WELCOME to I KA HALE O KE MELE KOHOLA, aka "HOUSE of SINGING WHALES", a Premier VRBO Partner

Imagine your next vacation relaxing in beautiful Hawaii, gazing at spectacular sunsets and majestic panoramic ocean, coast line and volcano mountain views from the privacy of your own vacation home. It’s a well-designed, immaculately maintained house, with three bedrooms and three full baths. This vacation property is located in the exclusive gated community of Kohala By The Sea, at the beginning of North Kohala, just 20 mins. north of Waikoloa Beach Resort, 40 mins. north of Kona International Airport, and 5 minutes from the Big Island Kohala Coast, the Gold Coast known for its five star resorts offering manicured beaches, famous golf courses, luxurious spas and fine dining. How can this vacation picture get any better? You can frequently SEE and HEAR THE WHALES from this home & its expansive lanai during whale migration season (November - April). Just imagine being able to watch & listen to whales sing as they swim, breach and dive along the coast, next to protected deep water coves just 1000 feet away. You can also see the dolphins playing in a nearby bay. It is truly an amazing experience to see & hear these impressive creatures from the comfort of an exquisite home!

THE ENTRANCE

A gently sloped driveway leads past fragrant white Plumeria trees, Birds of Paradise and beautiful Fuchsia Bougainvillea to the home. Privacy is ensured because the house sits on a large, one acre lot, with significant elevation differences from neighboring homes. As you enter the front door you immediately see the panoramic ocean and coastline views through over 24 linear feet of wrap around glass doors of the living room. The high arched ceilings and the open living, dining and kitchen area floor plan are so impressive you may just sit and gasp at this scene for a long while before exploring the rest of the house. In fact, our guests love just relaxing and taking in the views from the chaise lounge which is strategically positioned in the family room, right next to the wrap around glass doors - the best seat in the house. Claim the chaise lounge quickly before the rest of your party does! This seat overlooks the glimmering pool, with views of three volcanic mountain ranges – Kohala, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea – plus a panoramic view of turquoise and blue ocean and a seemingly never-ending coast line. It's simply breath-taking!

EXPANSIVE OUTDOOR LIVING AREA with POOL & JACUZZI

This home has an expansive outdoor living area, which is great for entertaining. A 5-foot deep swimming pool and 4-person Jacuzzi tub are ready for your enjoyment by day or night (both can be lit at night). You will have access to pool toys, floating loungers, and more for entertainment in the water. The oh-so-comfortable deck furniture is perfect for relaxing after a refreshing swim or soothing jacuzzi soak. The spa tub is located next to the swimming pool, and right outside the master suite, which spells romance for a vacationing couple. And the comfortable outdoor dining table and adjacent BBQ area may be the only place you will choose to eat and cook during your entire stay because of its natural surroundings and breathtaking views!

BRIGHT & OPEN LIVING, DINING and KITCHEN SPACE

The large, open floor plan with high vaulted ceilings in the living room, dining room, and kitchen provides a dramatic, yet airy and bright ambiance. The kitchen is an open style galley design with three skylights, granite counter tops, a bar and four bar stools with 5-star views and stainless steel appliances. There are two large refrigerators – a French style in the kitchen and a side-by-side in the garage - which provide plenty of food and drink storage space for even large families. The cook top and oven are conveniently powered by propane gas, not electricity (unlike like most vacation rental condos).

IMPRESSIVE OCEAN VIEWS from EVERY LIVING SPACE and BEDROOM

Going further into the house, you’ll notice that it's not just the living room with great views - every bedroom in the house was meticulously designed to capture the stunning ocean views. As if the unforgettable views weren’t enough, the home is beautifully decorated with island furnishings and Hawaiian / Polynesian art.

