Apartment NOT as advertised
Arriving in the flat we had rented recently for two weeks was a major disappointment. It had been presented as a 2 bedroom flat with bedroom #2 having a fold out sofa bed.
What we found instead was a very crowded bedroom #2 looking much more like a storage unit than a bedroom, as it contained a full-size crib, a high chair, a stroller and lots of boxes, baskets and other things...and on the floor a blow-up single air mattress.
We had explained well in advance we would need 2 sets of keys as my husband and I had different agendas during our stay. Only one set was available.
There was tape to close all of the cupboards and drawers in the bedrooms, save one narrow hanging cupboard in bedroom 1 with 8 flimsy wire hangers (for two adults with reasonable clothes for a two week stay in London), and 2 emptied drawers, one of which was inaccessible as the crib had been pushed up against it!
The descriptive photos of the living room/dining room in the brochure showed an attractive sofa and dining table.
Both the sofa and dining room table were draped in sheets to cover them. Thus there was literally no ambiance in that room at all.
Although the kitchen was quite adequately stocked, there were no ice cubes, nor an ice cube tray to make any.
The agency VEEVE did what they could to try to correct the problems...bringing us some somewhat sturdier plastic hangers, getting us a second set of keys, moving the crib from being up against the one drawer in that bedroom and helping us clear an extra drawer in bedroom #1.
They were, however, obviously unable to do anything to replace the blow-up air mattress my 80 year old husband slept on for two weeks.
VEEVE was also extremely helpful in going to the flat not once, but twice, to retrieve some items we had inadvertently left behind, and delivering them to a nearby office.
Careful vetting of the flat could have avoided the problems we encountered, and, of course, I am assuming that HomeAway and VEEVE will now make sure to correct the description of the flat for any future clients. They did much to alleviate some of the problems, but the flat was NOT what we were told it was.
