Maltings is a 3 storey, Cotswold stone cottage located in a quiet lane in Nailsworth yet within a few minutes flat walk of pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Two private parking spaces, two bathrooms, ground floor toilet and comfortable, hypoallergenic mattresses on all beds for a sound sleep, a pretty courtyard garden and stylish furnishings complete the picture. The Nailsworth stream meanders its way beyond the garden and can be heard babbling from the master bedroom. Maltings is one of 5 cotswold stone cottages which have been built on the site of the original Nailsworth Brewery. A renovation of the retaining wall in Spring 2018 has unearthed many of the original beer bottles - last seen in 1897! We have kept a few in the living room!
We bought the property in 2003 intending to retire there but have since moved to Shepperton in Surrey to be nearer to family. It has been a holiday let since 2013 with over 20 five star reviews (no longer visible since changing agents). It was closed for several weeks in early 2018 due to extensive work to replace the garden wall and re-opened in May 2018. We are now able to welcome visitors again.
The spacious top floor with king sized bed and ensuite shower room is dual aspect with expansive views over the rooftops of Nailsworth Valley to the rear and the ancient Brewery Lane to the front. We love this restful bedroom at the top of the house. There is little traffic down this tiny lane but horses are led daily to the fields beyond. A private car park for the 5 cottages is a real bonus in Nailsworth, with 2 spaces allocated to Maltings. Although Nailsworth is within easy reach of many interesting places, guests are often happy to browse, explore and dine locally, leaving the car parked until they leave.
The first floor has a twin bedroom overlooking the courtyard garden at the rear and a single room facing Brewery Lane together with the modern family bathroom. Windows on this floor have safety catches for the peace of mind of parents who are enjoying the master room on the top floor.
The ground floor entrance vestibule leads to the hall, cloakroom, fully fitted and equipped kitchen with built in Neff appliances and the lovely lounge / diner opening onto a pretty courtyard garden and stream beyond. This is the perfect spot for a quiet glass of wine in the evening, listening to the many small birds and the babbling stream. There is dining space for 5 with a small bench next to the stream.
The property offers free wifi, two smart televisions (one in the master bedroom and a Blu Ray DVD player in the lounge. There are also plenty of guides and maps to the local area as it is a mecca for walkers. It is stylishly and comfortably furnished with seating and dining space for 5. A modern style of a traditional cottage in a conservation area!
The courtyard garden has seating for 5 plus a BBQ. Guests can enjoy the evening sun with a glass of wine and the sound of the brook beyond the fence.
Maltings sleeps 5 plus a cot (without linen) and high chair for a baby. All linen and towels are provided with a change of linen and an extra clean on bookings of over 9 days.
We accept bookings of 3 nights or more starting any day of the week. (7 nights minimum over the Christmas period)
Nailsworth is an ideal location for exploring the beautiful Cotswold countryside, as well as picturesque local villages and Roman cities such as Cirencester and Bath. It is also within easy reach of Westonbirt Arboretum, Painswick Roccoco Gardens and the Cheltenham races. Gatcombe Park (Princess Anne's residence) is a short distance away for eventing and there is excellent golfing at Minchinhampton golf courses. The nearby Woodchester Mansion is an unfinished gothic residence of great interest set in extensive parklands and well worth a visit. It is possible to visit Prince Charles's garden at Highgrove although booking is essential well in advance to take the tour or book afternoon tea.
Nailsworth is a characterful, artistic, small town with many cafes, pubs and award-winning restaurants, shops and bakeries, and it is becoming increasingly popular with visitors from the UK and abroad. Guests can find everything needed within a short walk without using a car. There are also regular events, with a Farmer's Market held on 4th Saturday of each month in Nailsworth and the renowned Stroud Market, which is only 4 miles away, opening every Saturday. Restaurants include Oldstones, The Wild Garlic, Wilders, Williams' Kitchen, Egypt Mill, The Olive Tree, The Britannia and Amalfi as well as numerous independent cafes and vegetarian specialists It really is a foodies paradise!
Woodchester winery is a growing concern just 2 miles away and tours are sometimes available.
Nailsworth is situated on the A46 and easily reached from the M4 and A419 or the M5.
International airports are situated in Bristol, 37 miles away, Birmingham, 76 miles away and Heathrow, 93 miles away.
ACCESS AND FACILITIES
Guests can arrive at any time after 3pm with keys available on receipt of the access code. A welcome pack is supplied to get you started but local small stores are open 'till 10pm or later. (5 minutes walk away)
Gas heating and hot water is managed via a Hive system to ensure that the property is comfortable and ready for your arrival. We do not live in Nailsworth ourselves but are readily contactable by phone for any queries and the housekeeper lives locally.
The property is fully safety compliant with a current gas safety certificate, smoke alarms on all floors, CO detectors in the kitchen and lounge, a fire blanket and fire extinguishers on ground and first floors. All doors are compliant with fire safety regulations. There are window locks on first floor bedroom to protect young guests.
