This is a great 'base camp' from which you can take easy day trips to some of the best Tennessee has to offer: 55 minutes to Chattanooga's Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls and other attractions; 60 minutes to Jack Daniel and George Dickel distillery tours or to Fall Creek Falls State Park (highest waterfall in the eastern U.S.); 90 minutes to Huntsville (AL)'s U.S. Space and Rocket Center or Nashville's Music Row, or 2 hours to white water rafting on the Ocoee or Hiwassee Rivers. All the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains without all the crowds! *** NOTE: Peak fall colors are generally in the first week of November, sometimes last week of October! ***

About Deb Dreves
We had this picturesque cabin built in 2001 so our kids could grow up loving the outdoors. We like this area so much, we've now bought another home nearby, and now we're sharing our original "getaway paradise" with anyone who loves the out-of-doors and Tennessee!
Deb Dreves purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Deb Dreves chose Altamont
The cabin is secluded, but has this marvelous view of the Elk River Valley. It's a special place to make memories for you and your family. We've had many family reunions here, and members of our families still talk about them, years later, because this is such a special and memorable venue.
What makes this Cabin unique
There are many homes and cabins in the area advertising a "bluff view," but many have views that are largely overgrown or obstructed. The Green Beam Cabin is located atop one of the taller bluffs in the area, so even mature trees are below you as you gaze out from our "perch in the sky"! Plus, many rental cabins in the area are within earshot of Interstate 24, which isn't conducive for total peace and tranquility. At the Green Beam Cabin, you never hear I-24, and only rarely hear any kind of motorized vehicle. It's such a rare treat these days to sit on a porch -- anywhere, much less with a view like ours -- and not hear any sounds of civilization. The Green Beam truly defines the phrase "get away from it all," yet is only a 20 minute drive from the interstate, and 30 minutes or less from restaurants, groceries, and all that "civilization" in nearby Monteagle. At the same time, you're less than 15 minutes from some of the most amazing hiking, waterfalls and other overlooks in Tennessee's largest state park, South Cumberland. We know we sound like a commercial, but these are all the reasons we chose to build this cabin in this special place, and after you spend some time here, we think you'll agree!

Well Hidden Gem
Rented this cabin/house for the weekend to visit Short Mountain Distillery and then cap it off with a concert at the Pelham Cavern where they film Bluegrass Underground for PBS. I very easily could have spent the entire time on the porch overlooking the valley. The pictures do this place little justice. Extremely secluded, and peaceful. The cabin far exceeded my expectations. The people I traveled with marvelled at it's beauty. Has everything. If you have little ones you will definitely want to keep an eye on them.We are already trying to figure out what we are going to do so we can come back. Thanks Deb! Awesome place.
Beautiful cabin close to The Caverns
Two couples stayed here to be close to The Caverns where we were attending a concert. The cabin was beautiful, clean and all in working order. The view from the deck was breathtaking. Comfortable beds, hot shower and 15 minutes to the caverns. We would stay here again.
Our family loved this cabin! Very clean and peaceful get away. The view is breathtaking! Our teenagers Actually put away their phones and wanted to explore and enjoy the area.
Pictures were carefully taken to make the property look WAY better than it was.
Pictures and cabin manual were very misleading. The “last” full service grocery store was actually a gas station that had no groceries other than an onion and two potatoes. The cabin is definitely NOT kid friendly (several dangerous scenarios), and I’m talking about the inside of the cabin. Might want to bring your own toilet paper and dry firewood. Cabin was completely infested with ladybugs and had multiple broken windows. This property should be removed from the HomeAway site. Way, way, WAY too expensive for what you get. Would have been happier in a tent.
We were saddened to receive this review. We work hard to keep the Green Beam cabin in good shape, and as you can see from all of the other reviews, the vast majority of our guests are very pleased with the accommodations. Yes, we did have an unusually bad storm that damaged several windows in the cabin, for which we immediately ordered replacements, and did disclose to our guests (in their confirmation email) the fact that they were in the process of being repaired. The largest, a custom-order Pella window in the front loft, has now been completely replaced (it had not been installed at the time of Jimmy H's visit). There are also two small double-pane transom windows that were damaged. Replacement panels are on order from Pella, but they have not yet arrived as of this writing (4/4/19). In the case of both transom windows, only the outer pane cracked; inner panes are intact, so nothing will come through the windows. One of them is in the rear upstairs bedroom; the other is over the kitchen sink. Pella assures us the replacements will be installed as soon as they arrive. As for Jimmy's other concerns, there was plenty of toilet paper in the house, and the firewood is kept under a tarp, with an additional stack on the covered porch. In the property listing, as well as in the "cabin manual" that we send to all our guests prior to their arrival, we feel we've done a good job of explaining every aspect of the cabin, and how to get the most enjoyment out of their visit. And yes, being a cabin in the woods, occasionally we do get some ladybugs, which are harmless, but hardly an "infestation". The cabin is thoroughly cleaned before and after every guest visit. Please take into consideration ALL of our guest reviews. Our cabin is a wonderful, quiet and beautiful place to get away, and to enjoy nature! Thanks for reading.
Beautiful views and sounds with the waterfall nearby. Cabin provided the perfect get-away opportunity and was only 1 1/2 hours from Huntsville.
We loved our stay at the Green Beam Cabin! The Cabin is beautiful - with all the comforts of home! Love the lighting elements inside too! The view outside is absolutely breathtaking! You can hear the creek/falls from the deck, very relaxing & the sunrise and sunset are amazing from this vantage point - Our experience was wonderful - Thank you!
Breathtaking panoramic view of Tennessee's Elk River Valley, 1100 feet below, from the top of the Cumberland Plateau @ 2000 ft above sea level. Always 6-8 degrees cooler up here than in nearby cities! Large waterfall just 400 feet from wraparound porch; listen to the waterfall as you dine on the deck! Enjoy a peaceful morning walk along the bluff trail, across the footbridge to another great vista at Roth Point. 10 minutes to groceries, gas and other essentials; 15 minutes to the 30,000-acre South Cumberland State Park (waterfalls, vistas, hiking, backpacking, camping); 40 minutes to Sewanee and the University of the South. Great 'base camp' from which you can take easy day trips to some of the best Tennessee has to offer: 50 minutes to Chattanooga's Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls and other attractions; 60 minutes to Jack Daniel and George Dickel distillery tours or to Fall Creek Falls State Park (tallest waterfall in the eastern U.S.); 90 minutes to Huntsville (AL)'s U.S. Space and Rocket Center or Nashville's Music Row, or 2 hours to white water rafting on the Ocoee River.