OPTIMAL HOME LAYOUT with WELL APPOINTED ROOMS – Sleeps 8+

All three bedrooms are large rooms with impressive vaulted ceilings. The master bedroom has an on-suite bathroom, featuring a deep-soaking jetted bathtub, his and her sinks, and a walk-in shower. And yes! You can actually see the amazing views of three volcanic mountains and the ocean from INSIDE the tub. The master bedroom is furnished with a comfortable and beautiful tropical style king bed. The master walk-in closet is so large it could be another room, and features a crib/toddler bed so a small child can be close to his/her parents. There is also a love seat in the master bedroom with a pull-out twin bed. The 2nd bedroom has a queen bed, plus a 24” wide futon in a loft that accommodates 1 adult or 2 kids. The 3rd bedroom has two Twin XL beds which can be bridged together to make a king bed. All three bedrooms have full ocean views and two entrances - one from the hallway and the other from sliding glass doors directly accessing the lanai. The 2nd full bathroom is conveniently located across the hallway from the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. The 3rd bathroom is a ¾ bath with shower, and is smartly located in the garage, so beach-goers and those exercising with the gym fitness equipment can easily rinse off before entering the home. There is also a dedicated laundry room with a sink and modern washer and dryer machines.

OVER-THE-TOP AMENITIES for ENDLESS ENTERTAINMENT

The living room has a huge 70" flat panel 4K television with a 4K upscaling Blu-ray player and speaker system. 300+ cable TV channels. There is a DVR cable box in the living room to record your favorite shows and movies and a second cable box is in the Master Bedroom. Enjoy your music in the living room or through the built-in ceiling speakers on the lanai. You will appreciate fast cable internet connections of 50MBps upload / download speeds on the home’s dual band powerfull Wi-Fi network, to support your latest laptops, tablets, and smartphone devices, for streaming music, photos and videos. To top it off, we have provided an Apple TV module and a high-speed Wi-Fi color inkjet printer for your use to print boarding passes, directions, and even family photos taken during your vacation (just supply your paper and ink please). There is an extensive library of fiction, non-fiction, travel and self-help books to read as well as books about Hawaii. There are plenty of board and card games to keep families entertained too.

SLEEPING ACCOMODATIONS

There is more than enough room for a large or extended family, but still cozy enough for a romantic getaway for two. The home sleeps 8 adults: 2 in the master king bed, 2 in a queen bed, 1 on each of the 2 twin XL beds, 1 or 2 in the loft within the 2nd bedroom, 1 on the love seat pull-out twin bed.

BABY, KID and PET FRIENDLY

For a baby or toddler this a great place to lay their sleepy heads - we can easily make the home “baby ready” or “kid ready” for you. There is a convertible crib / toddler bed. Other items include: bottle warmer, bottle sterilizer, sippy cups, bibs, white noise machine, jogging stroller, safety outlet covers, and more. There are also plenty of toddler toys!

We accept well-behaved dogs or cats with an extra pet fee, deep-cleaning fee and security deposit for each animal. There are some house and property rules. Please be aware of the strict Hawaii regulations and processes for bringing a pet to the islands, so be diligent.

MAXIMUM STAR-GAZING

If you love astronomy, this is your island. The Big Island is home to over 14 international observatories which are located at Mauna Kea’s peak. This is because this mountain is extremely high, moderately accessible and there is minimal light pollution from the surrounding landscape. The skies are so clear here, you can actually see the milky way with the naked eye. Plus the unique stars that make Andromeda galaxy! Enjoy the night sky and the milky way from the pool or spa! And to top this unique experience off, you will be able to enjoy discovering the stars and planets with an Orion Celestial telescope and star chart. Binoculars and a tripod are also available for your use.

DO YOU GOLF?

If you love golf, this is also your island. Play the famous Mauna Kea golf course, located at the prestigious Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince sister resort, which Golf magazine ranks as the 27th Top 100 Public Courses in America, and the 3rd best in Hawaii. The Signature Hole is the 3rd, a par 3, which is one of the most breathtaking and intimidating holes you may ever find. The tee shot plays over an ocean cove of crashing waves.

SNORKEL WITH THE HONU (Turtles in Hawaiian)

Swimming and snorkeling in the pristine, warm Hawaiian ocean can’t be missed. You will have access to snorkeling equipment (masks, snorkels, fins and even diving boots and gloves), plus ocean toys and floats, beach mats, chairs, umbrellas and towels, coolers, boogie boards. You name it! The beaches are so diverse you will want to explore several to find your favorite spot. Some have great waves for playing in, others are lined with palm trees providing ample shade, some have white silky sand and turquoise waters, and others have the famous black sand. Some ideal for swimming with turtles and colorful fish, others have tide pools for eyeing sea urchins, crabs & sea anemones.

