best location ever
I've rented a lot of apartments in Italy over the years, and this one scores high on the list: spacious, airy, surprisingly quiet, and beautiful views. Traffic noise is almost nil; the inhabitants of Chiavari must be oddly healthy and not accident-prone, because despite having a dozen ambulances parked outside the window, we never heard a single one over our 8-day stay. The most noise we had from the ambulance station were the paramedics having a laugh. We woke up to birdsong and went to sleep to peace and quiet.
For someone like me who travels to cook, the food shopping within 5 minutes' walk (or less) from the apartment was unbeatable: not only the daily produce market (open every morning plus all day Saturday, and only closed Sunday), but the fish market, more bakeries and butcheries than you can shake a stick at, two fresh pasta makers, a top-quality deli, even an old-fashioned tripe shop. Plus a well-stocked supermarket and anything else you can think of. The apartment's kitchen is pretty well equipped, as long as you're not cooking for a crowd: there's the usual battery of holiday-rental non-stick (I'm not a fan), but also a few decent stainless steel and enamel pots and pans. While the apartment itself was extremely clean, some of the dishes, cutlery, etc. were not, which is why I gave 4/5 for cleanliness: I suppose some people don't know how to wash dishes by hand any more and can't get by without a dishwasher. This was only the most minor of issues, though.
All in all, I miss this apartment: the birdsong, the warm focaccia for breakfast (try the bakery near the church a few steps down from the apartment and to the right), the high ceilings and tall windows with the curtains blowing in the breeze, the view of gardens and olive groves and distant hills from the bedroom and bathroom windows. We'd go back in a second, and probably will.
Excellent location for visiting the area. Within walking distance of the station.
We had a lovely week in Chiavari visiting Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Really easy using the ferry and the trains, both within easy walking of the apartment. Also there were plenty of restaurants nearby and the daily market was excellent.
The apartment was very well equipped and we enjoyed having our apertivos on the balcony overlooking the town. It was very quiet, except for the Red Cross Ambulance Centre opposite but it was rarely any bother.
The apartment is advertised as two bedrooms but the second bedroom has a sofa bed, which would be small for a couple and no wardrobe or provision for hanging clothes. It wasn't a problem for my friend and I but we felt it would be a bit of a squeeze for two couples. Everything was spotlessly clean.
We appreciated the welcome and the help we had from Stefano who greeted us as Laura was not able to be there.
Amazing time in Chiavari
We spent 10 days elsewhere and then 7 nights here in August. Wish we had spent longer here. The apartment is in a good location, being close to local amenities with the supermarkets, bakery etc within a few minutes walk. The apartment was clean and had everything you needed in terms of cutlery, crockery and towels. Enjoyed sitting on the balconies with a bottle of beer in the evening. As for the host, Laura, she was lovely. Met us at the train station and took us to the apartment, even coming back in the car to pick the hubby up with the big suitcase. Laura organised 4 bicycles for us, which we had plenty of use out of, cycling down to Lavania beach and along the riverside. Laura is an amazing and interesting person and we feel privileged to have spent an evening with her and her family. Wouldn't hesitate to come back. Chiavari is a lovely authentic Italian town with original architecture which has a good selection of bars, restaurants, and shops with a relaxjng feel about it. Recommend the daily morning fruit and veg market and a wander around the big market on Fridays. No need for a car, travel by train as it is easy, cheap and reliable. Whilst here we visited Rapallo (cable car a must), Camogli (beautiful fishing village with beach) and Sestri Levante (pretty but busy). Thank you Laura for being an amazing and helpful hostess which made our holiday all the more enjoyable.
It has been a real pleasure hosting Samantha, her husband David and their two lovely kids. They are very kind and interesting persons, who left the apartment clean and in perfect condition, even leaving an air mattress and a beach umbrella as a gift for the house. Being myself on holiday in my hometown, we spent a really enjoyable evening in the garden my family owns just in front of the building where the apartment is, getting to know each other. Just like an ancient Chinese saying goes: “Fate brings people together no matter how far apart they may live.”
The appartment is very well situated and perfectly calibrated to accommodate 4 adults.
The appartment is located in the center of Chiavari, in a very quiet area, close to everything, including a market, traditional shops and restaurants. It is very confortable, with two quiet bedrooms, and a living room united with a functional kitchen. It was very nice to have a drink in the evening on the small balcony opening towards the city, or to contemplate the hills of Chiavary from the terrasse complementing the two bedrooms. All the facilities, including the internet connection, worked very well. Our host was prompt and friendly in answering all the questions we had, supplying also many helpful touristic advices. We spent a very nice holiday in a charming small city where we could get a sense of traditional Italian life.
Chiavari is located in the Gulf of Tigullio, halfway between Genoa and La Spezia; From here you can easily reach by car or train beautiful and famous places such as Camogli, Portofino and Cinque Terre.
