Ground floor duplex unit on family-owned property directly along the Kokololio Beach Park and uncrowded sandy beach. Completely furnished with new kitchen completed in January 2016 and providing 3 queen beds and TV, cable and wireless internet. Two beds are in a larger bedroom and the other in a separate smaller bedroom plus there is a queen-sized air mattress for a 7th and/or 8th person (Should anyone need more room, there is a 1BR fully furnished guest house on this property perfect for a couple: VRBO Listing# 1183677). Owner occupies the 2nd floor residence and because there could be a other vacationers staying in the guest house, it's really not appropriate for private events or late-night parties. However, there is a beautifully landscaped backyard just outside the entry door which is available for guests - use of picnic table, water hose for after returning from beach, and large grassy area. The property is vey private since the beach park is to the front, forest to the rear and only one neighbor on the side. Also, we are in a safe area and having three units on the property there is nearly always someone present, including myself as I'm retired. Discount if booked for 7 or more nights as well as a monthly discount (please do not ask for further discount, except for last-minute booking). NOTE: Latest 'check-in' time is 10pm - if you have a late arriving flight, please search for an alternate vacation rental.

About Jack Frick
I've traveled around the world, settling in various locations for a couple of years at a time for the past 50 years, beginning after growing up in the Washington, D.C. area and then getting the travel-bug having attented high school at the International School of Bangkok. I raised my family of four throughout all those changes of residences until my wife passed away (health complications) when my children soon became old enough to begin their own lives. I live alone now. Though supporting the family with my IT career, I attempted to retire early by establishing an art gallery and event theater in Honolulu where I was instrumental in building up the arts district (even bringing the First Friday Art Walk to the city). Running out of working capital, I returned to my IT profession and began planning for retirement. I was fortunate to be hired into the federal civilian ranks and worked my way back sufficiently to land a transfer from one Army post in Arizona to Fort Shafter here on the island where I could purchase this remarkable property that supports my mortgage and will allow me to avoid 'scaling down' to an apartment in retirement. Everything has worked out as planned and going well after retiring November 2016.
Jack Frick purchased this House in 2015
Why Jack Frick chose Laie
I chose this property because it in the same neighborhood where my family of four resided when we were all together. It is beachside (unobstructed ocean view fronting large public beach park) in a lush, tropical weather location. And, though deep into the countryside, this neighborhood provides the only two grocery stores for miles, post office, drug store, a hardware, and several eateries. It is also walking distance to a major tourist attraction, the Polynesian Cultural Center and renowned Turtle Bay Resort. Even being a half hour to an hour drive to the next larger town and city, the drive is a joyous one along the shore, half the way is within a few yards of our beautiful, expansive ocean views.
What makes this House unique
2 separate bedrooms - one with two queen beds and a smaller on with one; new full kitchen; walk across grassy beach park directly to the beach; 2 grocery stores (one within walking distance as well as a drug store, post office and eatery); less than a mile from the Polynesian Cultural Center, gas station, and McDonalds.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Now one of my favorite beaches and areas. Pretty quiet beach, great host, etc... A bit of road noise but many properties are like that in the region. Jack was available but not intrusive at all, a great place to stay.
Great spot for small family getaway
Unobtrusive host, near the beach and Polynesian Cultural Center. The road is busy and a bit noisy but quiet at night. Home is fully equipped for most things you might want
Comfortably fit our family of 7
We had such a great time! Enjoyed the beach right across the road, the critters in the yard, the kitchen table - big enough to eat at - with our whole family, or have a game of cards, the washer and dryer, and the big red cooler!!
Jack is fabulously accommodating, and didn't even bat an eye when we sheepishly showed him the torn up boogie boards - we used them every day! He went out an bought us a brand new blender when we mentioned the one provided was broken. Honestly, he did whatever he could to make our stay more enjoyable.
I did four stars instead of five because of the traffic on the highway. Nothing Jack can do anything about, but to be honest, I needed to include it. It was louder then we expected so most of us wore ear plugs (which Jack provides! :))
Thanks again Jack! This was a holiday that we will never forget!
Jack was great!
We enjoyed our time at Jack's rental. The rental had all that we needed and we loved nice back yard. Jack was extremely helpful and accommodating and even gave us some papaya's from his lovely backyard. Our only concern is that we had small children with us and needed to be very careful to keep them in the back yard so that they were not exposed to the traffic on the busy street. Thank you, Jack, for your help and for the open and timely communication on all fronts. Aloha!
Glad everything worked out well for you and your family. Even though we needed to block off a small space in the yard, it's good that it's quite pleasant for small children to have such a large yard to play in, whether accompanied by adult or not. Hope to have you here again some day!
Enjoyed our stay at Jack’s North Shore property!
Pros: Great Location! Onsite parking! Well kept property both inside and out! Loved having a nice uncrowded beach right across the street!
Cons: Little to no circulation in house even with windows open and fans blowing. Sleeping was rough without coolness!!!!!
Overall: had a great time and would rent property again perhaps just different time of year.
Glad you enjoyed my rental unit, Wendy! So sorry the weather was a bit too humid during your stay. Please come again!
Relaxing and Peaceful
This rental property has a lot of amenities that benefited our family. Our family of 7 and for a few days 8 we loved that we had a lot of space including sleeping arrangements, the 2 inflatable beds came in hand. The backyard was super gorgeous and exciting for the kids to pick papaya and see how bread fruit is grown. The beach toys and coolers were a huge plus so that we didn't have to purchase.
Downfall it is right off of the main road and there's lots of through traffic noise but we were provided with ear plugs and that did help out a lot.
It does get pretty muggy without a/c but you're on the windward side of the island and gives you more appreciation of going out to the ocean which is located right across the street, instead of staying indoors.
Jack was an exceptional host and was super easy to keep into contact with him.
A hui hou Hawaii
So glad you enjoyed my rental and location. Please come again, anytime! I always seek to please my guests.
Located in the northeast region of the island of Oahu in the countryside an hour's drive from the city. This stretch of the beach-hugging highway is considered the most beautiful on the island due to the lush vegetation and close proximity to the ocean as well as the Koolau mountain range which stretches alongside the opposite side of the highway. The main attraction, Polynesian Cultural Center is now one of the main tourist attraction on the island and is located within walking distance of the rental unit. Other attractions nearby are the Kualoa Ranch and Kahuku township which both offer horse riding. Also, we are near the famed North Shore, an area known for international surfing championships. Our specific location is in a safe area and further provides security having three units on the property where someone is nearly always present.
