About the property

The luxury accommodation consists of three large double bedrooms. The shabby chic bedroom, light and airy, on the ground floor adjacent to the bathroom, with a King size bed and shabby chic Louis XV style furniture.

The Baroque bedroom, is decorated in decadent French baroque style with a black king size bed, black shabby chic furniture, damask feature wallpaper and gilt gold accents with dual aspect windows.

The Fourchaud bedroom is named after the family that lived in this French country farmhouse for four generations. This traditional luxury bedroom is also double aspect and has the handmade solid wood furniture carved by the Fourchaud family of carpenters. There is a brand new bathroom with a rain shower in between these two bedrooms on the first floor. The ground floor bathroom has a roll top bath, walk in shower and his/hers sinks. There is also a separate WC on the ground floor. The kitchen is traditional French country style and stocked full of crockery and cooking equipment. The neutral yet cosy lounge has two large sofas and French doors leading to the garden overlooking the fishing lake. Outside -swimming pool, terrace.

Sleeping Arrangements: The bedrooms consist of a double bed in the Fourchaud Bedroom and King size beds in the Shabby Chic and Baroque Bedroom. There are also two single put up beds which can be placed in the room of your choice or in the private landing area at the top of the house. A cot is also available.

This is your opportunity to enjoy an exclusive French carp lake of 2 acres in size. In 2013 the lake was landscaped with a feature island added in the middle. We have a fantastic stock of fish, now around 60 french carp; common and mirror 20lb to 50.1lb. There is also good head of 30 tench at 6lb to 9lb, roach, and perch of various weights. Fishing is permitted anytime of the day or night.

We are very happy to confirm our new stock have arrived.

As a extra treat for our guests we have managed to find a immaculate 38.7lb mirror, 33lb and a cracking 29lb mirror with a beautiful pink tinge.

All of these fish are at there lowest winter weight, so we will hopefully see some new 40lbs+ later this season.

The 38lb had a very hollow belly on the day of stocking, given the overall size of the fish it could be huge!!

We are also very excited to see the weight of the 10 carp stocked last year between 25-30lb, which were not all caught last season.

We have been waiting for the right fish to come along since last September and now we have them.

The 10 carp consist of 5 beautiful long commons, 4 mixed colour mirror and a stunning plated mirror. These carp have been stocked at their lowest winter weight so were hoping for some of the fish to reach the mid thirty mark this coming season.

We are looking forward to seeing the results of the feeding program of 2013, our first stock of fish should be starting to put the weight on this year, so we expect our guests to be catching alot more 20lb+ and some more 30lb+, a very exciting year ahead!!

Were also waiting on the delivery of 2 more carp over the 30lb mark, not sure what type yet but commons have been requested, we will post photos and weights as soon as they arrive.

The lake is the ideal place to teach a child the joys of fishing.... anyone with a passion for angling who started as a child will never forget the thrill of catching their first carp and the way it makes you feel. Natures Retreat has everything you need for carp fishing in France with family. We offer quality baits, please enquire for further information. We offer full tackle packages, for more information contact us

Garden furniture: There are 5 sun loungers available for use at the property and two wooden garden tables with eight wooden garden chairs and a sun parasol.

An ideal location for autumn walks along the local rivers, around the lakes and through the stunning forests that surround. Why not forage for ceps and other mushrooms, the wild fruits and nuts including chestnuts, hazelnuts, cob nuts and walnuts. We can offer tips on good spots to discover an ample harvest. Then come back to a cosy lounge and enjoy a wholesome casserole with your favourite tipple in front of the log woodburner. Or pop out to a local restaurant to enjoy the seasonal food including game and wild boar.

Christmas & New Year packages include a tree all the trimmings, beautiful classic quality decorations including wreaths made from local holly, mistletoe & pines & a basket of chestnuts to roast on the fire. We can also do the Christmas shopping for you wish so that the cupboards are stocked on your arrival & the turkey is in the fridge. Tell us what we can provide to make your Christmas extra special & your New Year the best ever.

Beautiful house, grounds and amazing fishing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a group; three couples and one child. The house was well appointed and had everything we needed to make it a home from home. The grounds were stunning and lake simply beautiful. My husband and brother in law fished every day and most nights and were rewarded well; catching over 25 fish between them, including 18 carp ranging in size from 23.5 lb to a colossal 38.6lb!

We arrived the week that ownership was passing over to Gary and Fran mid week and whilst this was not an ideal situation due to some of the listed amenities and facilities not being available, including bikes, ponies, chickens (which my daughter was very disappointed about) Gary and Fran were very welcoming and went over and above to ensure that the remainder of our stay was not impeded. They were very gracious hosts and nothing was too much trouble, from a cup of sugar to buying my husband a bottle of champagne for his 40th Birthday!

