedding, linen and towels are provided with a choice of summer or winter weight duvets. Non-feather pillows can be provided – just let me know at time of booking.

THE KITCHEN - contains fitted units, a breakfast bar, electric oven, gas hob, microwave, ‘fridge, sink, toaster, kettle, cafetiere [French press], combined washer/dryer, cutlery, utensils, china, glass, pots, pans – an electric mixer if you wish to bake a cake! – and all the usual kitchen paraphernalia [tea, coffee, salt, pepper, oil, herbs and spices etc.,] that you have at home in your kitchen.

THE PRIVATE BATHROOM – fitted with hand basin, lavatory, bath and hand-shower. Drying rack for those items you do not wish to put into the tumble drier.

Shampoo, conditioner, soaps, tissues, cotton buds and cotton pads are also provided for your use so no need to pack those..

GARDEN – there is direct access from your kitchen to the pretty, brick paved garden which you are free to use; it has a table, chairs, an external power supply and garden lighting. I am very happy if guests wish to entertain business colleagues or friends there but, being considerate of the neighbours, no loud music out there, please.

ALSO PROVIDED:

An iron and ironing board, FM radio, central heating for the winter, a fan if the summer weather gets hot and a convector heater if those nights are chilly. US & EU to UK electric plug convertors, an umbrella and other useful bits and pieces.

Carbon monoxide detector and smoke alarms are also installed, together with a fire extinguisher and a ‘simple to use’ burglar alarm which covers the flatlet and our personal quarters. A Gas Safety inspection is undertaken annually, a copy of which is within the flatlet.

EDIBLES on Arrival:

In order that you do not need to go shopping immediately upon arrival, I will provide you with milk, eggs, cheddar cheese, bread, butter, yoghourts, cereals, OJ, bottled water and fruit, marmalade and jam, tea, ground and instant coffee too. Pasta and a pasta sauce, tinned tuna, crisp breads and other dry goods are also supplied so you can make yourself a quick supper if you have been working late or have been tramping around museums and have had no time to shop.

If you have any dietary preferences [i.e., you prefer gluten free bread, or regarding the type of milk you prefer], then do let me know.

OVERNIGHT GUEST?

A good, comfy Intex inflatable bed is available for the occasional weekend or over-night visitor if you are a long-stay guest [2 weeks+] but only with our prior approval.

There will be a nominal charge for this additional guest, the laundry and cleaning.

OFFICE FACILITIES?

As I run my business from here, I have a printer, scanner, office stationery, stamps etc and will be pleased to help you with anything you may require for your business or travel purposes.

RESIDENT CAT

We have a one of these. See photo on listing. Whilst he just loves people he is not allowed into your quarters so you may only see him in the garden via the bedroom window or as you come and go through our shared front door/stairs to your quarters.

Clearly, if you are allergic to cats, then this is not the accommodation for you as there will be “fur on the breeze”.

SMOKING

No smoking is allowed in your rooms though you may do so in the garden.

HOUSE RULES

We have no ‘house rules’ per se, excepting mutual respect and consideration for each other.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

This part of West Kensington is predominantly residential and so is very quiet. Public transport of all types is within just a few minutes’ distance. I have lived in West Ken for 30+ years and walking here, day or night, has never been a concern. North End Road market is close by [4 minute bus ride, 10 minute walk]; Kensington High Street is on our doorstep [3 minute bus ride, 8 minute walk] as is the Westfield Shopping Mall [6 minutes by tube; Westfield has cinemas, restaurants, bars as well as great shops].

There is too much around here to put in writing now so – come and explore!

GETTING AROUND

Getting around London [or within the UK] is very easy from here as we are SO central. You will find a broad range of travel books, maps, transportation literature in your quarters to help you during your visit. Do buy yourself a “Visitor's Oyster Card” for London’s public transport travel as soon as you arrive at London Heathrow - or you can do this on line [via “Transport for London”] before your arrival. Alternatively, if you have a 'contactless' credit or debit card, this works the same as the Visitor's Oyster card on all London’s public transport.

BIKE HIRE

There are several racks of “bikes to hire” in the neighbourhood, all within walking distance. Ask me and I’ll give you detail of their locations.

ABOUT US and GUEST INTERACTION

Our maisonette comprises 2 [combined] flats; we live on the raised ground floor, your flatlet and my office [I work from home as an interior designer] is on a level with the garden. We have been letting the flatlet for over 25 years and whilst your privacy will be fully respected, I am around during the weekdays [we are usually away at weekends] to answer any questions, advise on ‘what to see’ in London and the UK, or to just have a chat if you wish!

