Unusually for a period French property, the lounge/dining room is exceptionally bright due to the large windows & doors (all double glazed). As well as the verandah, there are patio areas front & rear, & your own private garden.
Apart from the spacious well-equipped kitchen, you have a choice of charcoal & gas barbecues, as well as a substantial rustic affair, for which plenty of wood can be found nearby!
Dogs, if well-behaved, are welcome, provided details agreed in advance. We have a friendly border collie.

The delight is the very rural location, yet at the same time, you can walk to the centre of Chalandray in less than 15 minutes. Our long tree-lined drive opens onto the N149 (actually the main road between the medieval market towns of Parthenay & Poitiers), so you have no worries about finding us, or indeed getting lost down country lanes (unless you want to!).
In the village there is a SPAR shop/post office, baker, haidresser, library, and two bar-restaurants. The bar-restaurants have recently re-opened following refurbishment, and provide very good & imaginative food at a very reasonable price. One of the reasons we left England to live in France is French cuisine, so we are pleased to have these so close. Nearby, in fact neighbouring, is another chateau, built in 1458 and restored in recent years by the current owners. It is open to the public at certain times. Our chateau was built around 1870 as the count who lived in that one wanted somewhere more comfortable!
Your home for your holiday has been renovated with quality & elegance as keynotes. Modern, but with all the character of days gone by. Whilst you admire the furniture, you will appreciate that the emphasis is on antique, not Ikea. We have a new Samsung 47" TV with satellite for UK (and other countries!) channels reception, plus Blu-Ray dvd player.
The choice is yours! You can dine formally under the chandelier and beautifully painted ceiling, at a 19th century Henri II table. Champagne ice bucket on stand for your convenience! Or enjoy the sun, or sunset, in the verandah, where another table and eight chairs await. There is a large table in the kitchen as well, perhaps for an intimate breakfast or chat amongst friends over coffee, whilst you plan your day's entertainment. Or why not eat outside? A new large teak table & chairs with parasol is ready for your use.
What to do afterwards? Laze by the pool, or nearby on the terrace? Lounger, garden chair, steamer...your choice. Anyone for tennis?! Swim? A different walk to the one you enjoyed yesterday? Use the gym equipment? Boules/petanque? Table tennis or table football? Traditional board game or jigsaw puzzle? Read a book, or go fishing? All this without leaving the property.
Heated indoor pool. The pool is U-shaped and VERY large, equivalent in area to a rectangular pool 15.5 x 6 metres! Around two thirds of the pool is 1.6 metres (5' 2') deep, with a sloping section to the other third, which is 1.2 metres (3' 11') deep. There is gym equipment provided, including a Tony Little Gazelle cross trainer. Also a bar...you supply the drinks!
The pool house roof is glazed and south facing so a lovely bright environment...and of course, no worries if it starts raining. Furthermore there are huge sliding windows on 3 of the 4 sides of the pool house. So you can enjoy the benefits of an outside pool without the wind, dust and other inconveniences. Roman steps one end, ladders the other. You have primary and exclusive use each day at times to be agreed. Most guests will have sole use of the pool at all times. It is private, which means there is no public access (yes, we have had enquiries!), however occasionally we have guests staying at the chateau. You can reserve exclusive use of the pool for a supplementary charge. If you like, you can also swim in the evening, or even at night; the pool house has lighting, and there is submerged lighting in the pool itself.
The poolhouse has a fixed shower area, plus an enclosed toilet & washhand basin, complete with hair dryer. The pool house is equipped with substantial dehumidifiers which also operate as heaters. So the pool truly can be used, very comfortably, all year round.
Terrace/patio area, between the pool and the tennis court. Loungers and chairs etc provided.

Table tennis also available, & boules. 'Babyfoot' football game, adult size, in the verandah.
Possibility of use of full-size French billiard (billard) table in the billiard room of the chateau.

Free wifi available, but please note this is rural France & internet speed is slow, & the connection can be intermittent.
Fishing (you will need a permit, now available online): the River Vendelogne is at the bottom of the hill, and is Category 1 for trout fishing. You will need your own equipment.
Birdwatching: there are a fantastic variety of birds here, and there is a hide in the woods for your use.
Mainly woodland but a good deal of pasture too. We have deer, rabbits & foxes. If you like fishing, birdwatching, or just walking, you will enjoy it here.
There are several, and surprisingly varied, walks on our land alone (we have a different walk for every day of the week!). These are mainly rides that the count laid out to enjoy whilst riding his horse, doubtless accompanied by the countess and their children. We recently discovered another one, that has become overgrown; see if you can find it; or perhaps there's another we haven't found! You can have flat, hilly, wooded (various), open country and riverside. Walk in the sun, or in the shade, whichever you prefer.
We have recently returned from a 11 night stay at Treguel. We were a group of 7 adults plus 2 doggies!
The living accommodation on the ground floor was large and spacious. There was a large smart TV in the lounge, but sadly not English satellite channels, that did not stop us watching French TV and DVDs. The kitchen was big and had washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. The fridge had a small freezer at the top and was adequate for our needs. We ate most of our meals in the conservatory area which again was large. The house was clean and a bit mix and match with furnishings but this added to the appeal of the house. Maybe a few more kitchen items such as a grater, cooking dishes, wine glasses, mugs and extra cutlery would have been useful but we still managed.
Upstairs were 4 bedrooms (1 en suite) and a shower room and a bathroom with shower head. There was always plenty of hot water.
The swimming pool was bigger than I expected with one end deep enough to dive in if you wanted. The tennis court was a bit slippy on the edges the first couple of days as there was moss grown on that we needed to spend time clearing off the court. After that we played tennis every day, sometimes more. We played table tennis a few time too and had plenty of space to throw Frisbees and balls.
There was plenty to do around Treguel, the dogs had plenty of nice walks and the 2 Chalandray restaurants had good food and wine at very reasonable prices. We used the local spar and patisserie a lot and did most of our supermarket shopping in Parthenay which was only a 20 minute drive away.
Wifi was available but it was very hit and miss, I found that the only way I could get a good signal was to sit on the steps of the Chateau. Be warned if you want a good connection, be prepared to sit outside!
All in all a lovely holiday and I would recommend and may return again in the future.

