La Bruguera de Púbol is our impressive sustainable estate, in the Catalan countryside. It is the former residence of the Catalan artist Casademont "Le Vieux" and his family, consisting of 3 hectares of forest, a large villa, a pavilion with artwork, and a saltwater pool, located in the beautiful countryside of Baix Empordà.
La Bruguera de Púbol consists of 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, distributed over 3 floors. It was built at the beginning of the 1980s, as a place for reflection, family enjoyment and creativity. Casademont "Le Vieux", painted his paintings of Catalan landscapes, here, for 3 decades, and was inspired by the modernist buildings of Le Corbusier, the famous Swiss architect. The architectural result is a unique combination of discarded modernist features, such as exposed concrete columns, huge corner windows and floor-to-ceiling windows, with the softest features of historic Mediterranean architecture, such as terracotta tiles, ocher colours and a 10m pool with mosaic tiles.
The Casademonts loved giving themselves small buildings on important family dates: visit, and you can walk the forest paths and discover a Gaudí-style fountain, an old Spanish telephone booth and several other interesting structures around the forest.
The property also has a large yoga studio / event space, converted from the old art gallery on the site, and a converted apartment / loft space, which may be available at an additional cost as well.
El Taller, the separate apartment on the site, has two bedrooms, its own parking, entrance, kitchen, living room, washer / dryer and wifi, and is available for an additional charge.
Mike and Michelle, the owners/hosts, live on the estate, in another part of the forest garden. Our presence on-site as hosts has had many positive effects, such as our being available to give advice on the best beaches and coolest things for kids to do, booking restaurants and taxis for guests, supplying an egg and baking trays for last minute birthday cake baking, to more urgent things such as pointing out pharmacies open on Sundays.
