La Zapatera is a large modern cortijo-style house in the midst of 20 acres of unspoilt Andalucian countryside. All rooms have interesting and different views of the gardens, terraces, courtyards and surrounding countryside.
Casa de las Pasas is a restored 110 year old cottage, 40m from the main house.
There are extensive gardens surrounding the 9m swimming pool and outdoor dining space. There is a large covered area giving shade throughout the day, built-in BBQ, fridge and dining tables.
La Zapatera sleeps 10 or 11 people in 5 bedrooms (plus a cot), and Casa Las Pasas has one bedroom but can accommodate up to 4 making a total of 14/15 (+ a baby). Both properties share the external facilities including the pool and garden areas.
In La Zapatera, there is the Hall (lounge and library 100 m²) with 2 sitting areas and access to the Fountain Courtyard and the Main Courtyard with its secret garden. The separate dining room gives access to the Fountain Courtyard as well as a separate terrace, all ideal for dining. The modern Italian fitted kitchen has a full range of appliances and equipment. There is a toilet on this floor and an utility room.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, 3 en-suite. 3 bedrooms are double/twin rooms and one is a triple bedded room.
Casa de las Pasas. This house is the original 'casa de campo' and is over 110 years old. It was hand built of stone by the grandfather of the previous owners and was their home during harvests and the preparation of raisins (pasas). It is 40 m from La Zapater.
Casa Las Pasas was fully renovated in 2010 to provide a comfortable, sunny cottage for up to 4 people (assuming that the whole party uses the main house for meals etc.). A terrace runs the length of the property with a shaded area provided in part by an ancient vine. The sitting room opens onto the terrace. There is a fully fitted kitchen and dining area, open-plan to the sitting room. The door to the double bedroom opens from the sitting room. The bathroom is spacious with new, quality fittings.
To the rear of the cottage the old wine pressing area has been renovated whilst beyond the terrace the recently restored raisin drying beds are surrounded by garden areas. A path leads to a shaded terrace under trees.A working holiday: The owners have restored a large part of the surrounding land and now harvest olives, almonds and vines. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the comfort of the house during their stay but are equally welcome to help with the various harvests and wine making at different times of the year.
Canillas de Aceituno is on the edge of a national park and has a tranquil feel to it. We have owned a property here for nearly 20 years. During that time we have got to know the people and the area. When La Zapatera (it means the shoemaker's wife) came on the market we knew that it would make a wonderful place for a new house. We designed the house and used a local builder to construct it.
A large family celebration late last summer called for a large comfortable house in the country and La Zapatera fitted the bill perfectly. Close to both the lovely village of Canillas de Aceituno and the ancient town of Velez Malaga the house is set in beautiful surroundings with mountain views . Aged in its spirit with its Moorish design but with all modern facilities ,.spacious accommodation and a lovely pool, La Zapatera was the perfect choice for our family holiday. We look forward to our return.

We have stayed regularly at La Zapatera and always been delighted with the quality of the accommodation in the grand main house and the expertly rehabilitated shepherds cottage.
We particularly appreciate the generous sized swimming pool with attached outside kitchen area. The bonus must be the location, surrounded by mountains and inhabited by interesting birds and wildlife. Here there is both privacy and comfort.

This beautiful, large house is in a very stunning, private location, with amazing views of the mountains and olive groves. Its extensive accommodation and grounds ensure plenty of scope for many activities. The pool is in a fabulous sunny location with shaded terraces and is very peaceful. The house has many different garden areas too, some reflecting the Moorish influences of the area. There are numerous outdoor seating areas, terraces and tracks within the grounds through the olive and almond groves. There is also an abundance of wild flowers in the area. There are also many tracks outside the grounds for walks. The house is very well equipped with many added special touches and features. The rooms are very spacious with many luxury features. The tranquillity of the house and location make it the perfect holiday venue for those seeking something special and away from it all.
La Zapatera is located in its own 78,000 m² of rural land, 7 km from Canillas de Aceituno. It has unspoilt views of Mount Maroma, the highest mountain in the region. There are extensive olive groves, almond orchards and two vineyards. We produce our own olive oil and organic red wine.
Canillas de Aceituno is a typical Andalucian white village within 20 min drive of the nearest town, Velez Malaga and less than half an hour away from the beaches of Torre Del Mar. Nerja is about 40 min away. The village is on the edge of a National Park. This perfect location is excellent for walking (on the GR 242) and local exploration. Canillas offers a good choice of restaurants, bars, shops and cafes. The nearby Lake Vinuela also has a good choice of restaurants and views of the mountains.
We are within easy reach of Granada (Alhambra), Cordoba and Seville. Nereja is only just over half an hour away.
