➤ THE KITCHEN
We are keen cooks so Trevenna has a very well equipped and stocked kitchen with a selection of recipe books. We keep a larder of cooking basics, such as herbs, spices, salt, peppercorns, olive oil, vinegar, stock cubes, flour, sugar, etc, as well as supplies such as tea, coffee, aluminium foil, greaseproof paper, cling film and cleaning items. All the things you need on a self-catering holiday but don't necessarily want to bring with you or buy and carry home.
We do not charge for this, and cannot guarantee these items will definitely be available, everything is simply what we and our guests buy and leave for others to enjoy, please feel free to use the store and add to it. If we all in someway replenish what we use, donate a replacement, or simply add something else to the larder, we can all enjoy the benefit now and next time!
➤ KEYS, CHECK-IN/OUT, GUEST MANUAL AND LOCAL GUIDE
We have a self check-in/out system, which means you are not restricted and can arrive at whatever time suits you. When booking we send you a key code for access to Trevenna Cottage. The keys are in a key-safe by the door, simply enter the code to open it.
▪︎ Always leave the key in the key-safe when going out, we may need access in an emergency, and this also prevents keys getting lost.
▪︎ Check-In from 16:00 / Check-Out before 10:00.
Trevenna has a detailed Guest Manual full of useful information about the cottage itself and local tips, shopping, dining, etc. It should answer any questions you may have to help you make the most of your stay. It also contains our House Rules, please take the time to read through them. Thank you!
‘Our Cornwall’, an illustrated guide book written specifically for Trevenna’s guests, contains a history of the hamlet and information about our favourite places to visit, historical sites, natural beauty spots, points of interest. With hints and tips for walkers, beaches, insider knowledge, etc, it will provide inspiration to explore and discover the wonders of Cornwall!
Our team live locally and we are available via email or telephone should you need us. Otherwise we will leave you in peace, undisturbed to enjoy a cosy cottage and explore Looe and its charming surroundings.
Trevenna Cottage is in a secluded location 1½ miles from the nearest village Pelynt. We strongly recommend our guests use a car when staying here, and have private parking. We will send you detailed driving directions and a local map which we STRONGLY recommend you print and use. Satellite Navigation with postcode input is highly unreliable in the country lanes where streets do not have listed names, and a single postcode covers a large area!
➤ THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
There is a wealth of local attractions easily accessible from Trevenna Cottage including: Talland Bay, the quaint fishing ports Looe, Fowey and Polperro, the Woolly Monkey Sanctuary, internationally renowned Eden Project, Tate Gallery St Ives and, said to be the birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle. Steeped in legend and mystery where you can still visit wizard Merlin's Cave. Also the many filming locations seen in the BBC’s Poldark production, and the beautiful village Port Isaac which plays the fictional village Portwenn in ITV's much loved Doc Martin series.
Also several stately homes and gardens: Lanhydrock, Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe, Port Eliot and Antony House can be easily reached from here, as well as rugged Bodmin Moor and a variety of beautiful, sandy beaches, and bays skirting the stunning Cornish coastline. Other local attractions include sailing, fishing and diving, and spectacular walks, particularly on the South West Coast Path, westwards via Talland Bay over Polperro, Lantic Bay, Lantivet Bay and Polruan to Fowey. Adrenalin junkies can race at the go-karting track, try out the zip wire or the giant swing at the nearby Adrenalin Quarry! See Guest Manual for more details.
The nearest villages are Pelynt 1½ miles and Duloe 2½ miles. Pelynt has two very good grocery shops, a post office, church and The Jubilee Inn pub. Duloe is interesting for its stone circle made up of eight bright white quartzite stones. Also in Duloe is The Plough pub serving simple, honest cuisine, real ales and wines.
Six miles away is Looe a very quaint and pretty, coastal town and fishing port. Several fish dealers operate from the docks of East Looe. With its fleet of small fishing boats returning their catches to port daily, Looe has a reputation for producing excellent fresh fish. The town is also a centre for shark fishing, and is the home of the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain.
The town centres around a small harbour and along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which flows between East and West Looe to the sea beside a sandy beach. Off shore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, lies the idyllic St George's Island, otherwise known as Looe Island. Looe's main business today is tourism with a large number of pubs, cafés, restaurants, and shops.
East Looe centres on its broad sandy beach with the distinctive Banjo Pier. Stretching back from here is a grid of narrow streets forming the ancient centre of the town, packed with many small shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, and the Old Guildhall, now a museum.
On New Year's Eve, Looe has a large celebration, it is one of the top 4 UK New Year locations. People begin the evening in the town and slowly move towards the seafront for a celebratory midnight firework display.
