About Cathey Groombridge

The flat has been in our family since they were built in the early sixties and we have had a love of St Ives since then. We have many happy memories of surfing, fishing and having fun with many families who we met every year. My brother and I have taken over from our parents and still love to go down and enjoy the art and beautiful coast line. The sea however seems to have got a lot colder!

Cathey Groombridge purchased this apartment in 1963

Why Cathey Groombridge chose St Ives area

My father bought the flat when St Ives was very different but he wanted a place where we could all go and have fun in the holidays. 50 years later we are still enjoying it.What a wise man he was!

What makes this apartment unique

Right on the beach. A short walk to the shops and restaurants and garage parking!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our week in your flat was wonderful, thank you so much. Everything was perfect, even the weather was fine and we had such a good time.

As St Ives has become our favourite summer-holiday destination, we would like to ask if the flat will be available next year again

Stunning Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

No. 5 Barnaloft was a wonderful place to stay with my family. My little girl of 16 months absolutely loved having the beach right outside the door. We have previously stayed at No. 5 for the last few years, and the renovations the owners have completed to the flat have really made a lovely impact, whilst giving it more modern home from home luxuries it does not in any way lose any of the original charm of the flat that we absolutely love and makes us go back year on year. The added bonus of wifi is great too. We cannot wait to return in October and I am sure we will be booking our holiday there for next year too very soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review of our flat in St Ives. We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your holiday at 5 Barnaloft, and that you like the improvements we have made over the Winter. It is good to hear that you feel we have achieved what we set out to do, which was to bring it up to modern day luxury without losing its original family holiday charm. St Ives is addictive and we are really pleased you have booked to go again in October, only 4 months to wait! Kind regards The Dukes Family

Homely with perfect location

  • 5 of 5

With a stunning location and home from home accommodation we had a perfect holiday. The apartment was spotlessly clean. There was plenty of hot water and lovely fluffy towels to greet us when we came in from the sea. Great to have somewhere to dry the wetsuits too. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly.

Fantastic Holiday Apartment right on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week in this fantastic beach apartment which has the most amazing views imaginable. Beautifully comfortable beds with good quality cotton bedding & towels. Stylish furnishings & very well equipped with everything one could possibly want or need. Excellent customer service too. We have had a most enjoyable holiday, & would have no hesitation in either recommending or staying here again. It was lovely to be so comfortably close to the sea, sitting on the balcony with a milky coffee, watching the tide come in & out, is my idea of heaven. Thank you Cathey for allowing us to stay here.

Enjoyable in every way

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from spending a brilliant week in this lovely flat. Situated right on the beach It is difficult to put into words the wonderful ever-changing seascape including spectacular sunsets. We had sunshine each day but I believe any month and any weather would give a different but equally enjoyable experience. The flat itself offered everything one could wish for. It was clean, nice linen, fluffy towels, a good range of crockery and utensils and comfortable in every way.

Close to the town, one was spoilt for choice of good cafes for breakfast, evening meals or of course a cream tea. (Olives cafe just up the road being particularly good for the latter!) Galleries, potteries and other works of art are at every turn. We particularly enjoyed visiting The Bernard Leach Museum and Pottery and Barbara Hepworth's Garden. The owners of the flat were superb and did everything to make the booking easy and our stay enjoyable. We very much hope to return.

Perfect place in St. Ives

  • 5 of 5

Barnaloft 5 is the perfect place in St. Ives. We (family of 4) really loved staying there.

Located right on the beach as well as in the middle of St. Ives, this apartment is a least as good as the pictures on the Web indicate and has all you need for a great stay. We'll definitely come back!