We love having guests here to stay and will make you feel ‘at home’ [or leave you alone] as much or as little as you wish.

FINDING US

Reaching us from London Heathrow Airport is simple. Take the train from LHR to Baron’s Court [Piccadilly line] and then change platforms and take the District Line train for the one stop journey to West Kensington. There is then only a 4 minute walk to us.

[Also see “Getting Around” above.]

CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT TIMES

We'll be as flexible as we can regarding check-in and check-out times, subject other guest's bookings of course.

STEPS

Please note that there are 6 steps to walk up from the street to the main front door and then 12 down to access the garden floor; consequently, the accommodation may not suit those who are frail or infirm.

YOUR OWN INSURANCE

Seems obvious to say, but please ensure you have adequate insurance to cover both your travel plans and your personal belongings.

About Trish Walker

I am an interior designer and have run my practice for some 30 years, handling the design, project management [and everything else from the ground up] for high end residential properties in Central London and the South East of England. I Can describe myself as a 'baby boomer’, who has an eclectic taste in music from Tchaikovsky, Dvorak to Techno, Dance and everything in between and beyond too. I have latterly discovered the joys of gardening! I enjoy the theatre as does my partner, Kim. He is an accomplished amateur actor, director, producer of some long experience whilst running his own business too. He is a fluent French speaker. We love having guests come stay so we can enjoy, and learn from them as much as we hope they will appreciate us and what we can tell them about our lovely London. Having a Resident Feline is a must for me. For Kim? Good food and wine in the 'fridge is Kim’s preference so he, as self-appointed Chef of the household and enamoured of Good Food, can cook a decent supper.

Trish Walker purchased this apartment in 1989

Why Trish Walker chose West Kensington

If you are travelling on your own – whether for business, as a tourist or a mature student – then our West Kensington, very central London accommodation gives you The Best of all Worlds. Total independence – to cook, sleep, bathe, spend time in the garden, to come and go as you wish whilst knowing there are friendly faces [me and my partner, Kim] who will help you, give advice and chat, as much or as little as you wish and with complete personal safety too. Much better than staying in an impersonal hotel, or in a flat on your own, I’d say. I have been enjoying hosting Guests here for over 25 years so know all the “bells and whistles” to make your stay with us a memorable one.

What makes this apartment unique

Your own "home within a home" here gives you, as a single traveller, total independence with the comfort of knowing that your Hosts are born and bred Londoners and that we are here to advise and support you during your visit without encroaching on your own personal space [that, of course, works both ways ...].

What could be better when visiting the wonderful City of London than to have your own Kitchen, Private Bathroom and Bedroom, in such a good location for the sights, for transport, free and easy access to come and go as you wish and all with the comfort of knowing that you will be safe and supported?

Warm, cosy and conveniently located in a great area.

Trish and Kim went above and beyond to make sure that their flat has everything a person needs on a visit to London. The flat itself is on a quiet and safe street that is stumbling distance from the tube and buses. Trish is thoughtful and makes sure that you feel welcome. There were even fresh flowers! They even helped with my beast of a bag. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to a solo traveler. Trish and Kim are thoughtful and gracious hosts. Thank you for everything.

Owner's Response: Ada was a total pleasure to host, the only downside being that her stay with us was far too short! She is charming, open-hearted and bright of eye. She left her quarters here in immaculate condition and was an excellent communicator ahead her arrival so I felt I already knew her before the ring on the doorbell. Most reassuring for Hosts to know a little about who is coming to stay. Should you receive a Reservation Request from Ada, do accept it with alacrity. I promise that you will be as pleased as we were to meet and to host her. It is a privilege for me to recommend her; she was the perfect guest.

Five Plus Stars All Around

  • 5 of 5

This was one of those places and one of those experiences that make me appreciate even more, VRBOs.

The location is fantastic, VERY quiet and safe neighborhood with beautiful architecture everywhere. The apartment itself is the kind of place I could have lived in long-term yet, thanks to Trish’s thoughtfulness, it feels like a holiday home with all the amenities. Loved the bedroom, with its’ lovely patio garden view and you can open the windows, WIDE, in the morning, to hear the birds singing away and maybe even coax Ozzy, Trish’s lovely kitty over to say hello.

I really appreciated the lovely oversized tub, I’m a “bath”person and it was lovely to relax in for a soak.

