About the property

Cosy one bedroomed getaway minutes drive from the beautiful North Cornish coast

Mabel's Cottage offers a delightful rural retreat located on the edge of the moors and yet is only a few miles from the beautiful North Cornish coastline. The well known Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle are all close by, along with the beautiful beach at Trebarwith Strand, and wonderful walks such as the Camel trail and St Necten's Glen to name but a few!

Climb the Tor, meet the local sheep, cows, chickens and ponies, listen to the birdsong. We have swallows nesting in the summer and the famous starling murmurations fly overhead twice a day from late September until early spring. A real sight to behold!

We welcome one well behaved small to medium sized dog, so with access to the moors and our own field to play in, your pet can enjoy your holiday too!

Why John and Wendy chose Advent

From the minute we saw this 150 year old converted barn we fell in love with it. We really do have the best of both worlds.. from the stunning views over Roughtor, lake and moorland, to the close proximity of the rugged north Cornish coastline with its quaint fishing villages and wonderful surfing beaches.

If it is a peaceful and quiet retreat you are looking for then Mabel's Cottage is the place to be.

We love it here and hope you will too.

What a Gem !!

  • 5 of 5

This comfy warm detached barn conversion is a little gem and worth more than 5 stars , It is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the busy places yet conveniently placed as a fantastic base to explore the rugged North Cornwall coast and its famous beaches.

From your cosy seating in the conservatory with Tv, Your view is amazing and looking out onto outstanding scenery overlooking the lake towards the Tor and fields surrounded by sheep. Put some bird nuts out and an abundance of wildlife appear as if waiting in the hedgerows, At night the stars are amazing. Our small dog Basil loved the freedom of the large garden, and for the out of season couple, It has an excellent heating system for all year round use as a get away to recharge your batteries, the bed is extremely comfy , the bathroom and shower is top notch, Kitchen well appointed not that we used much bar having breakfast as we treated ourselves to the local various eateries in the nearby villages and towns. We found the owners John and Wendy to be extremely accommodating, lovely and friendly people, who respect your privacy and made us feel very welcome.

In a nutshell I would highly recommend Tor view whole heartedly and we will be returning without doubt as the standard of accommodation, location, peacefulness and views are fabulous…..

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Andy and Alison, what a nice review to have received, it was equally nice to have met you both and indeed Basil and that you enjoyed your stay here. The flowers you gave was a nice gesture, and as for the cakes you left......I didn't really tell Wendy as I ate them before she found out LOL!! We hope that all goes well with your Daughter Katie and indeed the birth of your granddaughter, please keep in touch and let us know. look forward to seeing you all again in the future. A nice little cottage, clean and bright. Stunning views.

  • 4 of 5

John and Wendy were very welcoming, provided gluten free biscuits and Cornish fare to welcome us. The bed is very comfortable. We were not really prepared for how rural it was,3 miles down very narrow windy lanes to the nearest shops etc. It would have been helpful to have had freezer faculties to store a small amount of food, and a file to show us how to use the cooker and switch on heating etc.I think that probably it would have been easier if the weather had not been dreadful..massive storms on Thursday meant that we couldn’t really hear the tv for the rain against the roof of the conservatory, and it became quite cold.In fine weather it was beautiful to sit there looking at the amazing view, and relaxing.

Would encourage people to find the Old Inn at St Breward for good food and lovely people..quite remote though! It will be worth returning in better weather to reassess.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely little cottage right on the edge of the moor with stunning views from the living room to Roughtor (which is well worth the climb!). The location on Bodmin is great for walking and exploring the surrounding towns and villages. The cottage itself is delightful, with great facilities including outside seating and a barbecue should you need it (the weather failed us!! :D). There was a rather delicious cream tea left out for us and all in all we had a really comfortable stay. Many thanks and we'll have to visit again in the sunshine!

A great little place to stay and relax. Outstanding view & well presented throughout.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is well situated to explore the North Cornwall coast and enjoys a great view across the water to Bodmin Moor beyond. With the right weather this can really appreciated from the well kept and equipped garden. Looks can be deceptive as the cottage does feel spacious once inside. It is obvious that John & Wendy take great pride in this property as everything is to the highest standard and tastefully finished. Special mention must be made of their efforts to present the property at its best. Everything is spotlessly clean and shining. They are great hosts being friendly and helpful whilst remaining unobtrusive. Parking is immediately adjacent which always helps. We would certainly be more than happy to stay again when we are next visiting the area.

Beautiful cottage with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a very comfortable, peaceful break at Mabel’s Cottage. The interior is tastefully designed with high quality fixtures and fittings and a very comfy sofa which takes full advantage of the views.

We particularly loved the outside space which has the perfect spot overlooking the Tor and reservoir for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, glass of wine in fact almost any holiday activity I can think of!

There is also a large enclosed field which was thoroughly enjoyed and explored by our dog.

We found the property well located for walking and managed some spectacular walks including Rough Tor and Brown Willy, Tintagel Castle and parts of the Coast Path all of which afforded amazing views.

It was a pleasure to meet John and Wendy who were excellent hosts and made us feel extremely welcome.

We definitely hope to return.
