About the property

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, this delightful limestone cottage, dating back to 1703, nestles under the Grade 1 listed manor, Chastleton House. The recently refurbished and interior designed cottage, set in just under an acre of stunning landscaped garden, retains much of its original character and charm, with oak beams, curved staircase, inglenook fireplace and mullion windows.

In the centre of the quiet leafy village, the cottage has the original post box set into the entrance pillar to the property: a reminder that the cottage was once the village post office. 

Chastleton is the perfect location for friends or family wanting to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of a small village while having wonderful country pubs and larger villages nearby. The village is home to the Grade 1 listed manor house, Chastleton House owned by the National Trust and is an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds. The historic market towns of Stow on the Wold and Moreton in Marsh are only 4 miles away. There are numerous quintessentially English limestone villages within easy reach, Bourton on the Water, Chipping Camden, Broadway and Burford as well as places to visit like Batsford Arboretum and Hidcote Gardens. Stratford-on-Avon and Oxford are a short distance away. Chastleton has much to offer, with horse riding available at the local riding school, a bronze age hill fort to explore and is perfect countryside for cycling and walking. What better way to explore this conservation village?

The accommodation offers THREE bedrooms. On the first floor: 2 double bedrooms (One double can be separated to form twin beds upon request). Bathroom: bath with shower attachment and WC. On the ground floor: 1 double bedroom, accessed down 3 steps via the kitchen, with oak floor and wardrobes, exposed stone wall and patio doors out onto the garden, Shower room with WC and washer/dryer.

The delightful living area lounge/diner has a huge original open fire (logs included) and under heated flagstone floor, TV, Freeview, DVD and piano. The contemporary kitchen leads off the lounge and has a modern electric cooker/hob with hood over, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Freezer and garden cushions located outside in the outhouse. This semi-detached cottage has a fabulous well-stocked and maintained garden, with mature trees, lawns and flower beds. The garden is a joy to explore and boasts three terraces, a rose garden, herb garden, pergolas, pond and glass covered well. The upper terrace, with views of Chastleton House and the countryside, has seating for up to eight with BBQ. Amenities: roadside parking. Bed linen, towels, electric, central heating and wi-fi included. 1 Dog welcome. Regret no smoking. Location: pub 1 mile, numerous restaurants and shops locally.

Perfect cottage... beautiful gardens

This really is the ideal location to explore the Cotswolds.

Recommend Tilly’s cafe in Moreton-in-Marsh as well as the Waffle Bar, and Lucy’s Tea Room in Stow. This is our second visit, and I’m sure it won’t be our last!

A truly fabulous cottage.

A beautiful cottage which was exactly as described. The log fire really set the scene as we stayed during the snowiest March ever! Lovely garden, great comfy beds,and superbly equipped modern kitchen. The larder was stacked with essentials and some! Will definitely return ASAP

Lovely cottage in tranquil hamlet

We stayed over Christmas and had a fabulous time. Nice heated floor and open log fires. Good space for six plus dog and a nice kitchen. We went for lots of country walks and visited the local towns, it was a real home away from home! Stephen and Iona were great with communication and kindly set up a Christmas tree for us too. A lovely stay for all.

Places to see

Places of local interest.

As there are so many places to visit, towns, local historic houses and country walks, we have left a file with details along with an Ordinance Survey map of the local area. Must see villages/towns are The Slaughters, Chipping Camden, Bourton-on-the-water (has a model village). Then Stratford upon Avon and Cheltenham are both interesting. Within 5 miles there are many fabulous houses that can be visited as well as Batsford arboretum just past Morton.



This is our own historic house, now owned by The National Trust. You can visit the house for most of the year. Enquiries: 01608 674981. I hope you find the house and grounds interesting. The original family lost their money in the English civil war, so they could never afford to modernise – a little glimpse of history.


Iron Age Hill Fort – Within Chastleton, there is an Iron Age hill fort that can be reached on foot across the fields. Walk past Chastleton House and church towards the Stow road. Up the hill in the field to your left, you will see a large circle of trees which mark the hill fort. There is also a Neolithic burial site.

Rollright Stones

An ancient site a 5 minute drive away on the road to Little Rollright.

Blenheim Palace,

Home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace is a true masterpiece of 18th Century Baroque architecture. This World Heritage Site with over 2000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown parkland and Formal Gardens is a short distance away in Woodstock.

Cirencester is the capital of the Cotswolds and dates back to Roman times.

Stratford upon Avon is the birth and death place of our most famous writer Shakespeare.  Here you can visit many of the houses where he or his family lived. If you are interested in theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford, holds regular performances of all the Shakespeare plays an is visited by a worldwide audience.

On the way to Stratford is Hidcote Gardens. They are very beautiful but they are at their very best in May and June.

Close to Moreton in Marsh is Batsford Arboretum and garden centre. Opposite the entrance to Batsford is the entrance to the fabulous historic house, Sezincote. This is well worth a visit. Please check the link below for opening times.

Snowshill Manor near Broadway - also worth a visit.

Two beautiful small towns to visit, wander around and maybe stop for afternoon tea are Broadway and Chipping Camden. They became wealthy (as did most of the Cotswolds) in Medieval times, through the wool trade.  

Very close to Broadway is the beautiful small village, Stanton.

Before going I would check opening times and you have to pre-book. I hope you find something of interest.

There are a couple of Ordinance Survey maps in the cottage as well as a number of books of Cotswold circular walks.
