Low path via del Garda: From Salò to Limone
The route of the Bassa Via del Garda, dedicated to Roberto Montagnoli, great admirer and promoter of these areas, has been designed to make known and appreciate the extraordinary alternation of landscapes and environmental situations that allow you to walk among agaves, palms and olive trees or beech trees secular, gentians and crocuses, only a few hours walk from each other.
It will be possible to be enveloped in the scent of jasmine in summer or that of cyclamens in autumn; cross craggy cypress hills or climb among rocks, ravines and thrilling cliffs in every season.
Along ancient mule tracks with the pavement dug through the centuries by wagons and sledges pulled by animals, stopping near the severe walls of the lemon groves, visiting quiet villages and solitary hermitages, the magic of jumping backwards in time can take place.
The path of the Bassa via del Garda which winds its way along roads and paths at altitudes between 100 and 900 meters, is to be covered over several days crossing the various municipalities that divide Salò da Limone.
Pastry from Salò to San Michele
The trail starts near the Carmine Church (very nice, to visit if open) not far from the bus stop.
Follow the suggestive path of the Pinewood and the via S. Bartolomeo then, following the red and white directions of the CAI, path n. 17, you arrive at the foot of the Pinewood where, from a pitch along the river, the actual path begins. (the place can also be reached by car along Via del Seminario).
Go up towards San Bartolomeo along the slopes of the mountain of the same name between the thick pinewood with suggestive views of the Gulf of Salò.
At a height of 350 meters is a particular geological conformation called Corna, panoramic point par excellence, suitable for taking panoramic photos of the Gulf. (From Salò alla Corna about 1 hour)
Continuing east on the path that, first on the ground below the rocks, then steeply uphill, leads to the road below the church of the village of San Bartolomeo (528 meters) where you can stop in the shade of the horse chestnut tree next to the church.
The route continues northwards between oaks and black hornbeams, where you can see the expanses of Mount Pizzocolo.
When you reach the La Stacca Pass, go down to the Serniga hamlet and go through a beautiful shaded path to San Michele
Walk to Salò - Madonna del Rio
From Piazza Vittorio Emanuele Il, going up the "holy staircase", you will reach the western Gardesana to follow for a short stretch to the left, reaching the junction for Renzano marked by a beautiful and solitary cypress.
The road climbs through meadows and olive groves, crosses the village of Renzano and heads straight towards the Madonna del Rio paved and level.
Tradition has it that the sanctuary was erected in the eighteenth century on the site of an apparition of the Madonna in a cave dug into the Rio, where, on a white stone, he would have left the footprint.
A suggestive avenue of olive trees points to the bridge that, after passing the "Rio",
allows access to the churchyard of the church.
From this rises, immediately to the right, the road called "la Strinada", which, in a succession of valleys and valleys, shaded and not particularly demanding, turns out to be an excellent walk even in the hottest periods.
Behind the church a path in the woods leads to a cascade of water, rather high and little more than a veil of water that with the spray maintains a humid atmosphere from a cave that keeps the moss and honeysuckle green.
Journey time: 1 hour and 30 min. about
Walk of Madonna del Rio - Passo la Stecca
The Madonna del Rio, can also be reached by car and where there is also a parking lot.
Cross the river on the wooden bridge, take the path to the right of the church that runs along the right side of the valley of the Madonna del Rio up to Bagnolo, passing on the mule track to the localities Milordino and Milord.
In the first part of the route the path crosses a large landslide that for some tens of meters makes it difficult to pass in the deep sinuous red-gray canyon that looks like a close-up of a Colorado Canyon, but then the landscape changes and is enriched by some home, pasture clearing, a dense forest and centuries-old chestnut trees along the western ridge of Mount San Bartolomeo near the Valley of the Madonna del Rio.
From the sanctuary of the Madonna del Buon Consiglio of Bagnolo (XVI century to 495 m) passing under the church's portico and crossing the Gnes property, bounded by open gates, you can easily reach the Stacca pass.
The pass, in addition to offering a beautiful view of the lake, is the crossroads of the four paths that come from Serniga, S. Bartolomeo, Renzano and Bagnolo.
Journey time: 1 hour and 30 min. about.
