We were a party of 6, maximising the villa’s capability. The villa is set in an olive grove on a hill overlooking the bay and town, the rear of two in common ownership (but well separated). We were met at the ferry by the owner who is very pleasant. She and her father took us up the hill and explained how things worked. We didn’t need to contact her again but she did call just before we left. Accommodation as described. Nice balcony with vines over. Living room/kitchen/hall not large but quite adequate even for 6. Upstairs is open around the stairs with 2 single beds and a seating area. Furniture and equipment looked newish and all adequate. There is a knack to the oven – we had to get the maid to show us! Washing machine was a bonus. Air con cooled open areas but not the double bedrooms. Window mosquito screens a bit flimsy and difficult to operate and the one in the living area was already broken. WiFi worked fine. The maid was v pleasant and thorough. Reasonable sized pool - v clean.
It takes about 20 mins to walk into town; a bit longer coming back as the hill is quite steep in parts! Note, with that and steps to enter, this particular villa would be a big ask for a person with mobility issues. Skopelos town is delightful with lots of alleyways, churches and brightly painted houses. Tavernas all over town with some of the posher, more creative ones high up. We liked the last one on the front right round the port under the church – old style with the food out in display counters; good quality; sensible prices. Some of the others on the front in town seemed higher priced and many are just bars. There is one taverna at the bottom of the hill on the way to town which halves the walk; we used it several times; the food was good and staff friendly. Be aware the beaches in easy walking distance are not exciting. We hired a car part of our time to get to beaches, the monasteries, the “Mama Mia” church (Ag Ioannis which is lovely) and Glossa. Some of the beaches have bars pumping out music – which may appeal to some but not us! – so look around for the beach that suits you best.
Overall – good value for 6 people, not luxuriously appointed but pleasantly functional and perfectly satisfactory; feels like you are in the country but walkable to all the facilities of the town. We like to visit different Greek islands but Skopleos is so delightful we may go back some day and would be v happy staying in V Natalia again if we did.
Do not compare Skiathos to Skopelos! Both islands are so different. But if you should compare: Skopelos is pure, nature, beauty, discovery, real fish restaurants, rest and holiday at the best. But we had the luck to stay in a luxury home with everything we needed. In the middle of all the best beaches and attractions and we could walk every night to the town to eat in the best restaurants. The owners are more than friendly and very helpfull, you will miss nothing: big and comfortable beds, big kitchen and salon, nice terrace and pool! We would love to go back surely.
Villa Meropi: Very nice house with lots of space. A wonderful view of the port of Skopelos and a great pool at the house. Ideal base to explore the island or to walk into town.
Katherine and her family have welcomed us very friendly with a surprise package. We love to come back again.
