Notes:
Our holiday let is located on the lower ground floor of our 4 storey, 19th Century built, but recently renovated Victorian home. With private access via two separate entrances, facilities exclusively available to guests include a sea facing living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and private mini sauna. Guests can also enjoy the back garden and front patios.

Good if you want to walk along the Dover cliffs

The owners welcomed us with a lovely food basket. The accommodation is all newly refurbished in a tasteful way, and the kitchen has everything you need. There are some noise issues when the water is turned on. The tv only has Apple TV and Amazon as you don’t get a signal there. Same with the phones but Email and WhatsApp work with the WiFi. The owners need to put some curtains up at the main doors as people can easily look in.

Walks along the Dover cliffs are nice and there’s two small local pubs but other than that not a lot else to do there.

Owner's Response: Welcome to coastal life! Thank you for taking the time to write your opinion however upon careful review we do deem much of what you have rated us on to be subjective. We stress that all points raised were made clear in our profile prior to booking. Even so, we warmly encourage all guests to give feedback directly to us (at the time, rather than month later) so we have chance to improve guest’s experience before check out. We are therefore disappointed by many of the issues raised here. The shower is electric and connected to a drainage pump which was made very clear upon arrival. The entrance is sea facing, adjoins a very private and secluded patio enclosed with tall shrubs: this is shown in the listing photos. We continue to deem front facing curtains unnecessary to keep the apartment light and airy however the bedroom and bathroom located at the back of the space have doors, curtains and blinds to ensure maximum privacy. The area: St Margaret’s Bay is a secluded and protected national trust official “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”, extremely close to the French coast (hence the French phone signal and limited network also made clear in the listing). This is what makes the area and experience we offer, appealing to so many who chose to visit. Notwithstanding the above, if guests choose to remain inside the apartment for the duration of their stay, the WiFi is fibre optic broadband 40 mb, with Apple TV and Amazon Fire entertainment options. It’s not clear what the guest’s complaint is here. We are one minute’s walk to a quiet beach with a pub restaurant and hiking distance to Walmer, Deal and Dover castle with many notable points of cultural and historic interest including the white cliffs, Deal, Canterbury and Sandwich. Once again we thank you for your custom however recommend in future you may be better suited and more comfortable in a commercial hotel setting.

St Margaret’s Bay is a village located within the Kent Downs (AONB) and the closest point to the French coast (under 19 miles away). It is famous for its panoramic views of the white cliffs of Dover and infamous for its smuggler and pirate base past. Since late Victorian times it has been a holiday resort and retreat for amongst others, Lord Byron, Sir Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming and Noel Coward who have all stayed or lived here. So why not stop off or stay for a long weekend and explore an area rich in history, culture and outstanding natural beauty.
