Overview

About the property

A fully equipped, self catering Holiday Home Rental. Away from it all.

Gibbs Palms a place to relax and read all those books you have been saying you will get to, at the cottage or down at Gibbs Beach, St Peter, Barbados in the beautiful Caribbean Sea. A privately owned house used by family and close friends with some available rental times open to people looking for a tranquil relaxing holiday.

Cottage Tidbits: The cottage was built 45 years ago as a winter getaway. It is privately owed and rented out mainly to long time friends. These annual returning friends treat the property like their own place and give it that 'home-like' holiday cottage feel.

Gibbs Beach: Sometimes spelled Gibbes beach, is a typical picture postcard Caribbean setting. All beaches in Barbados are 'Public Beaches'. There are no commercial activities going on at Gibbs beach as it is bordered by private homes and some high end individual beach rental units. The 2 estates that flank each point are 2 of the most beautiful properties in Barbados. Being on the west coast there are almost never large waves, just that soft rolling warm Caribbean tide in and out on the beach. This makes for easy entry (or exit) to the sea and of course great swimming.

Seeing Barbados: There is only one airport in Barbados, so after you find your holiday deal on a charter, (Virgin, British Midland, BWIA, Air Canada, Westjet, US Air, American Airlines or others) you can arrange a taxi pick up at the airport with us, or you can rent a car to use while here and see Barbados on your own. How you get around Barbados is your choice, as many people prefer many different types of vacations; from independent to adventurous to chauffeured. You can also arrange day trips, by car or boat, or water sports from Gibbs Palms from the information at the cottage. Having a car is your choice. It is not a requirement as buses are easy and frequent down by the coast road. For shopping, Speightstown is a 2km walk down the beach, or you can take the bus for $2.00 BBD, or call a cab. You can return the same way, or the local supermarket (Jordan's) offers free rides home for customers with their groceries.

The week off I needed

  • 5 of 5

A friend who had been before recommended Gibbs Palms to me for a break from work. It was exactly what the Doctor ordered. The house has all you need, with Wifi and a house cell phone, but I went to opt out of the " always connected and accessible world" for my one week. It worked perfectly. My days were the same and blissfully simple; Walk to gorgeous quiet Gibbs beach for swim and exercise, back for breakfast, read, then write. lunch, read, nap, go for late afternoon swim and if low tide a long beach walk to Speightstown, home for dinner in, or up at Chirs's place, then read on the patio, sleep.

Repeat.

The only real social contact I had was with Gregory, the gardener on Wednesday, which was delightful with his infectious happy mood while he works, and with a few visits by Viv the house manager. Viv was friendly, helpful and fun, he made me feel comfortable in a new surrounding.

When ever I can get time for an escape Gibbs Palms is where I will go, but for longer next time.

Private Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Myself and two other friends recently stayed at Gibbs Palm and our trip was absolutely perfect and ended up being everything we were hoping for and so much more. The home itself is lovely. Big enough that we never felt crowded yet small enough that we always felt close to one another. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed many mornings eating our breakfast and many nights drinking wine out on the terrace. The property is gated and private and we always felt safe regardless of the time of day. Gregory comes once a week to tend to the landscaping and entertain you with his singing and the property is definitely a reflection of his hard work. Viv was very kind and always there to help when we needed him. The beach is a short walk down the road and had little to no other beach goers each time we went. Which made it feel like it was your own private paradise. There are a few places withing walking distance to grab a bite to eat, but if you feel like venturing out the bus stops frequently at the end of the street and only costs a dollar or two depending on which bus you choose to take. The only issues we had was there are two sliding doors leading to the sitting area of the home. One of the screens were broken so we were unable to open that door to allow some breeze to pass through the house because of the sand fleas and mosquitos. We were informed that it unfortunately wouldn't be fixed until after we left. Also the 'hump' at the end of the driveway was quite steep so we learned that we needed to warn taxi drivers and friends to pull in the driveway slowly or to park on the road to avoid scrapping the bottom of their cars which happened a lot. But nothing that couldn't be fixed and certainly nothing that would discourage us from returning. We look forward to our next visit to Barbados and would definitely stay here again. Hopefully sooner than later 😊

Great location, lovely gardens

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth year to stay at Gibbs Palms. This time for three weeks as part of a longer vacation.

Rob, the owner, has upgraded some of the furnishings since last year and they are a great improvement.

The cottage is airy and a short walk to the fantastic Gibbs Beach, which we think is one of the best beaches on the West Coast.

It's also just a short drive to Speightstown and Holetown for shopping, bars and restaurants.

We plan to book again next year.

Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed at Gibbs Palms a year ago and loved it so much we are returning this year. The cottage had everything we needed including an incredibly warm and welcoming feel to it. You can tell it's a well-loved and well cared for family cottage. Rob was great to deal with from the moment we inquired about booking. He was incredibly helpful in arranging airport pickup, making sure we settled in OK and answering any questions. Viv was at the airport to pick us up and even stopped at the grocery store so we could get some supplies on our way to the cottage. And he helped us get the lay of the land with lots of great suggestions for things to do on the island. The location is perfect - a short walk to beautiful beaches, close to buses, and within walking distance to Chris' Place and Speightstown. Holetown and Folkestone are a short bus ride away. But you might just be happiest lounging at the cottage on the patio enjoying the lovely gardens...

Slice of Paradise

  • 4 of 5

A comfortable home with beautiful patios and gardens. Short walk to Gibbs Beach - the best beach on the island in our opinion! Close to Speightstown, a quaint Bajan town with great shops, restaurants and services. Holetown is also close by - bigger and more touristy. We love Gibbs Palms for its feeling of home while in paradise!