We supply the “The Big Island Revealed” book to help you navigate the island during your stay.

About Gregg and Fabia Brunnick

Hawaii is our favorite place in the world. My husband, raised in Wisconsin (an authentic 'cheesehead' from Green Bay), said goodbye to harsh winters for good when he moved out to California. I was born and raised in sunny Southern California, but lived in Oahu, Hawaii as a small child, usually returning to Hawaii for extended summer vacations thru school age. Hawaii has always been my home away from home, and now this beautiful house has become my family's second home. After searching for a second home in Hawaii for 12 years, we finally found the ONE. And now we would love to share our home and Aloha with you for your next vacation!

The wondrous variety of climate zones, the grand, undeveloped landscape, and its peaceful and tranquil nature makes the Big Island our favorite Hawaiian island. We hope it will become yours too!

Why Gregg and Fabia Brunnick chose Kamuela

VIEWS THAT ARE HARD TO BEAT

Many other homes have ocean views, but usually from outside, or from only one or two rooms. This home has panoramic view of the ocean, the sunset, the mountains and the Kohala (Gold) Coast from almost every room of the house. The views are simply dramatic, jaw-dropping, and some would argue BETTER than ocean front views because of the diverse landscape.

PRIVATE POOL AND JACUZZI

Beautiful clean pool with the same view as the rest of the home. The outdoor Jacuzzi is next to the pool and right outside the master suite.

BEAUTIFUL, NEWER, WELL-MAINTAINED AND APPOINTED HOME

Built in 2002 by a well-known home builder, this home offers a very efficient and optimized floorplan: open spaces, high-ceilings, and access to the lanai from every bedroom.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

This home is on a perfectly located lot with closer ocean views than probably 95% of all rental homes on the island. Furthermore, nearby rental homes in the same and neighboring communities, and in the same price range, just cannot compare to the views this property offers, because they are more inland. Though the Big Island is massive, ocean front and ocean close homes are limited and not very affordable. Our nightly rate is very competitive and we offer an incredible value for this quality of a home and the 5-star views that it offers!

What makes this house unique

SEE THE WHALES

See and hear migrating whales from Nov-April from the home and the lanai. There is even a chaise lounge strategically placed in the living area, next to the lanai glass doors so you can stay cool inside and still take advantage of the gorgeous views.

Panoramic ocean, coastline and three volcanic mountain views, with sunsets into the ocean almost every day of the year. The wrap-around lanai is approximately 1000 sqft, offering plenty of outdoor living enjoyment. Every bedroom has glass sliding doors leading directly to the lanai and pool area with full ocean views.

Wonderful views! Amazing pool!

We absolutely loved our stay at the House of the Singing Whales! We spent hours relaxing in the pool looking out at the ocean. We were thoroughly relaxed. The views are spectacular!

Outstanding VRBO RENTAL

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for five weeks and enjoyed every day. It has very impressive view of the ocean and the southwestern area of the Big Island, The three bedrooms, the living room and the lanai all have direct access the the 40 foot long pool. The kitchen is very well equipped to prepare any kind of dinner you want. The location inside the gated community means good security and quiet environment. The home is about 30 miles from the airport and Costco. We spent almost every morning coffee time on the lanai watching the tugboats and their container barges come and go. In the evening we normally had dinner on the lanai after watching the sunsets over the ocean. All in all a very relaxing place to stay.

Stunning home that enhanced our whole trip!

