This holiday home is one of the original village cottages built at the whim of the eccentric Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie. Thorpeness is a truly unique fantastical holiday village, with a beautiful boating lake (Meare), complete with Peter Pan islands, a 70ft fairytale cottage on stilts, mock-tudor homes, a country club, golf course and club house, and of course the Dolphin Inn. This is all situated a stones throw from the beautiful beach and rugged coastline. The village also boasts the Emporium and Kitchen for tasty local breakfasts, lunches and early dinner! The Tea rooms on the Meare allow the less willing boat goers to watch as the rest of your family and friends enjoy this incredible lake, with its rowing boat, canoe, Kayak and punting hire.
The lanes linking the homes of Thorpeness are an ideal and safe cycle route down to the beach and onto the path to Aldeburgh. The beach hikes to Dunwich, Minsmere, Walberswick and across to Southwold can be enjoyed all year round.
The village of Thorpeness is just a short 30 minute stroll into Aldeburgh or less than 5 minute drive, and only 15 minutes drive to the RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve. Further afield are Framlingham Castle, Orford Ness and Castle, Rendlesham Forest (and for the adventurous there is a mountain/BMX park in the forest).
The house is freshly decorated with contemporary bathrooms and Plain English Kitchen with bi-fold doors leading out to the sheltered and secluded patio area. The house offers space and relaxation for families and groups alike.
The Kitchen is well equipped with an American Fridge Freezer, dishwasher, Mercury Range cooker with one gas plus one electric oven, separate grill and warming drawer. The owners love to cook and socialise so there are plenty of plates, cutlery and glasses. The laundry cupboard houses a washing machine and separate tumble drier. The kitchen leads through to the snug (with TV) and the downstairs shower room, perfect to wash off the sand from a day at the beach, or muddy children after a day on the Meare.
There are two seating areas in the sitting room, perfect for those who wish to watch TV whilst the rest of the family can socialise around the large coffee table at the other end of the room. For the colder evenings there is a log burner.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms - two kingsize, one with en-suite, plus one twin room and one single. There is also a family bathroom with a large bath to relax in after a days walk or fun filled day of activities in the area.
Outside there are areas to sit at the front or rear of the house with a table and chairs at the rear and bench to the front of the house boasting beautiful views across the Meare, a favourite Pimms or G&T spot for all guests to enjoy.
