About Lynn and Bill Taylor
We are both English working in the UK, in 1989 we visited Tuscany many times searching for a holiday home and eventually discovered a small house in the village of Irola. Villa Ariola is our second house here in the village. We had a building company in the UK for many years, and have renovated many properties, Villa Ariola took 14 months to complete, with carefully chosen Italian materials to compliment the style of the house. Every time we open the front door it never fails to wow us and even though we only get to enjoy the house in the winter Villa Ariola is part of us. It hurts to leave and we are always longing to be back. When we retire we will live in Italy permanently, until then we are able to share our villa with you!
Lynn and Bill Taylor purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Lynn and Bill Taylor chose Villafranca in Lunigiana
Lunigiana is known as undiscovered Tuscany we love waking up to the sunshine and beauty of nature. It is lovely to walk in the forest collecting wild herbs, fruits, nuts and mushrooms. We also enjoy the wildlife, the swallows, eagles, wild boar, deer, badgers and the fireflies at night. We never tire of the landscape it is so beautiful dramatic and completely unspoilt. We like to sit outside a bar and watch the world go by or go into town for lunch and shopping. Often we go for dinner to one of the excellent restaurants close by or down to the sea for the best fish restaurants anywhere on the Mediterranean. Florence Pisa and Lucca are close, all the major attractions of Tuscany within easy reach. But these days we tend not to travel far enjoying the Villa, pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen where we entertain friends with great BBQ's in the afternoon sun.
What makes this Villa unique
Villa Ariola is away from the hustle and bustle yet it is close to the beaches, the mountains, the main cities of Lucca, Florence and Pisa, and to all the essential facilities (supermarket, restaurants). It is your oasis. During the summer the Italians that are able leave the sea side and cities to the annual mixture of heat mosquitoes and tourists, they head for the hills where the air is cleaner cooler and calmer. We have written a comprehensive 'Guide for Guests' we describe the beaches recommend lots of restaurants, places of interest boat trips and scenic drives to help you get the very best from your holiday. “When in Rome do as the Romans do”

Fabulous week at Villa Ariola
We can't praise Villa Ariola highly enough - we spent a fantastic week relaxing up in the mountains of Tuscany. The villa is really a home from home, as soon as we arrived we felt welcome and relaxed. The village is very peaceful, we spent long days lazing in and by the pool, with only the sounds of the local wildlife to be heard.
Lynn was wonderful to deal with, communication was open and frequent right from when we made our booking and nothing was too much trouble. It was lovely to meet her at the property on our arrival.
The villa is well equipped and was spotlessly clean. The welcome pack of food is very generous and provides most of the things you'll need for the first couple of days of your stay. The bathrobes were a welcome addition for using the hot tub (another great feature of the villa!) as later in the season it can be a little chilly in the evening (relatively speaking , 30+ degrees in the daytime and probably 20 in the evenings!)
We loved our time at Villa Ariola, it was a real opportunity for total relaxation and we didn't want to leave, either during or at the end of our stay! We will certainly be back. Thank you so much Lynn and Bill for sharing your lovely house!
Gosh Susan and Mike
Thank you so much for a glowing review, it was also great to meet you both, I was really touched when you both hugged me when you where leaving, and used words like "it was all perfect" It would be our pleasure to welcome you back as you too were "perfect" guests and a delightful couple.
Next time you will meet Bill it was just unfortunate that he was in the UK.
With our very best wishes
Bill and Lynn

We had a great stay at Lynn and Bill’s villa. They are great hosts and made us feel very welcome, answered all queries and kept us informed of local events. Also, their wine is delicious! Very spacious and clean property. Great outdoor area with a luxurious feel and many different seating areas and shade. Large kitchen with everything you need.

Beautiful villa in Tuscany
Villa Ariola was absolutely amazing. We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect.
Owners Lynn and Bill were very friendly and helpful and they really made us feel welcome. Thank you Lynn and Bill!
We couldn't be more satisfied with this wonderful villa and hopefully we have a change to come back again someday.

Fabulous week at Villa Ariola
A wonderful week at Villa Ariola! We were well looked after by Lynn and Bill who were on hand for great tips of where to go, where to shop and appeared in an instant for minor house issues, they were lovely and made our stay very personal. The villa itself is wonderful especially the outdoor kitchen area and pool. The wood fired pizza oven was everything we hoped for and had some great meals roasting everything in the oven. The house is lovely, great air con in the bedrooms and kitchen well equipped. It was so hot the week we visited that we didn’t venture far but found the location more remote than other Tuscan areas we have visited in the past but given the heat it didn’t matter, we just maxed out on the villa facilities. We will most definitely consider coming back again in the future and highly recommend.
Thank you for your review Jaki. It was lovely to meet you Jason the girls and Ben. If you decide to visit Tuscany again we would be very happy to welcome you back to Villa Ariola.

The perfect Tuscan hideaway
We had the most wonderful stay at Villa Ariola. It was truly the most beautiful place we’ve ever stayed. All of the facilities are spotless, well-looked after and comfortable.
The location is stunning, a perfect “Tuscan hideaway”! The village of Irola Di Sopra is beautifully quaint whilst the surrounding mountain forests provide a beautiful backdrop to the garden. We were lucky to see wild boar and deer at dusk, and the night time display of fireflies was mesmerising.
Even before we arrived, property owners Lynn and Bill could have not been more helpful and friendly. The instructions to the property are perfectly clear and it’s an easy drive from Pisa airport.
The villa is immaculate and has everything you could ever need during the stay; all manner of cooking utensils and crockery, games, DVDs etc. The instructions to work/operate the kitchen and amazing outdoor facilities are very clear and the detailed guest book provides all the useful information you could need about the local area.
We could barely tear ourselves away from the poolside, but when we did we found plenty of things to do and places to see, all within an hours drive of the villa.
We can’t recommend Villa Ariola enough. Thank you Lynn and Bill for a perfect stay.
Dear Helen and Kieran
Thank you for the wonderful review, and thank you for the lovely card you left at the villa. It has been a pleasure from the beginning when you were planning your honeymoon.
Do come back someday.
Villa Ariola stands proud above all in the Tuscan village of Irola di sopra, near Villafranca in Lunigiana, a little known panoramic medieval hill village. Within the National Park this is a paradise for walkers and country lovers, at dawn and dusk it is possible to glimpse deer and wild boar as they venture from cover in search of food, or watch golden eagles and other rare birds as they soar above the hills and down the valleys. The nearest town is Villafranca just a 10 minute drive away, with good supermarkets, bars, shops, banks. A thriving market visits Villafranca on Friday & Pontremoli Wednesday and Saturday, mostly food stall's you will find a good selection of wonderful locally produced fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and salami. The villa is ideally situated 10 kilometres from the Autostrada with Pisa, Lucca, Florence, several beaches and the major attractions of Tuscany all within driving distance. Our guide for guests recommends local restaurants and vineyard.
