Beautiful view, clean apartment
Amazing views from the balcony. Apartment was exactly as described and shown in pictures. Rooms were spotless and we appreciated the snacks that were in the apartment. It felt very homey.
Spacious and clean place
My husband and I spent one week in the apartement in January. The place is really big, clean and new, furnished in a modern, international style and very well equiped. All gadgets worked well including the heating, which you need in Sicilia in winter in the evening. We didn't use the outdoor kitchen but this is porbably a very nice place in summer.
The apartement is on the outskirts of Porto Empedocle in a newly developed area, so there is some rough land around but it is a safe and quiet area.
The owner welcomed us at a scheduled time and explained everything we needed to know and made a great effort to speak slowly and clearly because my Italian is not very good. The communication before we arrived was not with Mr Rizzo but Mr Francesco Paolo di Lorenzo, which was a bit irritation at first, but easier because Mr di Lorenzo speaks English. When we arrived there waited a basket of delicious oranges and grapefruits for us as welcome gift.
We spent our time sightseeing and on hiking trips (Sicilia is a great place for hiking in winter!) so we were glad to come back to the nice and comfy apartement in the afternoons. Because most of the restaurants are closed this time of the year we bought food in the nearby supermarket or on an open market and cooked in the handy kitchen.
For us and for our purposes the apartement was a very good choice and I think everybody will feel at home soon.
Few minutes from La Scala dei Turchi and Valle dei Templi
Renato's apartment was very comfortable for us. The rooms are large and nicely decorated. The kitchen is fully equipped.
Outside there is a nice seating area and a second kitchen.
Our host made sure we did not miss anything. The kitchen was filled with basic food.
The apartment is located a few minutes from the surrounding attractions: the beautiful beach, La Scala dei Turchi and Valle dei Templi. We would recommend this host and its a very nice apartment!
The Agrigento area is surrounded by gorgeous, uncontaminated and also unknown beach places; their long, white, sandy beaches will take your breath away! Some of them are natural reserves thanks to their beauty and their wildlife conservation.
One of the most beautiful is “Foce del Fiume Platani”, a protected area between Borgo Bonsignore and Capo Bianco, whose calcareous cliffs rise up marking the landscape incomparably. This area is characterized by sandy dunes, mouth zones, hill landscapes and Mediterranean wood that blend harmoniously each other.
“Torre Salsa” is another natural masterpiece, located between Siculiana Marina and Eraclea Minoa. Its peculiarity are the chalk and clay cliffs and the very bright sea, whose bottom is marked by a rich blooming flora and fauna. The six kilometers of wild nature encompass jagged shores, golden and secluded beaches, sandy dunes and uncontaminated paths which will fascinate sea and nature lovers. Furthermore you can admire the old famous sighting tower that dominates the top of a little promontory in the very centre of this oasis.
What you mustn’t miss is “Scala dei Turchi”, a singular white cliff made by limestone and clay which rises along the coast of Realmonte and overlooks a crystalline sea. Its name comes from the Turkish invasions. According to an old legend, the Saracens got there from the sea and climbed the cliff until the top; once there, they attacked the local people. It has became a tourist attraction for its particular color and shape; wind and rain have modeled it throughout the time, creating a huge natural staircase whose lines are rounded and irregular. Its white rocks look brighter thanks to the sun light and the water is incredibly clear.. it’s a paradise!
THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES - AGRIGENTO
The Valley of the Temples is one of the most suggestive attraction of Sicily. It rises in the southern part of the old city and is considered the biggest archaeological park in the world. Among a blooming almond trees countryside, the wonderful ruins of the temples, whose architectural majesty is still intact, will fascinate you.
This archaeological marvel consists of eight temples built in the 5th century BC: the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Hephaestos, the Temple of Demeter, and the Temple of Asclepius (the God of Medicine). The last one is situated on the banks of the Akragas river, all the others are in the same area on a rocky scarp in the southern modern Agrigento.
The Valley of the Temples is the most sublime evidence of the Greek civilization in Sicily until today and it has been an Unesco world heritage site since 1998.
PORTO EMPEDOCLE – was born as a port area of the ancient Agrigento. From a jetty used for loading and unloading of goods, the city became crucial to sulfur exports and in 1830 began to assume the appearance of a true residential center with churches and palaces.
It owes its name to the philosopher Emigrant Empedocle.
Among the most important monuments there are:
- The tower CarloV: built by the will of the emperor Carlo V, to protect the exchanges from the corsairs.
It is a truncated pyramid building culminating with a large terrace used as a viewing point.
- Chiesa Madre (the main church) : open to worship in 1904 and dedicated to SS. Salvatore, the Immaculate and S. Gerlardo, patron of the city.
- The Marinella Beach is located not far from the town and has a fine golden sand bottom, bathed by clear, deep-colored waters.
- Statue of Commissioner Montalbano: a real place of interest since it is a famous character conceived by the writer Andrea Camilleri, native of Porto Empedocle
