About Carol Carty

We (Carol and Enda Carty) purchased newly-built Curlew Cottage in 2006 as a home-from-home for our young family; now, with our children older, we have decided to share our special hideaway with discerning guests who appreciate the country life and the wild beauty of North Kerry. As dog owners, we particularly appreciate the difficulty of finding high-quality accommodation that accepts pets, so we make a point of welcoming well-behaved dogs and their responsible owners.

We love our second home and hope you'll fall in love with it and the surrounding area as much as we have.

Carol Carty purchased this bungalow in 2006

Why Carol Carty chose County Kerry

What do we love about North Kerry? Where do we start!?

We love the music, the pubs, the chat and the 'craic'. We love the fresh air and fresh food, the local markets and the craft fairs. We love it that we can hide away in the country but be in town in a matter of minutes.

We love our 'secret' beach! Tucked away behind the nearby golf course - which you can see from the house - this mile-long sandy stretch is known only to locals and guests - on a crowded day you might find 25 people there. The water is clean, the beachcombing is good, and the view is stunning. We walk and swim there year-round - and if you have a dog be sure and bring a ball!

We love the country life, and with the house surrounded by farmland and sea there is always something to watch or listen for. One frosty morning we heard the curlews calling in the estuary - hence the name of our house. And on a clear night you'll have an almost limitless view of the night sky with the Milky Way painting a bold streak across the constellations.

To help our guests enjoy the same special qualities of the area that we do, we have compiled a list of interesting and useful addresses, phone numbers, drives and activities, which you'll find in a notebook in the kitchen. But the best thing to do is what we always do - explore, and make your own magic in the Kingdom of Kerry.

What makes this bungalow unique

- As dog owners we appreciate how hard it is to find a high- quality vacation home that is pet-friendly and secure, so we especially welcome responsible dog owners. And for those without dogs, rest assured that the house is cleaned to the highest standard after each group!

- Our secure walled and gated garden is also superb for families with young children.

- Tralee Golf Club and a beautiful beach are just a short walk from the house.

- The sea, mountain and sky views from our house are spectacular!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We really had a great time in Ireland and enjoyed your cottage so much. It was one of the best holiday houses we ever had, and it was well equipped with all needs. Our daughter and we all regretted so much that we had to leave after our holiday week.

it was very clean and well kept.

  • 5 of 5

It was plenty large for 6 of us, comfortable, stunning views up and down the coast, grocery stores nearby, pubs and cows to keep us company next door! John the farmer gave us a tour of the milking process and brought his kids over to see my kids with their brand new kittens.

We would suggest the house to our friends.

Spacious and comfortable, with a great view!

  • 5 of 5

Curlew Cottage was our base for a wonderful week of car trips in late September. The Dingle Penninsula, Ring of Kerry and Killarney National Park were well within reach. We even got to the Beara Penninsula for a day. We enjoyed walks on the road past the Tralee golf course. Our view from the conservatory dining area was beautiful, showing us the ocean beyond a field of grazing cows and a flower garden in the yard. The house is modern, superbly equipped, clean and secure. All told it was exactly as described, we had a great time there and would highly recommend it!

Curlew cottage, autumn 2017

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Curlew Cottage for the first week in October. We were there for autumn bird watching.Carol was a great host, available always on the end of a phone to answer queries. The cottage was clean and comfortable and very well equipped for a self catering holiday. The beds are comfortable, and it was wonderful to have a duvet with low tog rating, as usually holiday homes provide duvets which are far too heavy for modern ,well insulated houses!. Carol left comprehensive instructions for managing the house, eg heating system and alarm system. Curlew cottage is well situated for exploring north Kerry . It is convenient for walking to the beach and golf club. We had a wonderful break, and were delighted to be able to take our dog with us!, thank you Carol.

Perfect for Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for relaxation. The views from both the front of the property and the back were just lovely. The house was clean and well provisioned for our stay. The property is a little difficult to find as it is out of the way but it was very much worth the effort.

I would recommend this property for anyone who wants to visit Ireland and would definitely stay there again.

The home was charming and bright. Really clean and provided all that we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Our dealings with Carol Carty were very helpful and professional. The home was easy to find and ideally located for wonderful restaurants in Ardfert and Fenit. Would love to stay there again in the future. Our daughter and son-in - law who were traveling with us were delighted with the beautiful views from the house.

Beautiful home in the Irish countryside

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home on a well maintained property in County Kerry. Excellent launching pad to Tralee, Dingle, Ring of Kerry and Killarney. House is very clean and well stocked with comfortable beds and all the amenities. Owner is very pleasant and easy to deal with. House has large rooms and plenty of space. No negatives that we found. Would visit again if we ever make our way back to Kerry!
