Erins Cottage is perfect.

  • 4 of 5

This delightful cottage has it all. Jim and Karen had it filled with wonderful goodies, bathrobes,

a well stocked kitchen and a welcome sign over the fireplace. There is a lovely garden in

the back yard where you can sit and view the country side. About two ,miles to the city

center. A definite A+.

Charming cottage in good location.

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with the generous welcome pack which was very helpful. Comfortable bed and lounge. Pleasant dining area with view of the garden. The galley kitchen was a bit small but contained everything we needed including dish washer and washing machine. Excellent shower room.

Jim and Karen were very friendly. The location has easy access to bus routes but even better is the fact that the park and ride is only a few minutes away making access to Durham very easy.

Beautiful cottage in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

The photos are true, the cottage is really stunning. And well equipped too with true attention to detail. We’ve stayed in lots of cottages over the years, but never had all of these: a cutting board, a cafetière, proper knives, and a lemon squeezer. The generous welcome basket spared us an emergency shopping trip after a long drive. Jim was a lovely host who told us about the Kynren and the railway walks. There are plenty of running / walking / geocaching options straight from the cottage, on the other hand Durham is just a short drive away.

Not enough stars to rate this cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were overjoyed with our stay in Erin’s Cottage. It is compact , especially when it comes to the bathroom and kitchen, but so thoughtfully done to maximise use of space. The bedroom is a good size, the lounge room quite spacious. The kitchen, while small, is by far and away the best equipped I have encountered. The back garden is a delight and at the front, there was always parking. The place is spotlessly clean. And of course, there is the decor / slightly off-best and quirky, adding a touch of fun without being too cute.

Jim and Karen are delightful hosts, very generous in their provisioning, available with help and advice when needed, but never intrusive.

Without a doubt, our best cottage rental experience - my only complaint is that it spoils you for other places.

By the way, the location was a bonus for us - in the delightful small village of Sunderland Bridge, just a short drive into Durham or with a good and frequent bus service. So by staying here, you do get a sense of village life.

With its size and set-up, it is designed for one couple who can then enjoy all the pluses, like the dining alcove, the music system etc etc. Recommended unreservedly.

A little slice of paradise in the courtry, with easy access to the city!

  • 5 of 5

My stay at Erin's Cottage was better than I could have imagined (a little slice of paradise) and the price was right! This cottage is quaint, removed from the daily hustle and bustle of city life, and yet close enough to the bus route to navigate and go anywhere I needed to (Durham library, city center, rail station, restaurants, shopping, etc.). I downloaded the Arriva bus app and ticket which gave me a user friendly trip planner (though be sure to wave down the bus at the stop, otherwise they drive right by you!). Very reasonable weekly rates!

Upon my arrival, Jim greeted me and he would check in occasionally to see if I needed anything and brought clean linens. Karen provided great guidance on getting to the cabin from the airport (even offering to pick me up from the rail station). She also was kind enough to set me up with gluten free snacks, bread, eggs, milk, and other basics so I could rest after my long almost 2 day journey from the United States to Durham. With such things as a wonderful grocery delivery service (Tesco, which was very reasonably priced) and the amenities the cottage had ( a fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, and oven/grill/microwave), I could make my own meals, wash clothes, etc, also available were. dinner delivery services with accuses to more restarsunts than one could imagine (I used two: Just Eats - cash or British registered credit cards; and, Hungry House, which accepts all major credit cards no matter where you are from).

I needed a home away from home to work without interruption and this was the place! When suffering writers block, I could decompress by exploring the public path where I encountered beautiful scenery and grazing cows. I

f you are looking for a home away from home, especially if you crave the peace and serenity of the country - look no further! Thank you Jim and Karen, I plan to rebook when I come to Durham next year!