  • 5 of 5

This home was everything we had dreamed of and more. It is in a beautiful and very quiet gated community. The location of the house itself is perfect. Absolutely stunning views of the coastline and the mountain foothills from virtually every room in the house! Once you can take your eyes off the amazing views, you will find yourself in a truly beautiful home. This home, which very quickly felt like our home, is beautifully and tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture and lovely artwork throughout. The home was very clean and extremely well appointed. The owners, have obviously taken great care in stocking the home with everything their visitors might need! The kitchen is very well equipped for any kind of cooking you may want to do, and there is a nice selection of spices available. Anything you could imagine or need was there. We made good use of the exercise equipment, beach chairs and the coolers you will find in the garage. We found the owners, Gregg and Fabia, very pleasant to work with. They would very quickly respond to any questions we had, and provided a very comprehensive "where to find everything" list as well as suggestions for local shopping and attractions. As beautiful and comfortable as the house was, when we weren't out exploring the island, we spent most of our time out on the lanai area. We ate all our meals at the outdoor table, and most evenings made good use of the grill. The pool is clean and refreshing and is large enough for swimming laps. We spent several evenings just floating around in the pool watching the stars...amazing, and the milky way is easily visible! A few highlights for us... I loved waking up to see the lights of Waikoloa Village in the distance. As the sun came up, it painted the surrounding countryside with a wide array of colors that was different almost every day! Several mornings, usually between 7:30 and 9 am, we were treated to a pod of spinner dolphins swimming close along the shore towards Kawaihae Harbor...grab the binoculars (provided)!. The sunsets from the home are stunning, and we made sure to miss very few! We loved the location.... a bit away from all the "touristy" stuff, but not too far if you want that. We love Waimea, the closest town, and looked forward to the farmers markets there (check them out early in your stay!) Would we recommend this home? Yes, highly! Would we go back? In a heartbeat! We are already planning a return visit :) Mahalo to Gregg and Fabia!

Gorgeous views, beautifully furnished and well-appointed for every conceivable convenience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at the “House of the “Singing Whales” at Kohala by the Sea development in Kamuela , Hawaii for 5 months.

I found the house to be beautifully furnished and well-appointed with every conceivable convenience.... Plenty of linens, a fully stocked chef’s kitchen , comfortable beds, pool toys, extra fridge in garage , wine refrigerator, massage table, a crib and children’s toys should you need/want them! Frankly, you name it, they thought of it and provided the house with it!! Plenty of cleaning supplies and dry goods as well. We simply unpacked and enjoyed the beautiful view!

Compared to other rentals this place is a dream!

It was a lovely stay made especially great by the constant kindness of the owners.

I highly recommend this lovely house with an amazing view of the pacific ocean!!

GOLF

Play the famous Mauna Kea golf course, located at the prestigious Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince sister resort, which Golf magazine ranks as the 27th Top 100 Public Courses in America, and the 3rd best in Hawaii. The Signature Hole is the 3rd, a par 3, which is one of the most breathtaking and intimidating holes you will ever find. The tee shot plays over an ocean cove where waves crash against the lava rock.

SNORKEL and SCUBA

Swimming and snorkeling in the pristine and warm Hawaiian ocean can’t be missed while you are visiting. You will have access to snorkeling equipment (masks, snorkels, fins and even diving boots and gloves), plus ocean toys and floats for the kids and adults, beach mats, a cooler and beach towels. Nearby coves and beaches are so diverse you will want to visit several in order to find your favorite spot. We will provide you with a long list of beaches that are close by, and what each of them uniquely offers. Some have great waves for playing in, others are lined with palm trees providing ample shade, some have white silky sand and turquoise waters, and others have the famous black sand. There are some beaches and coves that are ideal for swimming with turtles and spotting many colorful fish, others have great tide pools for eyeing sea urchins, crabs, sea anemones and cucumbers without having to get wet.

Visit with the Manta Rays at the lit cove next to the Mauna Kea resort beach. If you like to scuba-dive or would consider Snuba (snorkeling with an tethered air tube so you can stay underwater for a longer time than holding your breath), there are night time diving excursions offering both types of diving to see these impressively large, yet elegantly graceful rays up close. We highly recommend this experience if you love sea life and feel very comfortable in the water.

DAY TRIPS

Taking a day trip (long day trip that is) to the National Volcano Park is another unique experience for vacationers on the island of Hawaii. The lava flows change almost daily, so it is best to call the park the night before and/or morning you plan to go see the park. The good news is that this vacation home is on the exact opposite side of the island from the active volcano. This means there is a very slim chance the lava will ever come near this home, and the VOG (volcanic fog) is much more rare to see on this sunny and dry side of the island. The bad news is that if you are going to visit the volcano, it is a 2 hour drive each way. But then again you won’t be in a rush because you are on vacation, and you will probably do the volcano park sightseeing trip only once during your stay.

STAR GAZING

Star-gazing at the top of Mauna Kea, where there 14 International Observatories. Though these are private, there is a ranger station open to the public near the summit. They provide ranger talks and night time star and planet tours. There are also some hiking trails from where you can see the incredible sunsets above the clouds.
