Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Tain - Polgarrie

Three bedrooms, bath WC, shower WC, two reception rooms, kitchen and study

This unique traditional Scottish stone house (built in1877), and recently modernised with a bright large modern extension is located in Scotland’s popular holiday area of Ross-shire and Sutherland. The modern kitchen is designed for family cooking and is part of an open plan area with the sitting and dining room, which looks out to the magnificent views through a double storey height picture window. There is also a separate cosy traditional Scottish open fire TV lounge/game room. The three bedrooms are comfortable, two of which have Victorian themed furniture. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower /WC downstairs. Internet WiFi free access is available around the house. Lastly, there is a separate study room with extensive views, to provide inspiration for the creative writer or artist. Efficient heating keeps the house warm in all weather. The large garden is ideal for relaxing under the trees in summer or alfresco dining.

The immediate Polgarrie secluded location offers the best highland views of mountain, glen and down to the blue Dornoch Firth. Six golf courses are within a 10 to 20 minute drive, the beach 15 minutes.

Hi Kate,

We had a wonderful time at Polgarrie and were sad to leave. The location is so quiet and peaceful (although the wind does blow!) and we enjoyed visiting the Balblair distillery and hiking and birding in the area. Thanks for the wonderful Scotland experience and we look forward to visiting again somewhere down the road.

Loved our family time in Polgarrie House !

  • 5 of 5

The location of the house is spectacular with stunning views of countryside , hills and many sheep ! A true get away ....no noise during the day or light pollution at night - perfect ! The house itself is comfortable , very warm both in the extension and in the sitting room with its log fire . The owners have provided you with everything you need for your stay . The surrounding area has so much to offer with beautiful beaches , forest / hill walks and little towns with good restaurants . We are a family of 5 ( children 14, 12, 7 ) and we all agreed it was one of our best holidays ever . Im sure our dog was in agreement too ! Do not hesitate to book this lovely house , we will most certainly return .

Great house, great area

  • 4 of 5

The house and its location was lovely, with lots of accessible walks, close to local towns. Weather was good, heating, when needed worked well.

Liked the bright sitting room, and most of what we needed was there. However, it was not possible to open any of the bedroom windows, painted shut, which wasn't great - I like to be able to air my bedroom in the morning.

The kitchen was quite well equipped, but knives were blunt, and there were no chopping boards. Also would have appreciated a few basic dish-washing utensils.

Simply beautiful

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely gorgeous location. Isolated, yet all amenities are within 10 min drive, I.e. pharmacy, hospital and shops.

The house is well maintained, very clean and tidy. There is a big garden at the back of the house - great for BBQs and for children to play.

You can make your stay full of activities, visit local distilleries (there are plenty around and they sell great Scottish whiskey for good price!), go for hikes (you're spoiled with choice) or to Dornoch beach (10 min drive) and plenty more. In the evening, you fire up the fire place, get on wifi or Sky TV or simply read a book and enjoy the magnificent views - just look at the photos! We are definitely coming back next year!

Fantastic Highland Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Polgarrie House is a real gem. The house itself is very spacious and welcoming. The lovey bright open plan living area really makes the most of the beautiful views of the landscape. We really enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. We set off for some beautiful walks from the house. The Struay hill is a definite must. We will definetely be back to this charming property.

Peaceful get-away with easy access

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early afternoon after our flight from London. The house was easy to find, yet located well away from the main road. The house was clean and the kitchen modern. The bedrooms were adequate with bathrooms both up and downstairs. To stretch our legs we walked up the Struie behind the house to observe wonderful views of the Dornoch Firth with the house nestled in the heather and sheep below us. The addition to the house brings in wonderful views up the valley and of the setting sun. We had a small issue with the water pump that was resolved very quickly by the most polite plumber - thanks Rory.

We spent our days horseback riding with Hollingwells Equestrian (what super people and horses), touring distilleries (Balblair at the bottom of the road was featured in the film - The Angel's Share) and trips around the coast. Every evening we would return to the peace, quiet and warmth of Polgarrie. The house was a perfect retreat and launch pad for our escape in the highlands. We will certainly come again.

Polgarrie House lies in a beautiful, peaceful highland glen, with all round views, 45 minutes drive north of Inverness, on the Dornoch Firth, near the Royal Borough of Tain.

Our farmhouse offers the perfect setting for exploring the North of Scotland. Polgarrie itself sits at the bottom of Struie Hill, making it a perfect setting for outdoor activities including hiking, climbing and mountain biking (A well known national trail is just 15Km), exploring archeological sites, or playing badmington on the lawn of its own 1.5 acre grounds. It is ideal for bird watching and also wild game spotting, such as red deer, foxes, hares and polecats have all been seen from the sitting room. There is a stream 100m from the house with a water fall to explore.

Whiskey tours of the nearby Edderton distillery (Ballblair) and the Tain (Glen Morangie) stills as well as tours of the Dunrobin Castle (30 km) are all within easy reach.

The famous Falls of Shin are a 25 Km (25 minutes) drive away, which makes another ideal outing to see jumping salmon.
