About this property

Thresher's House : Stone Built in a Private Estate with Great Views and Privacy

This traditional stone-built property benefits from awe-inspiring vistas and wonderful secluded grounds; an ideal hideaway for those seeking a slower, more peaceful pace.

Well appointed above the hamlet of Porta and surrounded by greenery, the charm of the villa inside is the attention to detail throughout, with antiques and beamed ceilings adding unique character to the ambience. There is a large veranda at the front of the house. This spot is perfect for lunches in the shade, with a simple table and chairs and several pots of flowers and herbs.
A few steps down, the infinity pool is a magnificent turquoise colour.
With plenty of room to spread out, little terraces and patios operate on different levels within the grounds. Clearly delineated with stones is the original ‘thresher’s floor’ where horses or donkeys walking in a continuous circle would separate the grain from the chaff by crushing it on the hard surface.
Ideal for breakfast, the main balcony that runs along the living area looks out to a glorious panorama of the Albanian mountains and the verdant hillsides that drop down to the Ionian Sea.
Double French windows in the living area give light and an air of spaciousness to the interior. Comfy sofas cluster around the fireplace, and an elegant dining area is enhanced with dainty lace curtains filtering in the sunshine.
A twin bedroom, decorated with pretty floral curtains and bedcovers, also has a fireplace.
Another twin and a double bedroom (master bedroom) share the balcony that runs along the main area of the house, in prime position to enjoy the stunning sunrise.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat
Wonderful Villa in the mountains with glorious views. Aristides was very attentive and a great host Only downside is getting there. Be sure to take the long route that Aristide gives and do not use Satnav as it will take you left and a supermarket with a small sign saying P Sines which is entirely wrong and leads to an impassable ascent for anything but a land rover! Do not take the first option either as this is very steep. Take the longest option. It will tell you to take a left towards the sign for Porta. Just below the sign is a small sign indicating Thresher House. The turn is on a bend just before a big yard selling logs (on the right) about 2km from kassiopi. Once you have gone left follow the road for 5km up the mountain to Thresher House. Do not deviate and follow any other signs. Once you are there it is bliss!

A nature lover's paradise
Thresher's house is a wonderful getaway from the stresses of the world, especially so in the midst of a global pandemic! Myself, my wife and four friends had a excellent week enjoying the house and it's environs immensely. The house is very well equipped with three spacious bedrooms (two en-suite), very large kitchen./ lounge with high ceilings and numerous outdoor eating spots (at least 5!). The satellite internet works well - several of our group had to work remotely but there was no great issue - just a slight lag due to the satellite connection. The views from the house are wide and magnificent, with clear view over to Albania. The garden is lush and there are walnut trees, pomegranates, as well as grapes which you are free to enjoy. There are many good walking routes around the house with the long distance 220km Corfu Trail passes through. You can walk to Mount Pantokrator (highest peak in Corfu at 910m) from here, as well as the charming Old Perithia (around 2 hours away). The weather was not great the week we were there and a storm affected the power and water to the house for one day but Aristidis worked hard to restore it and kept us well informed throughout. The house is 500m up and the roads are pretty windy and narrow, this might not be for everyone but I found them fun! There's nothing around and you will need a car but Kassiopi is only 15 mins away with many shops and restaurants. There are plenty of nice beaches nearby too. All in all thoroughly recommended and we'd love to return sometime for another relaxing holiday.

Why they chose this property

This house was built by my grandfather during the 1930s.
In this house used to live my father as a child. The house was completely renovated in the year 2000 and since then is rented for holiday and leisure.

What makes this property unique

Original stone built house with a lot of open space and gardens around it. Unique view to North East Corfu, the North Corfu channel and the coast of Albania.
