Our beautiful Thatch Cottage has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms of which 5 are en-suite. It has a large, generous garden and borders protected woodland. The center-piece is the stunning, enclosed courtyard with plenty of seating, a large beautiful pool and an 8 person jacuzzi! The property has 2 fully equipped kitchens, a breakfast room, a barn area with dining for 22 people ideal for a celebration dinner. There are 2 wood burning stoves and the house has two lounge areas with large TV's with SKY Q and Xbox, which provides plenty of indoor entertainment. A fully equipped utility room with washing machine and dryer makes your holiday a pleasant experience.

We have a gorgeous garden chalet with a sun terrace that serves as a games room. The chalet has a professional 7 foot slate-bed pool table, darts and outdoor table tennis. We also provide outdoor games such as football, croquet and badminton for activities in the large, enclosed garden.

Please note the pool is open approximately May-September. The pool is heated by solar panels and air-source heat pump so the pool temperature is weather dependent. In July and August 2017 the temperature was a constant 28 C, but the average temperature drops as Autumn arrives. The Jacuzzi is hot all year.

In the enclosed courtyard you will find sofas, chairs and sun loungers. In the garden there are plenty of outdoor sitting and eating areas. The large, enclosed garden is an ideal playground for children and pets, and provides plenty of room for outdoor games. In the garden there is a beautiful fish pond with large mature Koi.

Kindly note that we have a minimum stay of 7 nights during the summer period. Shorter stays (minimum 3 nights) are possible from mid-October to mid-March, excluding the holiday season.

We have an on premise fully licenced pub serving local beer and other alcoholic beverages for the private use of our guests. Timo has a Personal Licence and will open and staff the pub by request. Please ask us for more details.

Being on the Dorset Hampshire border, you have access to lots of pub and restaurant possibilities. For fun family activities, Moors Valley Country Park and Avon Heath Country Park is less than 10 minutes drive away. The award winning Blue Flag beaches of Bournemouth and Poole are a 20 minutes drive away. The New Forest with charming Pubs and endless possibilities for walking, cycling and exploring is less than 10 minutes away by car! Follow the New Forest Taste Trails by bike, on foot or on hoof, sampling local ice creams, ploughman's lunches, cream teas and seafood along the way. Paultons Theme Park with Peppa Pig world and Lost Kingdom (Dinosaurs and rides) is also only 30 min away. The charming town of Salisbury and its medieval cathedral and the iconic prehistoric stone circle at Stonehenge is 20 miles away, making it perfect for a day trip!

About Susanna & Steven

We are Susanna and Steven and we are new owners of the Thatch Cottage. Timo, Steven’s son, runs the Thatch Cottage on a day-to-day basis.

Our family has worked in the self catering industry for over 35 years. We live only a 10 minutes drive away and we are onsite to welcome guests personally. We also supervise the changeovers and assist on any matters that may arise during your stay.

Why Susanna & Steven chose Wimborne

When we found the Thatch Cottage B&B in 2016 with its courtyard, heated pool, with many rooms, ensuite bathrooms and private on-premise pub, we knew we had found something special. We immediately fell in love with the place and decided to launch a large group and family holiday proposition. Over a year we painstakingly transformed the property to create a single large group holiday experience. Our vision was to create the perfect place for a get-to-gether with family and friends, blending a traditional English cottage with modern luxury. Central to the vision was a place where a large group of different ages could come together, providing rooms and space for everyone to be able to have their own space. We continue to invest in the property to continuously improve the holiday experience.

What makes this cottage unique

The centre-piece of the property is the luxurious courtyard which provides a real Mediterranean look and feel. You can find a 14 meter heated pool, an 8 person Jacuzzi and plenty of seating areas. The enclosed courtyard provides utmost privacy and it is a real suntrap that offers a wonderful relaxing area throughout the year.

The "Barn" provides dining for the whole party of 22. It opens directly on to the pool and terrace area.

At the back of the property we have additional terraces in Italian porcelain, with views into the spacious and enclosed private garden, which backs onto Conservation Woodland of mature oaks. The garden provides plenty of space for outdoor games and activities for children and adults. We also have a pond with 14 residential Koi fish!

Unique to the self catering market we offer an English pub which is opened for guests of the Thatch Cottage upon request. Timo who runs the day to day operations will be happy to serve you refreshing beer or wine at the bar or at the outdoor tables.

We have also invested in a Antigua cabin for the garden which houses a professional pool table - we have located this near to the pub to deliver another new focal point for the family holiday.

The Thatched Cottage was a perfect getaway for our annual MBA re-union. It was one of the best villas we have ever stayed in the UK so far and was “Generous” in every sense of the word.

