Quiet 3 bedroom semi detached house with terraces and garden

The accommodation, over three floors, comprises 3 bedrooms, kitchen diner, sitting room, bathroom, utility room, 2 outside terraces and garden. All rooms have views across the valley.

The large master bedroom on the top floor has traditional wooden beams, a king size bed, vanity basin and French doors leading onto a balcony. The sitting room, on the top floor, is a comfortable beamed room with the original fireplace, a log burning stove, sofa bed, chairs and DVD player. French doors lead onto a Juliet balcony.

Bedroom 2 on the lower ground floor has twin beds and a vanity basin. Also on the lower ground floor is a utility room with washing machine.

Bedroom 3 is a small beamed room with bunk beds. The kitchen diner on the ground floor is a large room with beams and a well equipped modern kitchen, ceramic hob, electric oven, fridge freezer and large dining table seating up to 8. French doors lead out onto a large terrace with table and chairs. BBQ's are available for guests.

In Boltaña there are several bars, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy, banks, bakery (which still uses a traditional wood oven), butcher, a very helpful tourist information centre, post office and library with Wi-Fi. The river Ara running through the valley has a popular swimming area. On the outskirts of the village is the Monasterio, a five star hotel with restaurant and spa facilities available to non hotel residents.

The medieval village of Ainsa, 5 miles away, has many more restaurants and shops as well as the old village and castle to explore.

The bodegas of the local Somontano wines offer tours and tasting.

Boltaña is centrally located to the beautiful Ordesa National Park including Canyon of Añisclo and the natural park of Sierra Guara and is the perfect base for walking or mountain biking.

Why Nigel & Caroline Kaines chose Boltaña

After spending a weeks holiday touring the Pyrenees in February, we decided to buy a house in the mountains, a contrast to East Anglia where we live, and after many properties later we found La Casita. Though liveable in we decided it needed a bit of modernisation and reorganisation of rooms which included creating a kitchen diner from 2 bedrooms and building a terrace leading from this room.

Having spent many holidays renovating the house to a comfortable holiday level we are now renting it out so that others can enjoy Boltana and the area.

What makes this house unique

At the end of a no through lane the house is in a very quiet location but within Boltana and walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops. We love sitting on the terraces looking out on the valley below, the sheep and goats in the fields, the birds and wildlife. It is very peaceful.

Boltana is less than one hour from Jaca and Huesca using the new road which now makes Zaragoza the closest airport to get to Boltana.

Last week we felt like a real Spanish family living in La Casita, our typical well equipped holiday house in Boltaña. It was easy to find the Spanish rhythm, especially in the evening, sitting on our lovely balcony enjoying the view and cattle. In our opinion La Casita is perfectly situated to visit the National Park of Ordesa and the Park of Guara. We adore the rough landscape of the last one. Thanks to the Kaines family to let us take part of your little paradise in Spain.

Our 3 children will remember the river the most and their canyoning walk adventure.

Character house in a lovely part of the Pyrenees

A well renovated older style house with a pleasant terrace for sitting out, in a quiet hill top town. Several popular river swimming spots are nearby and canyonning and white water rafting are available. The house is also ideally located to reach all points of the Ordesa National Park, with superb walks and views.

Still Stunning

We have been to the house before and in the last review we said don't tell anybody as we wanted to go again. We told our friends and they asked to come with us to stay at La Casita. I am really pleased to say that they were not disappointed as the house again was exactly as we had described and fully equipped. They loved the house, the village and the area and as a result we had yet another fabulous week at La Casita. They weather was exceptional as well being very warm and we had a thunderstorm later in the week you would pay money to see in England. Our friends were truly impressed, with all aspects of the property, the area and wildlife, don't miss out on what is on offer here.

A gem of a holiday home!

I think this was probably the best holiday home we have ever stayed at. The property has been restored a beautiful, traditional way but somehow the facilities provided seem to be the best too. eg 2 big balconies, lots of outdoor furniture, washing machine, oven, big fridge freezer, wall mounted dvd player, lots of spacous rooms (all items you are not sure to get in my experience).

The view from the balconies was lovely. We were treated to a family of goats frequently munching their way past, just below us. Yet the pretty village square was only about 150m away with 3 bars, a restaurant and a shop. More shops and river swimming 10 minutes walk away by main road.

And the nearby scenery up the River Ara, or the River Cinca towards France is simply stunning. Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are delighted that our guests are enjoying La Casita and the central Spanish Pyrenees as much as we do. It was quite nerve wracking waiting for feedback when we started renting out our holiday home, having worked on the house for seven years in all our available holidays to make it as we wanted. We hoped it would meet with other peoples requirements and approval. It is lovely to have our very gentle restoration appreciated by others as we were keen to keep La Casita's lovely rustic character. Also we believe the location of La Casita is second to none, which is why we bought it in the first place.

Fantastic but accessible 'hidden' gem

This carefully renovated property sits at the top of the ancient town of Boltana - a short walk to the shops, cafes and restaurants. The accommodation is comfy and lovely and Boltana is a great place just to be - it has a wonderful fiesta if you get your timings right. There's plenty to see and do. Explore the surrounding area and flora and fauna and enjoy the history of the place. It's great for families - with the lovely river to swim in and plenty of walking - as well as river-based water activities for the more intrepid. Be warned: canyoning is scary and only for the brave...although my eldest niece would do it all over again I'm happy to have done it once and come out alive! White water rafting was more of a family fun time - in my opinion.

Boltana is readily accessible from a number of ports and airports - we took the ferry to Santander and drove but it's only a short hop from Zaragoza airport. It really is a fantastic but accessible 'hidden' gem.

Séjour reposant et enrichissant à la Casita.

Petite maison où on s' y sent bien. Décorée simplement mais avec goût, très propre et où tout le nécessaire est à sa disposition.

C'est tellement agréable d'y revenir après la découverte époustouflante de la région. ( paysage, village, marches, mets délicieux )

L' accueil y est chaleureux .

La Casita is a charming 3 bedroom traditional stone house situated on the edge of the ancient hill village of Boltana. At the end of a quiet lane it has large south-west facing terraces and a garden overlooking fields. Boltana, situated in the central Spanish Pyrenees, is an old village with many narrow streets and little squares to wander through including the ruins of an 11th century castle. Boltana is superbly located for exploring the beautiful Ordesa and Monte Perdido national park and natural parks of Mountains and Canyons of Guara and Posets- Maladeta. The area is perfect for walking, climbing, cycling, swimming in the river, water activities such as rafting, kayak, canoeing as well touring the area and visiting historic towns such as Ainsa, Alquezar, Graus - famous for its sausages and Benasque or tasting the local Somontano wines. The annual August fiesta in Boltana has the traditional music of the Ronda and Palotiau, dancing with sticks as well as many other events including dance bands.
