Beautuful apartment. Convenient location. The best host ever!
We stayed at Mariana'n'Stelios for 7 nights. The apartment itself is beautifully designed with two large terraces opposite from each other for morning and afternoon sun. The terraces have views of the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. In a climate like Cretan, it's particularly nice to spend time outside, so we would lounge or have dinner on the terrace.
The kitchen is equipped with anything you would need, including a fancy electric stove, oven, juicer, blender and even a bread-maker. The apartment is 5 min walk from the food market, so we'd buy local fish and either fry it or bake it or grill it. It's at least 3 times cheaper than having the same fish at a restaurant but double the fun.
It's worth mentioning that the owner, Thodoris, who is an architect, designed the apartment himself. And you can tell there was a lot of thought put into it. For example, the way the floor-to-ceiling doors open in the living room, it allows for a very pleasant breeze in the entire apartment. As a result, we did not use the AC at all, which is great as we are not particularly fond of ACs, fresh air is so much better.
The upstairs bedroom got a little too hot but only one day when the outside temperature was very high. That room might benefit from an individual AC for occasional use.
In addition to the market mentioned earlier, within walking distance are: old town with hundreds of shops and restaurants, the old Venetian Harbor, a beach, and supermarkets. The location was perfect as everything was so close, including car rental, bus stations, pharmacies, doctor's office.
What made the stay extra special for us, is the owner, Thodoris. He is the most kind and attentive host. Every morning we'd find a box of various fruits outside of our door, a very nice touch. He also lives in the same building, so any questions we had, he was there to help us! The day before our flight back, my son didn't feel very well so Thodoris helped us find a doctor and even came with us in case a translator was needed. I mean, how many hosts would do that?
We would recommend this place to anyone and we also hope one day to return to this beautiful apartment and experience again the leisurely Cretan lifestyle at its finest.
Lovely apartment, great host
This is a large airy apartment with comprehensive facilities. There were only three of us but it accommodates more.
The location is ideal if you want to visit the old town and harbour as it is very close to both and plenty of restaurants nearby.
The apartment is in a block where the family live and when I say family I mean extended family. There are a number of flats occupied by relatives and a couple of Longer term rents (students). This apartment has the whole of the third floor whereas some of the other floors have two apartments.
There are two bedrooms both of which are comfortable. The air conditioning downstairs is good but some support from a fan is needed upstairs. My daughter stayed upstairs but felt that the bed was too soft but was of good quality. Downstairs it was fine.
The two balconies make the outside space very useable and the one next to the kitchen is delightful to have breakfast on. The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher.
It was great to have a washing machine and the other balcony gave plenty of drying space.
WFI strong, it stopped one day but Thodoris sorted it straight away after we reported it. TV has a lot of options including Netflix so if you don’t mind the Greek subtitles plenty to watch.
Thodoris is very accommodating. He is on hand or contactable by text whenever.
Fruit was delivered to our doorstep on a daily basis which was great but a bit too much for us three. It was fun to open the door and see what was the fruit of the day.
It must have been difficult to find different fruit for the number days we were there.
Thodoris is currently developing the rooftop space and it is really taking shape. It is useable and has lovely views.
Really enjoyed meeting his Mum downstairs and having ice cream at hers.
Although close to the main tourist area it is not touristy and as a result you feel part of the community. It feels really safe and you can leave doors open without fear.
Marianna n' Stellios fantastic apartment in Chania in a super location with an amazing owner
HI, we are four adults who recently returned from a fantastic 8 day stay in Marianna n' Stelios apartment in Chania. First off, this review needs to start with the superb hospitality provided by the owner Benakis who was so generous to us. When we arrived Benakis, invited us to the harvesting of his grapes at his vineyard the following day which was a fabulous gathering of his friends and family and which we absolutely loved - picking grapes and figs, being wined and dined and even some Greek dancing ! What a memory !
Mn'S is a fabulous apartment with 2 amazing balconies (one balcony has a barbeque, table to seat about 8 people, sofa, sunbeds and lovely shaded canopy; second balcony has large table also and lovely sun umbrella) which gives very good sun and shade at different times of the day. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could wish for and everything about the apartment was of exceptional quality.
Benakis, had lots of fruit in the fridge and a lovely bottle of wine for us on arrival and on several occasions left us boxes of fruit on our doormat - so generous and what a lovely surprise for us !
The location is just on the edge of the old town of Chania, which is truly a lovely place. There are many restaurants to choose from, and it is a very nice walk through the cobbled streets down to the seafront (about 5 mins). We didn’t get hassled once by anyone trying to drag us into their bar or restaurant. There is a lovely sandy beach, Nea Chora, which is about 30 mins walk away with sunbeds/umbrellas and lovely restaurants and where we spent a nice few days chilling out and swimming.
We were there for the last week in August and enjoyed every minute. We were made to feel extremely welcome by Benakis and his host Chris. Special thanks also to Benakis’ Mum Mary for her lovely cherry and chocolate homemade treats.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone and we will be coming back again.
Mary and friends, we did the least. Thank you for all the references to MnS and o us all. You are always welcome. The new wine -you work for... as a slave!!- is going to wait for you to taste.
