HISTORICAL TRACES Supetar’s history dates back to the ancient times of Roman emperors of which testimony are the remains of the early Christian mosaics located close to the Parish Church (6th century) and close to the villa rustica (6th century) on the cape of St. Nicholas, by the beach of “Banj”. Over its history Supetar developed as the port of Nerežišca – the historical island’s metropolis. The name Supetar was first mentioned in 1423 and it gained its current urban characteristics during the 17th and 18th centuries when was inhabited by numerous peoples from Donji Humac. It has Town Status since 1997. ST. MARY OF THE ANNUNCIATION PARISH CHURCH It was built in 1604 on the foundations of the former basilica.
