A Very Satisfactory House in most ways with wonderful views and well heated in the cold weather.

  • 4 of 5

We were mother and stepdaughter with 2 teenagers and there was plenty of room in the reception areas. TV with all the channels much appreciated. I had lots of room in the double room with ensuite but that left the 3 others in a more confined area of the house sharing the small 2nd bathroom. Not ideal really.

One of the upper kitchen cupboards was broken and the door was very heavy to hold up and wedge back and should have been repaired before our arrival. Under the sink smelled unpleasantly damp; there was a slight leak from somewhere as the shelf was a bit wet. No instructions for the cooker so we rang the housekeeper, left message on her mobile and never received a reply. Good job we weren't planning to cook Christmas dinner in it as it took us 2 days to find out how it worked!

In winter in particular guests need to be warned that the lane up to the house is in fact accessible despite the channel of water running down the middle; very daunting when you arrive in the dark. A torch is essential to go to the pub at night.

Otherwise a really lovely place to stay which requires just a bit more tlc if guests are to feel the cost is warranted.
