Cat and I are your co-hosts. We’ve been married for twenty years and have two children aged eight and five. We’ve been professional landlords and property managers for fifteen years and understand the importance of cleanliness and professionalism. Catherine and I have lived and travelled all over the world: I’ve lived in India, Japan and Taiwan and travelled to Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, United States, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and Columbia. Catherine is originally from Taiwan and has travelled to Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Mexico and the Philippines where we both met on the island of Palawan. We love travelling and meeting new people although bringing up two small children has made travel more difficult these last few years.
Julie purchased this Apartment in 2001
Why Julie chose Old Toronto
We bought the house without knowing much about it because we were new to Toronto. The house was in bad shape when we got it. It was our realtor who insisted the house was a good buy because of its location. And HE WAS SO RIGHT!!! Rob had spend nearly 3 years to made the house back into its shape and did another big reno for the basement too with underpinning. And this is why this basement apartment is so great because its 8 ft ceiling & waterproof constructions. This has make the apartment absolutely moisture free .
What makes this Apartment unique
The house is right in the heart of all the exciting neighborhoods. If you go North, you will have Annex & Korean town witch is about 10 mins walk. And if you go West, the most famous Little Italy is just at the corner. About 5 mins walk. The Chinatown / Kensington market is at South East side witch is 10 mins to Kensington market, Chinatown is about 15 mins. U of T is also about 15 mins walk. And if you like Indian food, just board the College streetcar which take you about 30 mins and it will take you to Little India. Lots of traditional Indian food and sweets. This is a apartment will provides you personal vacation choices which will help you to enjoy your vacation more

Although small, it was well laid out, clean and well equipped for sleeping and preparing meals. The central location made it easy to walk to many venues in downtown Toronto. The property manager was pleasant and easy to contact for any questions.
Exactly as pictured...
The apartment looks exactly as it is pictured, however I do wish there was a photo of the outside. When we first pulled up, we were greeted with 5 cans of oil on the lawn and some sharp instruments - I guess just for people to help themselves, as we saw people eyeing them and one disappeared with each day we stayed until they were eventually gone. Not a great first impression. To get down to the basement it is very narrow, which is okay if you only have small bags but with a big suitcase, and small carry on case, it took some maneuvering. Inside the apartment had everything you could possibly need, so no problems whatsoever. The bathroom would be the only place that could use a makeover, everything else was nice. Little Italy is a lovely area with sooo many restaurants. Normally when I rent apartments, the hosts will greet me on arrival or send a welcome message asking if I settled in okay. I didn't receive this - I haven't made up my mind if this is a good or bad thing... Also I'm not too sure how soundproofed the apartment is, as I was woken up every morning from people walking (sounded like stomping) in the apartment upstairs.
CLEAN & Well outfitted
Could use fans or A/C-heat in the two bedrooms
Great location -- a few issues
We stayed at this property for my family's reunion. Overall, it was a good property and great location, being very close to Little Italy, Chinatown, Kensington, a local grocery store, and the trams. Julie also was very responsive when we noticed that the floors were not clean at our arrival.
However, there were a few issues with the property:
- The water pressure is quite low initially for the bathroom sink and shower, but does increase as the hot water kicks in
- On our last night, the tenant above us was playing music until 4:30 AM, which was quite disruptive despite the sound insulation mentioned in the listing. FYI you can hear the traffic on Bathurst, which is a major street.
- We had booked the property in part given that there are toys available upon request. I followed up on this when we arrived, and I received a message that they were going to be dropped off, but they never materialized
Wonderful basement apartment that doesn’t feel like a basement.
Thank you Julie for the wonderful accommodations you have. We enjoyed everything and would stay here again.
Excellent location, extremely clean and comfortable
Our family has a great stay at this property! Two adults and our 14 and 10 year old boys. They were especially happy about the TV with YouTube and Netflix. We were especially happy with the location and all of the restaurants and activities within walking distance of the apartment. We walked from the apartment to the Royal Ontario Museum. We walked and explored the University of Toronto. We ate at several excellent restaurants on College. The apartment was super clean and had everything we needed. And the owners offered free parking!!
The house is right between the most exciting neighborhoods.
So there are always lots of Cafe, shopping, music ( pedestrian Sunday in Kensington market), Patios, restaurants, Unique shops on Queen St., and Little Italy, Chinatown, Korean town, Annex, so many exciting area for our visitors to explore!!! And all of those area are all in walking distance.
