About Pam Booth

Originally from Montreal and Ottawa, we moved to this lovely home 16 years ago. We fell in love with the area, the slower pace of life and the friendly people. It is an amazing place to live with so many things to do and see. Over the years, we spilt a lot of sweat and tender care into completely renovating this 19th century home. Presently, we are on a work hiatus. While we are away, we would like you to enjoy our home and make it yours to create great memories that will last a lifetime.

a well maintained cottage, with all the amenities, near beautiful beaches on PEI's East Coast

  • 5 of 5

Suffice it to say that this was our second stay at this property, and we enjoyed it every bit as much as last year. It is a 1,200 mile drive from where we live, but worth it to enjoy PEI's beautiful beaches, wonderful seafood, and peaceful, unspoiled landscape. Let me add a positive word about John, the helpful property manager, who was a great source of knowledge about the local area.

Perfect Spot, Even Better Than It Appears

  • 5 of 5

Red Road Cottage is a tastefully renovated farm house on a large property. It sits far enough from the road to be quiet, and in a large clearing, away from worst of insects. There is light through the large windows from all fours sides, and plenty of both sun and shade. It is fully furnished, with upper end appliances, good furniture, lots of dishes, bedding, and towels, as well as a range of spices and toiletries. Everything works, from the ice maker and water dispenser in the refrigerator to the inspired electronics throughout the house. From the large kitchen table to the huge screened porch, from the comfortable living room to the downstairs media centre, the house is ideal for every type of weather. And it sits in the midst of beauty: the sparkling St. Peter's Bay, the rustic country fields, and the magnificent dunes and beaches at Greenwich, 4km away. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby as well, as is indicated in the full set of notes provided by the owners, and a variety of pretty places to visit. As a place to spend private time, or as a base for sightseeing, for anyone who is not longing to be located in the midst of the busy touristic central section of the Island, Red Road Cottage in the northeast is about as good as it gets. By comparison to other options, it is also very well priced. The owners are readily accessible by phone or email, as is the neighbour who manages the property. We spent a perfect week in August, would recommend it without hesitation to our family and friends, and would plan to enjoy the property again were we to be back on the magical Prince Edward Island!

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This spacious home with a large modern kitchen was perfect for 2 very active couples. Our breakfast and dinner in the screened-in porch was serene. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious. Enjoyed watching 1 movie downstairs on the large screen TV one night. The WiFi speed was good. Location was great to explore the north and southeast shores.

Our favourite beach was in Greenwich park just a few km away: quiet, and not busy. Check out Basin Head Provincial Park: very busy beach, but worth the visit to jump off the concrete wall on either side of the "river" to plunge into the faster flowing water. The cottage is on a quiet road for runners ( e.g. 8 km round trip to Greenwich park entrance). For cyclists, check out gulf Shore Parkway East from Dalvay by the Sea area to North Rustico and continue along Gulf Shore Parkway West. A loop in the Bay Fortune area was also nice. For windsurfing (brought a trailer with own equipment (no rentals available)), check out Souris Beach Provincial Park and in the PEI Provincial park west of Brackley Beach and Gulf Shore Pkwy East intersection. A must eat place: Blue Mussel cafe in North Rustico harbour (one of the best seafood chowder!)

Great house and location!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our week in PEI. St. Peters is a nice quiet village and the view of the bay from the house is nice. Pam's suggestions for local beaches worked out really well, and the proximity to the national park is great too. The screen porch got tons of use by all of us including the dog.

No complaints about the house at all. It was perfect for a family of 4. The home theater is impressive. The kitchen is well stocked. We hope to return!

Located only 4 km from Greenwich National Park, with stunning views of St. Peter’s Bay, our newly renovated 1800's farmhouse will make your island experience a memorable one. Red Road Cottage is a perfect four season vacation destination that is close to many top notch attractions. Whether you come during the summer months to stroll along the numerous pristine beaches; bike along the Confederation Trail; spend time on the well acclaimed golf courses; take in local theatre; savor fine dining; canoe/kayak on the many nearby rivers;or prefer the colder, snowier winter months to snowshoe, ski, ice fish or snowmobile, you will find that our cottage will suit your needs.

