Villa with fabulous views, but cold and remote in location
The photos of the villa, whilst accurate in their content, make the villa seem a lot lighter and brighter than it actually is. Admittedly the weather was not that hot during our stay, but the temperatures were easily 5 degrees colder at the villa location than at the coast. The villa was very cold inside and we declined to use the heating as we did not want to pay extra and also felt it would be very difficult to adequately heat such a large open plan area. The rooms were fine for four of us plus baby, but the wooden bedroom floors and stairs were very creaky! The villa is extremely remote - the windy road up the mountain from the autostrada turnoff takes a good 15 minutes. The views are undeniably awesome towards Taormina and across to the mainland but a car is a definite must. The local representative was helpful but lived almost an hour away. Etna erupted whilst we were staying at the villa! There was no danger to us but everything ended up covered in a fine layer of volcanic ash. The local pizzeria was very pleasant for an evening meal or a takeaway but there is really nothing else close by.
ciao Ros, thanks for your review, we always are happy to receive reviews to improve our performances and the properties that we manage.
I have to say though, that you gave 3 stars to the property without the property being to blame!
Still I really did not understand why you gave a mediocre assessment to the villa. The weather was cold this year in Sicily until the first days of June, but we have no fault for this, and the heating that you declined to use, would have had at the end of the stay a cost of max 30 euros. usually, the fact that the place where the villa is located is 5 degrees less than the coast, is the main reason why it is chosen by travelers.
Anyway, as told before, we always are happy to receive feedbacks from the guests, and we will try to improve all the negative aspects.
Arrivederci in Sicilia!
Didn't live up to expectations
This home is a good spot for people who want to get away from it all. Situated up in the hills, it's pretty remote from places like Taormina, Catania and Siracusa--all tourist destinations. The walls are stone and all the floors tiled. Because the weather was unusually cold for the time of year, we had to turn the heat on a lot which, unfortunately, resulted in our having to pay a lot of money energy (which we agreed to have deducted from our security deposit). Also, this home is advertised as a three-bedroom house but the first-floor bedroom is very small and contains a double bed and a very small twin bed. This would be okay for children but not for adults. The two second-floor bedrooms were very nice but older people and anyone with knee problems, might find the stairs difficult to navigate. There was no coffee maker (other than the type you use on top of the stove) and the oven didn't work. More bath towels would have been welcomed by our group. The property manager was lovely and did her best to accommodate us, making dinner reservations, recommending shopping areas, etc. We might stay there again if we visited during the summer, but we were less than thrilled with this rental.
Wonderfull place on foot of Etna
It was a wonderful experience
Presa is a village located between Etna park and Taormina. It’s renowned to have the greatest panorama in Sicily, from where one can extend his glance to Taormina, the Italian mainland and almost all the eastern slope of Ionian sea !
This is the reason why many people from all over the world have purchased villas in this exclusive and green area.
The house is located at 1 km from the center of the village, were we can gind: a church, a little market, a pizzeria-restaurant and a square where, during the summertime, take places several festivals: the maccherunata, a sort of party of tne maccheroni pasta, and the salsicciata with local sausage, are the most acclaimed and take places more than once.
You won’t forget this genuine atmosphere of Presa (and the maccheroni, of course).
From Presa you can reach the Etna park in less than 10 km’s.
The biggest town close to Presa is Piedimonte Etnao, that is 5 km’s away.
The beach of Fondachello is at 15 km’s
Tormina, the pearl of Sicily, is 20 km’s away and Giardini Naxos, with its marvellous sandy beaches and promenade, less than 15.
A good fish market is in Riposto, at 20 km’s.
You are in the land of ice crams and granite: have the latter for breakfast (with brioche).
Pasta? Uhmmm ... let me think …: Norma, Vongole, Nero di Seppia, Sarde!
Some other food tip ? Here it is: Arancino, Cipollina, Sicilian salade (tomato, onion, black olives, ricotta salata), involtini alla messinese, swordfish alla griglia.
A good tip is to visit of the biggest chestnut in the world, in Sant’Alfio (10 km’s).