We stayed in this really big property for 4 days. Very kind and really helpful owners. The Manor is vast, the castle really impressive and the park around it massive, with plenty trees and flowers, roes and rabbits. It didn't stop raining for the 4 days but we managed to keep the kids happy with the huge pool kept warm enough for us as well as several mushroom picking sessions (plenty ceps and coulemelles) that we cooked ourselves. The big flat screen TV helped a bit too.
The property was well suited to what we were looking for with something for teenagers, adults and 4 dogs to chill out for a week.
This was our first trip with the dogs to France and the owners were very helpful in assisting with local vet for all the paperwork for the return trip.
The manor house is in a lovely quiet setting in the grounds of the chateau, which gave lots of space for dogs and teenagers to explore. The swimming pool was used everyday as was the tennis court.
We were blessed with good weather throughout our short stay.
Facilities in the house were good and the owners set up English satellite TV which kept teenagers happy in the evening.
The local town was well served with supermarkets
The owners were very friendly and provided information about the area and their plans for the chateau.
Internet access was not good in the manor house and this helped to make this a nice relaxing break in France.
We had a great time there.
Great for children with large veranda, garden, lounge, 1st floor, with a great U swimming pool.
Great for teenagers with, again, the large swimming pool, the tennis court, and the big TV Set.
You can eat outside, in the veranda, in the kitche, in the dinning room.
Bedrooms are large, as corridors. it's a nice house.
The towns of Parthenay and Poitier are realy nice, calm , withj old (some medieval) bulldings.... to visit, rivers ...
We've also visited the Futuroscope, nice with chldren and teens.
We plan to go back there next summer, so, of course, we would recommend it to friends.
The listing description was completely accurate and it was great to be in such an historic setting. The view of the 160 year old chateau was a tremendous sight as we came to the end of the drive.
The property we actually stayed in, the newly beautifully and tastefully converted stables, were light filled and clean.and were well appointed, as were the kitchen and untility room.The beds were very comfortable and there was a lot of room to find your own space. The magnificent indoor heated swimming pool, was a welcome warming experience, especially on the colder days we were there.
The owner was friendlly though not intrusive. We took up his kind offer to have a look in the chateau (not always available we understand) and it was quite an insight into the way people used to live.
There was a lot more to do in the area than I expected and the owner provided a good list of activities and good restaurants. The eateries with buffets were surpisingly good value. Why can't we have the same in the UK? The countryside around is amazingly varied and we were suprised by the historicity of the surrounding towns. Quite fascinating.
The grounds of the chateau provided quite a few good walks and it was good to hear from the owner that one of the reason he had bought this chateau was that most of the grounds (50 acres apparently) were still intact.
Altogether it was a very good stay and we enjoyed the location, the hoilday home and found the surrounding area far more interesting than we first expected. We would definitely reccommend it and are thinking of bringing back an international group for Easter next year. There is still a lot more to see in the area.

Les volumes sont très agréables et spacieux. Elle est située dans un cadre enchanteur arboré. Un endroit calme, plein de charme et parfait pour un séjour en famille. Nous le recommandons aux amis. We are ideally & quietly situated just off the main road between the medieval market towns of Parthenay & Poitiers. Our location is very rural, yet at the same time we are just a short walk to the village and well positioned on the road network for getting to and from places of interest. An oasis of calm; but certainly not in the middle of nowhere! We have holidayed in France for many years and so often found the places we stayed at were difficult to find, and involved long drives down narrow country roads, often poorly signposted. Three years of house viewing led us to buying this property; very few we saw came close to our location requirements, but this place had it all.
Futuroscope itself is in Poitiers, and Puy du Fou (we were told recently that Puy de Fou is the second most visited theme park in the world) is not far. La Rochelle & Sables d'Olonne are the nearest seaside resorts, very different, less than 90 minutes & 2 hours drive respectively. The countryside around is pleasantly varied, some is hilly, some is flat; if you enjoy cycling, choose your route! The roads are great for driving as well, well signposted & very little traffic.
The world renowned angling lakes of Pescalis are a short drive. and a popular one at Ayron is even closer.
There are several good golf courses in the vicinty. Les Forges is closest, a pleasant 15 minute drive. It has a highly regarded 27 hole course, and an English pro. They also run 'kiddy clinics' in the summer, so your children can learn the sport as you play.
There is a 'poney club' just outside Chalandray. The vineyards of Haut Poitou are nearby; we particularly like the rose. Most of the vineyards offer tastings.
Chalandray is in the Vienne, a department of Poitou Charentes, which is the second sunniest region of France after the Cote d'Azur. Incidentally, Chalandray itself is actually on the Greenwich meridian. Despite this, France is one hour ahead of England timewise, so we enjoy an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day!

It works the other way too...so we offer discounts for stays of more than 7 nights.
If booking 8 weeks or more before your holiday, the deposit and 25% of the rental is paid at the time of booking, with the balance due 8 weeks before commencement.