Red Road Cottage is close to many beautiful beaches that are rarely crowded. Five minutes down the road there is a supervised beach at Greenwich National Park. We have a parks pass you can use if you wish to visit this Park during your stay. If you would prefer a more secluded unsupervised beach setting, we can direct you to a couple that are within a 5 to 10 minute drive. Other beaches close by include Basin Head (30 minutes), Lakeside (20 minutes) and Fortune Beach (20 minutes, great for young children).

Greenwich National Park (4 km away):

This beautiful secret gem is known for it’s rare parabolic dunes and three hiking trails ranging from 1.5 km to 4 km in length. Spend time walking along the gorgeous beach that goes on for miles. When you stay at Red Road Cottage, you can visit this park free of charge using the park pass purchased for guests to use during their stay.

Three of Prince Edward Islands best known golf courses are nearby, The Links at Crowbush (20 minute drive), Brudenell River (25 minute drive), and Dundarave (25 minute drive) making Red Road Cottage a perfect place for an awesome golf vacation. If you want to try your hand at golf but are not ready for championship courses, then Rollo Bay (15 minute drive) or Avondale (40 minute drive) might be more to your liking.

Whether you want to create a gourmet meal in our fully equipped kitchen (which has a lobster pot and utensils) or eat out … the choice is yours. Many great dining experiences are within a short drive from Red Road Cottage. Tantalize your tastebuds at one of the several fine dining venues nearby including The Inn at St. Peters (2 min. drive) or the Inn at Bay Fortune (20 min. drive) where the acclaimed Chef Michael Smith concocts his masterpieces. For those interested in more casual dining, try Lin’s Takeout (next door); Rick’s Fish and Chips or the Old School Diner in St. Peter’s Bay (5 min. drive).

Confederation Trail (hiking, walking, running, biking, and snowmobiling):

The Confederation Trail is 5 minutes away. Once the old railway bed, this 279 km long trail that stretches from one end of the Island to the other, is the perfect place to walk, run or cycle in the summer months. When the snow flies, this trail is a snowmobiler’s paradise. Five kilometers from Red Road Cottage is one of the most scenic stretches of this trail as it meanders along St. Peter’s Bay from St. Peters to Morell. Fortunately, for those who opt not to bring a bike, bike rentals are available in St. Peters.

For those who are interested in doing a bit of local shopping, browse the shops at St. Peter’s Landing were you are sure to find something specially crafted by local artisans.

The St. Peter’s Courthouse Theatre (4 minutes), regularly puts on different events to enjoy during the summer months. As well, the Trailside Café in Mount Stewart (20 minutes) often has local musicians playing.

Many local rivers and ponds are great to fish in for trout. Those who prefer fly fishing, the Morell River is a great place to go try to catch salmon!

Lots of rivers nearby make for endless opportunities to explore via canoe or kayak. Both the Midgell and Morell Rivers are within a 10- 15 minute drive and have easy and free launching pads with ample parking. Canoes and Kayaks can be rented in Morell. Souris, Fortune and Cardigan Rivers (all within 20 to 30 minute drives) would also offer some nice paddling experiences.

Deep Sea Fishing and Blue-Fin Tuna Fishing:

Many charters offer fishing excursions out into the ocean. North Lake (50 min. drive) is known as the Tuna Capital of the World. If being on a boat is not your thing, but you would like to see a tuna being brought in, head to Naufrage Harbour (20 minutes) and you might be lucky enough to see one being lifted out of a boat. Many local fishermen fish out of Naufrage, so if you get to know some of the locals, they might be able to tell you when one is on its way in.

Many species of birds migrate to PEI from early spring to mid fall. Bald eagles, Osprey, Blue Herons, and the endangered Piping Plovers are among some of the birds that can be sighted in the area.
