Overview

About the property

Recently renovated two bed cottage in quiet courtyard just off the High Street. Right in the centre of Porlock village close to pubs and restaurants, and yet only a short walk to the Exmoor countryside, with Porlock beach less than a mile from the door.

It is a very comfortable, characterful cottage, capable of sleeping up to five. Travel cots are also available, (no extra charge) but need to be requested in advance please, as they are not stored in the house when not needed.

There is a large kitchen with washing machine, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee maker (please bring your own Nespresso capsules if you wish to use this), kettle, toaster, kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery to cater for a family of five.

The through lounge/diner has a comfortable three seater sofa, and a dining table with four chairs. A high chair can be provided on request. The television is freeview enabled for extra channels, and there is an Amazon "firestick" which connects to the Free wifi and has Alexa voice control as advertised on tv, which as well as giving you access to more tv services, can also be used to access Amazon music. Free superfast wi-fi is available throughout the house.

There is a working wood burner in one corner, and there are wall mounted electric heaters throughout the house.

The main bedroom has a comfortable double bed with a built in storage drawer in the base, while the second bedroom has a "trio" bunk, which is basically a double lower bed, with a single bed above it. Bedroom two also has a "smart" tv, with voice controlled Amazon firestick, to access more tv services, and Amazon music, the same as in the living room.

There is no garden as such, but it does have some courtyard, although mainly for parking (one car space).

We do try and stick to Saturday as the change over (start and finish) day, but we can accept bookings on other days if agreed prior to booking.

Perfect little cottage for our family, good location.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect little cottage for our family, good location. Lovely little village with 3 good pubs, Ship inn (Top Ship) is lovely on a sunny evening with good food. Other two are friendly and reasonably priced. Cottage has everything you need and Amazon Fire was a bonus with the little one! One thing that would be useful is a wardrobe/clothes rail in the bedrooms

Great little cottage

  • 4 of 5

Stayed at 1 The Mews Porlock for 1 week with 2 dogs. The cottage was well equipped and very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much, it is a great location to explore the local area.

We found the village to be very friendly, the local pubs were lovely especial the ship inn, the food there was very good.

Lovely cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week in this cottage. It is lovely and fresh and clean and very well equipped. Bedding, towels, furnishings are all lovely quality. The cottage is very well positioned in Porlock ideal for the pubs, restaurants and tea rooms most of which we used during our stay and all the local businesses were very friendly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. It's obviously only a small house, but we did put a lot of thought into making it as nice as we could for guests. It's really nice to know our efforts are appreciated. Thank you. Steve and Juliet

Location

Car: not necessary

Porlock is a very lovely but buzzy village very much centered on providing for holidaymakers, but without a "kiss me quick" hat to be seen! You will find many fine places to eat, pubs, antique shops, art galleries, and museums, and of course you're in beautiful Exmoor, with all it has to offer (The Exmoor national park covers over 260 square miles!).

Walking is very popular, with or without dogs, with some walks passing by the entrance to the courtyard. The beach and sea is a short walk of about a mile, with other walks to Bossington and Allerford, or Porlock Weir, being just a few miles longer. There should be some leaflets of recommended walks in the cottage. PLEASE NOTE - THE BREACH IN THE SHINGLE BETWEEN PORLOCK BAY AND PORLOCK WEIR MUST NOT BE CROSSED, AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!

The moors are just at the top of Porlock hill, and there are some lovely walks, particularly around the Brendon area (We would recommend the Stag Hunters Inn at Brendon, or the Rockford Inn, on the walk from Brendon in the direction of Lynmouth, for refreshments/meals). For the more ambitious, the walk from Brendon all the way to Lynmouth, taking in Watersmeet, and The Valley of the Rocks is very lovely, and well worth doing.

The Lynton to Lynmouth cliff railway, powered by water and gravity is another "must see". There are also some steam train railways in the area, one of the nearest being at Woody Bay station near Lynmouth.

For those of you who just want to spend the day on a nice sandy beach, Woolacombe, Combe Martin, Westward Ho, Saunton Sands, and many others are just a short drive down the coast.

Ideally we like a Saturday changeover, but other days can be considered. We do insist that the property is vacated by 10am on changeover day, and that new guests do not arrive before 4pm, to give the cleaners time to do a thorough job.