Above all else, it is Trish that makes this place special. I was here for several nights on an impulsive trip to see The Royal Wedding and, trust me, it could have been a catastrophic mess if not for Trish looking up trains and maps for me. She is the reason that the day was an enormous success and thanks to her giving me helpful hints, so that I managed a prime spot for viewing!!!

She also is quite a fine tour guide, letting me know other things to see in London. I loved staying here and feel lucky to have met such a wonderful host.

I have stayed in MANY VRBO’s. This one is one I’ll never forget.

Owner's Response: It was a total delight to host Amanda, the only downside being that her stay with us was far, but far too short! She is charming, open-hearted, interested in all sorts and everything and it was such a pleasure to help her get up and running in London, direct her to some of the best sights to see and not least towards Windsor for that Wedding! I was very sorry to see her leave this morning [as was Ozzy, the cat] and do so hope she will return to London one day so that we can meet again. Amanda left her quarters here in immaculate condition, just as she had found them. She even took the time to strip her bed, put the linens and towels into the washing machine which guests seldom, if ever, do. She was also keen to learn about how to secure the property – not because of a concern for herself [West Kensington is a very safe residential area] but out of respect for her quarters, and for us. Much appreciated. Oh yes, not to forget, Amanda was an excellent communicator ahead her arrival so I felt I already knew her before the ring on the doorbell. Most reassuring for Hosts to know a little about who is coming to stay. Should you, as a Host, receive a Reservation Request from Amanda, do accept it with alacrity. I promise that you will be as pleased as we were to meet and to host her. It is a privilege for me – a Host of some 25 yrs standing - to recommend her to you. She has been, nay is The Perfect Guest. Amanda – am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us – do come back to London again one day, there is so much more for you to see, to enjoy!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Terry, for your generous comments and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. However, the pleasure of having you here was all mine [Ozzy’s too!]. It was a delight to meet, get to know you and I am exhausted just thinking about how hard you worked to see all the major sights in London within such a short stay. I think you may have missed a couple or 7 so do, please come back again – for you, our door is always open.. Thank you for leaving your rooms in such immaculate condition – stripping the linen, bagging up rubbish and so on. Few guests do this – very much appreciated. It is a privilege for me to recommend Terry to all Hosts. She is bright of eye, charming, excellent communicator, considerate and caring too. Should you receive an enquiry from her to stay, please accept it without hesitation – you will not be disappointed as she is just The Perfect Guest. We wish her all the very best and do hope to see her in London again one day. Trish, Kim and Ozzy

Excellent !!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great spot. A flat-in-a-flat that is just perfect for one person.

The most well-appointed rental I have ever stayed in. Hosts put great care into ensuring your comfort and act generously as a resource for city touring -- wish I had had more time to visit with them!!!

Easy walk to West Kensington station, and I never felt unsafe walking back late at night. Neighborhood is super quiet - always welcome after a big day of tromping about the city.

Bed was cozy with lovely bedding. Storage was generous. Everything worked as advertised. Cannot compliment Trish and Kim enough on their hospitality - warm and welcoming, and yet the space is private. They really go out of their way to make it right. Garden is inviting. Cat, adorable. I mean... there's even fresh fruit!!

Two things I would point out: While the space itself is clear of smoke, there is a smoker in the house. This is an absolute non-issue in your living space as long as you keep your door closed - plus an air purifier is in action. Also, note that (as advertised) there is no stand-up shower. Lovely for me, because it is all about the bath. Not a negative at all, just something to know.

Really a fantastic find and I highly recommend. If I am ever lucky enough to get back to London, this would be first pick!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Joanna, for choosing to come and stay with us – Our Very Good Luck, not yours! It was such a great pleasure to meet and get to know you and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay here, felt safe in the area and, yes, it is wonderfully quiet here even though downtown London is close by. I was impressed at the number of sights you visited but London is such a vast city you might just have missed a couple or 5 so DO come back and stay again one day – our door is open! Thank you for leaving your quarters in such excellent condition – not all guests show similar consideration. Much appreciated. It is a privilege for me to recommend Joanna to all Hosts. Should any of you receive an enquiry from her, accept it with alacrity, without question. I promise you will be as delighted as we have been to host Joanna as she is the perfect Guest. We wish her all the very best. Trish, Kim and Ozzy.

I recommend!

Little flat that is perfect for one person! It is close to the District line (green), so quite convenient to travel around London. Trish was very nice and provided the fridge with a bit a food before I arrived. Because of work schedule and weather, I couldn't enjoy the terrasse/garden, but it looked lovely. Quiet and cosy, I recommend!

