About Fran Rosenthal
Hello! I'm Fran. I'm 65, active, love gardening and raising ducks and chickens– also reading, walking, hiking, traveling and hard cider tasting. I'm currently a substitute teacher (K-12) in Eugene and Springfield. Prior to this, I worked for 22 years in environmental education. I was the Education Manager at 209 acre Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, just outside of Eugene. I enjoy meeting new people, especially from other lands. I've traveled to East Africa, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Belize, Israel, Iceland and a bit of mainland Europe. Having met so many wonderful, gracious people in my travels, I'd like nothing more than to make you feel welcome and comfortable during your stay in Eugene.

A Comfortable Stay
The Duck Den served my needs very well as I attended a conference at the University. The setting was quiet and peaceful. The ducks and chickens were a very nice diversion. Not noisy in the early morning. The furnishings were 'real', and comfortable, not IKEA trendy.
Fran was welcoming and just attentive enough.
Ducks in Eugene...no really... the real kind
My husband and I needed a long term rental as we were looking for our next home. Because of that need, we were interested in having enough space to spread out a bit, make our own meals and creating our home away from home. The Duck Den fit all our needs and with the antics of the real Eugene duck, we had built in entertainment. The views of the westward mountains were nice too.
Fran, our host, was welcoming and it was important to her that we were comfortable. She shared her fruit bounty from the numerous trees on her property and even brought us fresh squeezed apple cider! We appreciated our stay and we are sure you will too.
Homey and quiet
The Duck Den was a perfect place for myself, a friend and his daughter. We were all enchanted by the ducks and their antics! It is very private and the back yard is a very soothing mix of garden and grass with the duck coop just a few yards away. They made no disturbing noise though but added to the experience. The place has all the needs for accommodation and Fran has really outfitted the kitchen for everything one needs. A market 5 minutes away made it especially convenient.
Fran is very friendly and helpful with information and anything we needed. She keeps the lodgings tidy and clean which are very important to me.
My only negatives are not enough TV channels like sports and news and having one of the sofas be a pull out bed would serve better than the air mattress on the floor as a 3rd accommodation. Even at that, 3 singles like we were is a bit difficult logistically. Barring those relatively minor concerns I would definitely return and highly recommend staying at "The Duck Den".
