One of Sardinia's most beautiful medieval cities, Alghero is the main resort in the northwest.
The main focus of attention is the picturesque centro storico, one of the best preserved in Sardinia. Enclosed by robust, honey-coloured seawalls, this is a tightly knit enclave of shady cobbled lanes, Gothic palazzi and cafe-lined piazzas. Below, yachts crowd the marina and long, sandy beaches curve away to the north. Presiding over everything is a palpable Spanish atmosphere, a hangover of the city’s past as a Catalan colony. Even today, more than three centuries after the Iberians left, a form of medieval Catalan is still spoken, and street signs and menus are often written in both Catalan and Italian.
You will admire the walls, the towers once defence to the village, the palaces once private dwellings and beautiful churches. Staring from piazza Sulis, few steps from apartments, and center of the 'movida algherese' you will admire different towers Espero Roial,San Giacomo,Sant Elmo.. and among the towers the Bastioni, the palaces with wrought iron balconies spanish style, the narrow cobbled streets, the lighted little squares, the numerous restaurants and cafes which make the center unique and characteristic. On the background caribbean beaches, cliffs, Grotte, islands, ponds, and the sole little natural lake in Sardinia, the lake of Baratz. Capo Caccia is an amazing cliff on the sea which offers beautiful panorama. Along the coastline a sort of spontaneous vegetation grows such as the beautiful palm which characterizes the landscape. The man too has given his contribution to make the countryside more beautiful with vineyards and olive groves.
Due to strategic position, it is possible to visit the nearby villages Stintino,Bosa,Castelsardo by car or bus and the Coghinas hot water SPA at the foot of the hills that surround the valley of the lake Coghinas and the golf club (10 kilometers)or start from the port for a day trip to Asinara island or Grotte di Nettuno and more! FESTIVAL and EVENTS
In December, the city is decked out for Christmas: a large tree full of lights is erected in Piazza Porta Terra, where apartments are located and in all the streets and shops of Old Town shine the Christmas lights in all shapes and colors, and the city seems magical. Religious rites, beautiful cribs, concerts, shows, tastings, Santas, pipers with their music, create a warm Christmas atmosphere, while people walking with parcels and packages enlivening the streets of downtown.
Throughout the island and throughout the year there are numerous festivals which provide a good opportunity to see traditional costumes and local handicrafts.
Alghero’s Fertilia airport is 10 km northwest of town. It is 15 minutes by taxi or bus from apartment.

Tiziana Arianna M. purchased this apartment in 2001
The property is in a beautiful position, quiet little street and
very quiet bedroom even if located in the old town among craftsmanship shops, little restaurants, pubs, cafés. The bedroom has a sort of privacy located on the second level.
The holiday is not only sea, beach, nature. It is a cultural enrichment due to the beauty of the little old town heart.
An absolutely perfectly located apartment in a really beautiful town. Nothing is more than a few minutes walk away and there is an easy bus connection to the airport at Fertilia.
The apartment is really cosy, with a lovely mezzanine style bedroom and air conditioning etc. I'd have happily stayed there for a lot longer (and intend to return at some point).
This part of Sardinia has some stunning coastlines, especially in the North at Stintino. Plus, if you like fish, you will eat like a king here. Save the pennies and get yourself some lobster one evening, you won't regret it!
We throughly enjoyed our 4 nights stay in what turned out to be the Sweet Home Amethyst apartment rather than the Sweet Home Alghero apartment we had booked 4 months earlier. Despite email communication with Tiziana a couple of days before we arrived, when she told us we would now be met by Valeria rather than Francesca, we were not told about the change of apartment until we arrived. Valeria told us the previous tenants had left behind some sort of water problem so Tiziana was offering us another apartment.
The Amethyst apartment was across the street from our original apartment. It appeared to have much the same excellent layout and high level of comfort plus it had the added advantage of a second bathroom upstairs.
The apartments are in a great location. The one we stayed in was very comfortable, had a reasonable level of light given the charming but narrow street, everything worked very well and joy oh joy the air conditioners were quiet. And Valeria was charming, reliable and very helpful.
As is clear from the photos, the colour scheme of the Amethyst apartment is predominantly lilac and lavender, which wasn't to our taste so wouldn't have been the apartment we'd have chosen ourselves. A couple of other quibbles - the sheets were worn and very rough - unusual in an apartment at this price level. And it was a bit of a problem for us that the apartments don't have wifi. Unlike in other parts of Sardinia, a lot of the restaurants and bars in Alghero did not have free wifi that our iPhones/iPads could connect to, but after trying for a while we did find a few.
Tiziana & Francesca provide a great service & a lovely place to explore Alghero & the rest of Sardinia from. The apartment is in a fantastic location and if you have a car during your stay you'll find free parking just around the corner. The old town of Alghero is beautiful & we stayed in the heart of it all.
The apartment is small but was great for the two of us & we had all that we needed to make our stay very comfortable there.
