It is the ideal retreat for all those who want to stop running. A place made to measure for those who want to swim in the sea when they want it on any day of the year, for those who want to sunbathe in the small port beach or in the pools of Las Salinas, eat fish and papas arrugadas (boiled potatoes salted) and drink some wine after catching. In the historic center of Agaete there is the Church of La Concepción, located where once stood the hermitage (1515) and the fulcrum of the main streets of the city and the town hall square. Moreover, Agaete has particularly important green areas, which it is impossible not to visit: the Garden of Flowers and the Tamabada Nature Park. The first is a botanical garden located in the historic center of the city, within which are contained innumerable varieties of exotic plant species. It was a meeting and retreat for famous Canarian poets, such as Tomás Morales, Saulo Torón and Alonso Quesada. The Tamabada Nature Park is a protected area, located at the highest point of Agaete (1180 meters) where is the largest pine forest of Gran Canaria. Another lovely appointment is the walk along the Port of Las Nieves from where you can admire the coast of the town hall. Here are the Hermitage and the Triptych of Our Lady of the Nieves, the latter attributed to the Flemish painter of the sixteenth century, Joos Van Cleve. The Port of Las Nieves is also the ideal lougo for those wishing to walk and take a swim in the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean, appreciate the Dedo Dios, a rock formation that rises from the waters of the sea and rediscover the view on the enchanting afternoons , contemplating the majesty of the Teide.
Agaete is one of the municipalities with the highest number of beaches.
The most popular beach is the Playa de Las Nieves. Located, on one side, at the foot of the sports and fishing pier, on the other, to the left of the ancient pier. Mainly, it is a pebble beach, characteristic for the calm waters and for the walk on the sea, where there are restaurants (restaurant, bar La Fabrica) and small shops.
Towards the town hall of La Aldea and at the end of the Barranco de Guayedra, lies the beach of the same name: Playa de Guayedra characterized by black sand. After the Playa de Guayedra are located the Playa de Sotavento, the Playa de Faneroque and that of El Risco, with the same characteristics as the previous one.
Close to the town of Gáldar, there is the Playa del Juncal, a gentle cove, characterized by calm waters and a pebble beach with a mooring area. Following the coastline towards Agaete, there are two other beaches: the Bahía del Turmán or della Caleta and the Playa de las Salinas, both of which are pebbled, open and characterized by a
medium waviness. The commercial area of Agaete is concentrated, above all, in the Port of Las Nieves, since it is the area where there is the greatest number of visitors and tourists, especially during the weekend.