Overall this is a lovely place and on hearing the changes Gary and Fran have planned for the future we are looking forward to returning soon to an even better holiday home and fishing destination!

We wish you all the best for the future,

The Reynolds, Cookson and Jacznik families!

Arrived at Natures Retreat to a lovely reception from Alan and Lesley. They showed us around the house, swimming pool and lake giving us all the information we needed. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning. All the rooms were exceptionally clean, with lovely linen and towels in the bedrooms. Everything was ready for our arrival with a lovely welcome pack of milk, juice etc, which was a very nice touch. The grounds are lovely with a very nice eating area looking over the lake, which we used most evenings to eat. The kitchen has everything you need with plenty of plates, cutlery, glasses etc. The swimming pool was very clean and was a delight to get in with the temperature at 32 degrees.

The fishing lake was very well kept, with large swims which suited us as we fish as couples. We caught a total of 13 fish over the week between four of us. We fished every day from 7am - 10pm and two nights, so put a lot of time in, but it was very hot and what we did catch were in beautiful condition - clearly the fishery is very well looked after. There is also a small but quite steep hill to get to the house from the lake, which would be fine for 99% of people, but one of our party needs a new knee, and he did struggle.

Overall the property, gardens and lake were the best we have been to in France (and we have been to quite a few!), and the house was the one I have been most sorry to leave - it really is stunning. We were four adults, but it would be an amazing big family holiday venue, we would 100% recommend it

Amazing piece of heaven in rural France

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Natures Retreat (1-8 April 2017).

Where do I start?!

The hosts: from point of booking, Clint and Jane have answered many questions from us. helping with the hire of fishing equipment and general advice. The welcome was amazing and Clint was always on hand, if needed. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Whilst we were there Clint offered advice to the fishermen, and took countless photo's (I'm sure he'll be glad of the rest now that we've left)! His advice was invaluable and it is clear to see that he is very respectful of the fish and has looked after them superbly. The whole area is maintained to such a high standard - it really is something to be proud of.

The house... is utterly amazing. I wish I lived there! It has everything you could ever need. Large, spacious rooms with very comfortable beds, linen, towels, kitchen stocked to the brim with every utensil and piece of cutlery you could ever wish for! And it was lovely and clean on our arrival. The pool area is a lovely bonus to the property. A bit too cold for us oldies in April, although our kids did have a quick dip! Can imagine it being wonderful in the height of Summer.

We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting by the lake in the sun all week, with the boys, while they fished. Now onto the fishing... the boys had a fantastic week, with their fish ranging from 24.5lbs to 46lbs and many, many more in between. They were absolutely chuffed to pieces - and will remember this holiday for the rest of their lives. Again, Clint's expertise and advice paid dividends!

The week flew by and we were all very sad to be leaving such a wonderful place. We had an absolutely amazing time, and would not hesitate to recommend this little piece of heaven :-)

Perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday at Nature's Retreat, the accommodation was first class. We were warmly welcomed by Jane and Clint, and they couldn't have been more helpful. We enjoyed the fishing very much and the surroundings were beautiful with the Autumn colours, the wildlife and the lake views. After a day fishing in the sometimes, cold and wet weather, it was great to go back to the warm and comfortable farmhouse.. We look forward to returning next year.

What more could you ask for....

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time as a family away on a fishing trip and with two young children (6 and 1) I can admit it wasn't something I was overly looking forward to. Husband fishing for 7 days and me childminding all day and night.

Then we arrived at natures retreat... Well when we got there all my worries disappeared straight away. Clint and Jane are THE MOST gracious hosts I've ever come across their welcome to us was so warm and inviting and we instantly feel in love with the place.

The house is both rustic and modern without taking away from the properties original charm. The house has everything you could possibly need, from clean towels to every kitchen utensil you could think of!

I didn't personally partake in any fishing but my husband has not stopped yapping on since we've been back about how good the fishing is. He caught a new PB within the mid 30lb range and another slightly smaller. The lake and surrounding bank is in beautiful condition, Clint takes a lot of pride in ensuring the surrounding area is very well maintained. The fish are in great condition and clearly well looked after.

The attention Clint pays to his visitors is absolutely spot on. You are never made to feel a nuisance nor anything you ask too much hassle. He offers great advice on the fishing and the local spots to visit.

We visited several of the local towns - Coussac Bonneval (Beautiful chateau) St Yrieix la perche and Limoges. We also visited the war memorial Oradour-sur-Glane, a village destroyed in the war that has been preserved in its final state. This is certainly worth a drive out to, a very eyeopening trip.

I really cannot recommend Jane and Clint at Natures Retreat anymore, the holiday was beautiful and we were lucky to have such lovely weather meeting the mid 20s so late in October.

We would definitely book to stay again and I cannot say enough to justify how really wonderful the place is. They should both be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