I would definitely recommend Alghero & Tiziana's place for a relaxed Sardinian holiday and if you can go out of season, you'll enjoy the quieter streets & the better prices!
We booked this apartment for 9 weeks while workingin the area. I have to say abig thankyou to Tiziana for making this a very special stay for us. From the moment we booked the property Tiziana was most helpful supplying us with information about Alghero and its surrounds. The apartment itself is beautifully situated in the centre of "the old town" , close to the bus stop which services the airport . There are plenty of choices for restaurants close by as well.
The apartment has all that you need;a nice kitchen complete with dishwasher(important!) too.
Tizianas manager, Francesca was also very helpful and professional as well. We'll definitely be staying here when we return to Alghero again!
Our holiday experience was fantastic because of the excellent level of service coupled with the standard of accommodation offered.
From the first email enquiry it became apparent that Tiziana, the owner of the property was dedicated to ensuring her guests got the most out of their stay in Sardinia. Lots information and suggestions were sent so we could research and decide how to plan. I’ve seen good examples of customer service many times on my travels but this really was up there with the very best and so pleasing to see.
The location of the accommodation is simply superb, it’s in the very heart of Alghero’s old town with all the atmosphere you would expect from a traditional Italian street, neighbours chatting from their shuttered windows while hanging out the washing! The smells from the bakery and the restaurant below and children’s laughter while playing, brilliant!
The apartment itself has a real charm and had everything we needed for our 2 week stay. The mezzanine deck is a nice touch and so are the skylights, I enjoyed looking at the stars from the very comfortable bed. Although we didn’t do much cooking there was everything there that we needed on the couple of occasions we decided to eat in. The chicken shop on the corner is also recommended if you need something to snack on.
Francesca the lady who services the apartments was very helpful and managed to direct us to the best sandwich café in the town which we used many times with a glass of beer after the nice walk from the beach, thank you Francesca!
There is no point recommending places to visit as Tiziana is the expert so it just leave us to say that we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this place for anybody seeking a true taste of Alghero.
We stayed in appartment b in the old town and really enjoyed our stay. It is quiet though you are in the middle of the town with all the restaurants and shops and not far away from the beautiful beaches. The appartment ist cozily furnished and clean. The little kitchen is equipped with everything you need.
Tiziana and her friend in Alghero were very helpful an well organized.
We would love to come back!
Sardinia is in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The coast line is rich of beautiful, sandy beaches. Also the mountain area is fascinating and there are many nice towns and villages with festivals and folklore displays. There are more than 700 Nuraghes, stone towers and villages built during the 18'-15' centuries. Alghero is the most ancient heart in Sardegna, where the sea is caribbean-like. It is one of the most beautiful areas of Sardinia, a fortress on the sea.
Alghero's golden sea walls, built around the centro storico by the Aragonese in the 16th century, are a highlight of the town's historic cityscape. Running from Piazza Sulis in the south to Porta a Mare and the marina in the north, they are crowned by a pedestrianised path that commands superb views over to Capo Caccia on the blue horizon. Restaurants and bars line the walkway, providing the perfect perch to sit back and lap up the holiday atmosphere. Its bay is a protected marine park 'Parco Marino di Porto Conte' where you can see the dark-red coral and lots of fish. Alghero, a village interlaced of architecture, nature, history, is full of wonderful sights .You can go for a walk, admire beautiful sunsets and interesting hist places, relax on beautiful beaches, and do sports: riding, swimming, biking, cave-diving, snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving, etc. This is ideal to those who do not like feeling isolated but wish the peace , far from the big cities. Alghero is the best starting point to visit places such as Stintino, Bosa, Castelsardo and its climate is pleasant. The apartment has the possibility to rent bikes at home and cycle as far as beautiful beaches among sea pines and eucaliptos. Do not miss nuraghe Palamavera at Fertilia and Necropolis of Angelo Ruiu on the road to Porto Ferro .Both sites date back to the nuragic and prenuragic eras and offer an interesting contrast to the magnificent beaches and coves around the region, Grotte di Nettuno, Neptun Caves, under Capo Caccia, a limestone headland ranging from 170m at the cape to 300 m at P.Cristallo. You can reach the grotte from Alghero harbour by boat or from the summit of Capo Caccia by a stairway of 656 steps called the Escala del Cabirol which was built in the year 1954 and descends the spectacular sheer cliff face to the entrance of the cave.underground lakes and stalactites and stalagmites.
A good public transport system in town will allow you to visit the neighborhood if you like exploring the area
Intercity buses stop at and leave from Via Catalogna, by the Giardini Pubblici. Buy tickets at the ticket office in the gardens.
Up to 10 daily buses run to Sassari, where you can pick up connections to destinations across the island. There are also buses to Porto Torres and Bosa.
There are no direct links with Olbia. Instead you have to travel via Sassari.