Generous in Space – all of us (14 adults + 7 kids) fit in easily and we could have accommodated plenty more with ample parking space ;

Generous in Facilities – inviting pool (temperature regulated) ; enviable Jacuzzi (hot tub); ping pong table; 6-a side football ground ; fish pond ; Kinect and gaming zone ; lounge facility (theatre style) ; licensed bar with abundant supply of drinks at reasonable prices ; massive dining area to fit in 20+ group etc. etc. ;

and above all

Generous in Hospitality – we felt at home and were very well received and welcomed throughout our stay by Timo – the caretaker ; Gigi – the bartender cum chef who cooks delicious Italian dinner and the owners themselves who dropped in to check on us.

To sum it up, it was a brilliant getaway from the busy city life and we’d certainly book this property again. Needless to say, it’s a 5 star property and we’d highly recommend it !!

Suited what we needed.

We hired this property for an 80 th birthday celebration for the family . Age range 80 - 11years. It was ideal for what we wanted. Two oldies , 3 adult children and partners, 7 grandchilren and step granchildren. Plenty of activities for everyone. We need not have left the house and grounds at all. Like a private Center Parcs! I would not class this as five star however. There were some issues with maintenance which were dealt with efficiently. My biggest disappointment was the proximity to a busy road and the situation of the property in an urban area. There was more than adequate crockery etc but dinner plates that were too large prevented the dishwasher working properly. Take your tick remover! Two of the party were covered in them, one ending up in A&E.

Owner's Response: Dear Patricia, Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy you enjoyed your holiday and 80th Birthday celebration at the Thatch. However we are very sorry that the setting did not completely meet your expectations. The Thatch front door is set back 20 meters from Ringwood Road, which is a “B” road serving the much visited Moors Valley Country Park and the local towns of Verwood, West Moors. As such the road can get busy during morning and evenings, especially during the summer holiday season. We are a little surprised at the use of the word ‘urban’. The area is not densely populated, and has only one boundary with a neighboring property. We have 2 acres of beautiful gardens, including many mature oaks. The land adjoins dense woodland, which is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) i.e. a national conservation area for birds, fauna and flora. We are sorry to hear of your experience of ticks. The lawns around the Thatch are all mowed regularly and this is the first we have heard of a tick problem. We note the New Forest area is one of 8 places in the UK at higher risk for ticks. This is due to the abundance of heathland, dense forest, and many wild animals, and the hot weather has only made this worse. We understand you took several walks at Moors Valley Country Park, accompanied by your dog. There are warnings on Moors Valley Country Park website to take precaution against ticks. We advise all guests holidaying in the New Forest to take precautions to Ticks, as displayed on the many New Forest tourist websites. Thanks for the feedback on the plates for the dishwasher. Amazing Place to stay

We had a group of 18 people of all ages staying at the Thatched Cottage for 8 nights in June.

The weather was great which allowed us to make full use of the wonderful pool & hot tub with plenty of sunbathing around the terrace.

The pool table in the summer house was great and provided many hours of evening entertainment & competition.

The cottage itself was absolutely superb and we all agreed we could not have found anywhere better for our 50th Birthday gathering.

Timo was very helpful and would assist with anything that was required.

The Thatched Cottage is in an ideal location with a great pub down the road, close to the New Forest & only 20 minute drive in to Bournemouth.

We also took in the tour of the local Ringwood Brewery of which we would highly recommend if you like real ale !!

Overall would highly recommend the Thatched Cottage and would love to go back in the near future.

Fantastic long weekend

Just had a fantastic long weekend at the Thatch . Great property for a large family get together. Something for all ages ,loads of room and fortunately for us the weather was beautiful, so made good use of the pool. Would definitely recommend

We were blessed with beautiful weather so the pool was just an amazing addition to the house!

Before we even arrived Susanna was very helpful with any questions we had. Timo kindly met us at the house and gave us a tour before leaving us to settle in. The house and pool were beautiful and exactly what we needed for our large family holiday, with ages from 1yr-70yrs! We were incredibly lucky with beautiful weather, so made the most of the pool and hot tub area. There was plenty of space for all 19 of us to enjoy without feeling we were on top of each other. A couple of the rooms/bathrooms were a little dated but clean, spacious and served their purpose. The bbq was a great addition and we just loved the enormous dining table. We were even able to recreate a mid May Xmas day (we live around the country and it’s been a very long time since we had a Xmas day all together!). So many beautiful memories made, in a lovely location. I’d certainly recommend it and we plan to return in the future.