Owner's Response: Daphne came to stay with us whilst she was working in London for 3 weeks. Charming, bright of eye, it was such a pleasure to meet her, to chat with her. She left her rooms here in immaculate condition even stripping the bedding before she left – certainly not a House Rule but much appreciated and an illustration of the care and respect she paid to her quarters. It is a privilege for me to recommend Daphne to all Hosts. Should you receive a request from her to stay, do accept it without hesitation. We hope very much that she will come and stay with us again one day soon.

In London on Business?

We are 3 minutes walk from the Olympia Exhibition Centre;

As I run my own interior design practice from our home, feel free to ask for the printing of documents, borrow stationery, use the scanner etc. Need to hire a venue for business meetings? Do ask and we will do what we can to help.

TOURISTY THINGS TO DO FROM 33 Matheson Road

Visit Kensington, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, the wonderful museums at South Kensington, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly, Theatreland, St Paul's and the City of London - far too many places to mention and all just minutes away by tube or by bus.

A River Trip

Greenwich is fantastic to visit. Lots to see there. On a sunny day it’s a blissful day out.

It is one of the Unesco Heritage sites and you will see London from the river which is wonderful to do. You can see The ‘Cutty Sark’ there too, the famous tea clipper. The Royal observatory etc.

http://www.visitgreenwich.org.uk/ http://www.rmg.co.uk/cuttysark

Boats go from Embankment Pier (Embankment tube station) which is on the District line from West Kensingtron, change at Earl’s Court, . You can get to Greenwich by Tube and DLR as well, of course. http://www.thamesclippers.com/route-time-table/book-now

ROYAL BUILDINGS

Hampton Court

A ‘Must see’. Residence of King Henry VIII [and certain of his ‘living’ wives ...] . I suggest you take the train there [details on website I believe] and, if you have time, the river boat back.

http://www.hrp.org.uk/HamptonCourtPalace/

Windsor, and the Royal Castle

Also very good to see. Outside London - a day trip - you will need to take a train but it is generally in the direction of Heathrow Airport so not far to travel. Travel info on website.

https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/visit/windsorcastle

A rare event is at Buckingham Palace – viewing the State Rooms. it is wonderful. We are trying to make time to go there once again ourselves this year!

https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/visit/the-state-rooms-buckingham-palace?_$ja=tsid;5255|cid;97683788|agid;3943099748|tid;kwd-1281908235|crid;89406345308|nw;g|rnd;12718928698922980077|dvc;c|adp;1t1&rmsrc=1

An unusual one ...... The Roof Gardens

99 Kensington High Street. An unusual place to go on a sunny day is the secret garden on top of what used to be a large department store on Kensington High St. There is a fully planted garden, great views, good restaurant for coffee etc. In the summer, it has flamingos wandering about. No, that is not a typo. Buses from Olympia Exhibition Centre [No 28, 9 and 10] or a 10/15 minute walk.

http://www.virginlimitededition.com/en/the-roof-gardens

Theatres ... what’s good to see; best I can do is to send you a link to what is on in London’s theatreland. https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/

This is the link specifically to musicals.

http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/londontheatre/whatson/musicals.htm

I recommend: The Book of Mormon; Kinky Boots; The Lion King; Mamma Mia!; Wicked - and many more!

Eating out

How about “Sticky Fingers” on Kensington High Street? OK, so you might come from the Land of the Burger, but this is such fun to visit as it is owned by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones [your Parents may know who they were, if you don’t!], and so is decorated with acres of their memorabilia – and it serves good burgers too! http://www.stickyfingers.co.uk/undefined

Another restaurant I can recommend in Kensington is found on Kensington Church Street. Owned by a very good friend of ours, Ffiona [with 2 ‘f’s]. If you would like to go, let me know so I can give her a call in advance to let you know you are coming so that she can give you the worst .. oops .. best seat in the restaurant and keep an eye on you. She is a delight, totally potty, I have known her for 20 or so years and she serves the best of British home cooking. http://www.ffionas.com/

.... and SHOPPING!

Harrods, Selfridges ...... Bond Street if you want the big names. Oxford Street generally if you want value and Primark if you want it so cheap you can wear it once and throw it away!

The 'largest in Europe' mall is: Westfield Shopping Centre http://uk.westfield.com/london/

From Olympia underground station it is two stops on to Shepherd’s Bush - 8 mins. When you come out at SB, you will be confronted by the enormous shopping mall of Westfield. So it is really very easy to carry back oodles of carrier bags 

DO please ask if there is anything else we can recommend, help you with ...

Best, Trish (and Kim)
