INTERNET and CELL PHONES: due to the mountainous region and our unique and heavily forested location, we haven't been able to access any satellite signals at this time. Cell phones in Yosemite have very spotty reception, if any at all, except for the Yosemite Valley area -- a cell signal booster we just installed may provide limited connectivity (mostly for Verizon) but consider yourself ** disconnected ** while you are staying at this property.

*** Guests must be able to climb several flights of stairs to access the 2 units in this property.

*** WINTER Season and TIRE CHAINS ***

Tire chains may be required by the park during the winter months. Call us for more details.

*** TIOGA PASS (Hwy 120) closes early each winter due to snow - please check before planning your traveling route.

For more information about our accommodations, availability, rates, policies, guest comments, photo album, links and more, please visit our website.

*** OUR GUESTS: Our vacation home has been enjoyed by couples on their honeymoon, many anniversaries, several 'I'll be asking her hand' events, and many book lovers, romantic stargazers, painters and photographers.

*** Activities in the park are many: fishing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, birdwatching and much more. More active folks can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, river rafting, and horseback riding to name a few.

*** This is a place away from the crowded Yosemite Valley floor, a place for evening relaxation: sit back and enjoy the wind whispering through the cedars, pines and dogwoods; stargazers can marvel at the clear night skies with millions of stars while listening to the sounds of the forest from the large decks!

Yosemite offers world-famous vistas and a variety of activities for everyone, year around - A few examples of the many organized activities offered are: free art classes (watercolor, sketching & drawing, etc.), morning photography walks, a Valley Birdwalk, and special programs designed for families and children.

*** Enjoy Yosemite's beauty and the conveniences offered by a vacation house inside the park ... you won't leave disappointed!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to thank you so much for the incredible adventure we had and for the fantastic sunset house as our "base camp" in Yosemite.

We just had the most incredible time!

We will DEFINITELY be back! I will send you some pictures when I get time, we saw an incredible deer right outside the house one morning eating the grass!! You must add it to the site!

We also saw a coyote in Yosemite West. We loved the house and for a family it was great. Thanks so much and you'll hear from us again!

The Sunset house is perfect to visit Yosemite instead

of being in a hotel. The house is perfectly equipped

with evetything you could need, it is very clean and

comfortable. It is also in a very convenient location to

visit the valley and the south part of the park. The park

is awesome, we would love to go back again.

A great and relaxing place fairly close to Yosemite Valley, perfect for watching sunsets

  • 5 of 5

We spent five nights in Yosemite National Park, and it was made perfect with our stay in the Sunset House. If you are not interested in staying in the Yosemite Valley, this is a very convenient and relaxing place nearby. As long as you are prepared to bring your own groceries and tune out with fairly limited cell phone/internet coverage, this is a great place to finish a day of hiking or sightseeing within the park. We had Verizon, so we could get some limited coverage, which was great, as it was just enough to keep connected with the outside world, but not so much that we spent the entire time looking at our smartphones. Instead, we passed the time making meals, relaxing on the patio, and watching beautiful sunsets. One night my wife asked me to pull over so she could take a picture of the charismatic "Speeding kills bears" road sign just about a mile before the Yosemite West turn off, when wouldn't you believe it, a real bear ran across the highway. So, this is definitely in a remote and wild area.

100% Satisfied, Excellent all around

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed at Yosemite Sunset House for 3 nights on a week-long California National Park tour. This was by far our favorite accommodation. I didn't even realize there were houses to rent inside YNP until I started looking for alternate lodging because Yosemite Lodge and Majestic were sold out.

The reservation process, payments, and pre-departure communication were all prompt and clear. Upon arrival we found a lovely welcome gift with wine and snacks as the other reviewers have noted. The pictures don't do the house justice, the kitchen and bathrooms were fresh and new and had everything we needed. There were so many extra kitchen towels, bath towels, pillows, supplies, etc. that we didn't even need but it was nice to know they were there.

The location was perfect for our needs, it took about 25 minutes to drive to the valley, which included a few scenic stops. This was plenty of time to arrive early in the parking lots to beat the rest of the crowds before beginning our hikes. Going 'home' to Sunset House each night was heaven: We were able to spread out, relax, cook dinner and enjoy it on the deck each evening. 3 days was not nearly enough.

The house is well situated to other areas outside the Valley. We took a leisurely drive to Wawona one evening, and did a hike and another drive to Glacier Point. We purchased a large cooler when arriving and stocked up on groceries before heading in, which worked out perfectly. There is a small cooler, perfect for packing lunches in the kitchen.

The neighborhood is perfect: quiet, peaceful and very scenic. I'd return in a heartbeat and stay for at least a week!

Best rental we have ever had

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 nights at this property as part of a three week trip to California travelling from the U.K. Without a doubt this was the best rental we have ever booked, not just on this trip but on other USA trips in previous years.

The property is superb, located in a lovely quiet area of the park yet convenient to iconic walks such as Taft Point and Glacier Point while only being about a twenty to thirty minute drive to the valley floor.

We were thrilled to have such a wonderful spacious deck area for barbecuing, eating, relaxing and star gazing from. The rental is spacious, immaculately clean, well furnished and exceptionally well equipped.

A real home from home, we had absolutely everything we needed. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for self catering with thoughtful touches such as an ice box, tea, coffee, olive oil, sauces, condiments etc.

The rental comes with games, guide books and DVDs, additionally we were sent very useful information with regard to Yosemite, trails, eating out etc. a couple of weeks prior to arrival and the 'welcome pack' on arrival was a lovely touch.

My only regret is that we hadn't booked a longer stay, there is so much to do and see and this property makes a delightful home from home from which to do so.

The owners work hard for their many 5* reviews which are entirely justified. We will return and have no hesitation in recommending.

Certainly above all expectation. Wished we had longer.

We arrived in the dark due to the disaster that is SF car hire!

We were nervous arriving due to the warnings but had no problem finding the property.Driving was horrible however. Would not recommend.

House was spotless and welcoming. Settled in immediately, had late supper and slept like babies.

Our two girls were delighted to have their own beds after ten days of sharing.

Kitchen was great, there was nothing extra we needed.

Suggestions:- some info on local hikes. Feather pillows

Thank-you, wish we lived nearer so could return.
