Great location near beach and within easy cycle of Ouistreham.
This is a holiday home now lived in by the owners and vacated for lettings. The house is fairly basically equipped but with lots of space and beds. There are one or two things missing which would usually be expected for a property in this price range such as internet provision, proper shower (rather than just an attachment on the bath taps), dishwasher, oven and a kettle.
The owners were difficult to contact by phone, and as there was no internet at the house it was difficult to use email. We had booked for 6 nights but had to leave a day early due to a family illness in UK. We texted the owners but heard nothing. As we were leaving, a day early, they turned up to move back in - they thought we had booked for 5 nights even though all the emails had quoted 6 nights and the price was calculated on that basis. At the time of writing we don't know what we have paid.
The house was not as clean as we expected and we were a little surprised to be shown all the cleaning implements on arrival, with the definite impression that we would be expected to clean the property before vacating - once again, for this price (which included a service charge of 122 euros) not really fair.
The location is great. Ouistreham is a 2 mile cycle ride away along the sea front. The town is bustling with good cafes and restaurants, lots of shops, supermarket, market - all unusual and individual. Very few non-French tourists which was nice as it had a very good ambience.
It is possible to cycle for miles in either direction and take in the D-Day beaches (the British and Canadian ones - the American ones are further West), Pegasus bridge and the villages and towns along the coast. Lots of places to eat - all do really good seafood.
Bayeux, Arromanches and Caen are all within easy driving distance. The roads are not busy and the countryside is attractive and varied.
Overall very nice. We think this is the first time the owners have let their house.
The owners do not speak much English so be prepared to establish communications in as many ways as possible so at least one way works!
