The house was beautiful, the location is great and the owners are super easy to contact for questions. We would highly recommend this to anyone coming with more than a couple people to Statia. The house has everything we needed and the proximity to everything downtown is ideal. You don’t need to use a car unless you are going further than town or the bay, but there is a driveway if you have a car. I can’t say enough good things about this property and I will definitely try to stay there on my next visit to Statia!
Clean and left us wanting for nothing.
Great landing pad for our family of 4. Well situated to many of the activities we did. Perfect amount of amenities.
Unique house with great charm, comfort and amazing history
The house could be on a historical tour, has so much character and interesting architectural detailing outside and inside. Kathy & David have very helpful pages of information about the history of the house and important stuff about the facilities.
The furniture and decor are in keeping with historical feel of the house. Everything is comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen is brilliant - with an ancient stone fireplace converted to modern stove and tile counter, above beautiful wooden cupboards, which are on other side of kitchen as well. The dining room is a little dark, but opening doors to the back patio lets wonderful sunlight in. The patio doors are kept closed by a unique bar which took us awhile to figure out! The house itself is on a one way street, somewhat busy at times, in the upper town. Not much to do on the island except walk and see historical sights in upper town & lower town ( and yes, swim in the tiny beach, dive, and hike Mt. Quill which we did not do). Our stay was very relaxing because of the house. The history of St. E. is remarkable, having an important impact on the American Revolution, even possibly making it possible: Dutch Governor DeGraaff sent arms & ammunition and goods to the colonies via the triangle trade (and made a fortune as a consequence) which were direly needed. He gave the "first salute" to the American ship, Andrea Dorea in 1776, and received a copy of the Declaration of Independence. Ultimately, this cause the British to go to war with Dutch.
Fascinating place and history. Highly recommend this house to stay in and the island to visit.
So glad to hear you enjoyed our house and the island. We love it too! Thanks so much for the great review, much appreciated.

loved the home and location
Delightful and would to visit again
Lovely historic home
This beautiful old home offered us everything we looked forward to during our stay in Statia - walking distance to stores, restaurants, historic sites, the museum and the waterfront. Being in the center of town, we were able to meet and socialize with the local people who are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The house was clean, bright, and airy and updated without losing its historic feel. The patio in the large back yard was a favorite private place to relax and read. Though there is no oven, the cooktop and other kitchen furnishings were all we required to cook our meals.
What a AWTHUMB house !!!
2 Kerkweg = AWTHUMB house
We ( 4 adults ) stayed here for 1 week. So much better then staying at a local hotel. It's BIG , it's CLEAN, and CENTRALLY located. The pictures do NOT do this property justice.
We ate breakfast on the back patio every morning. Walked down to the bakery picked up warm bread for sandwiches.
Highlights --- Bakery is a 60 second walk from front door ( take a right from the gate and the yellow building on your left is the bakery 6am - Noon). Cool Corners, Ocean View Terrace restaurant both a block away, Franky's Place ( get the goat ) is 2- ish blocks away. Grocery store less then 5 min walk away. Golden Rock Dive center 10 min walk .
I'm so happy that the owner of Golden Rock Dive Center told me about this place . I don't think I will stay any where else when I return . Thanks Kathy & David. Your place was awthumb !!!!!!
