Kalkan and around: Kalkan is on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, with an average of 300 days of sunshine in a year. The area offers a wealth of fascinating historical sites and the magnificent view of the clean and clear Mediterranean.
Kalkan is an old fishing town, and the only safe harbor between Kas and Fethiye; famous for its white-washed houses, descending to the sea, and its brightly colored bougainvilleas. With nature still intact, and in the center of the wealth of the remains of ancient civilizations, Kalkan is the ideal resort for those who want calm and relaxation, enjoy the natural beauty of the cleanest seashore, of rough mountains covered with pine forests, and also for those who want to explore the remains of the ancient Lycian cities in the neighborhood. Lycia, 'The Land of Light', which is the first known federation in history, included the city states between Fethiye and Antalya, and its capital was Xanthos (Arna in Lycian language), which is Kinik today, 17km to KALKAN.
We had a very good holiday. The villa was as described, just what we wanted, it was clean and well maintained. The pool was clean and welcoming and the garden tidy. We a problem with the local water supply which was cut off several times and it took us a while to work out the reserve tank. Although the villa is only 800m from the town it is all uphill on the way back, but we managed it a few times, but it does mean that the view is fantastic. Kalkan was all we wanted, plenty of restaurants and bars and everyone was very friendly.
overall the villa was as stated on website it was clean and good value for money the views were stunning bit of a walk down to kalkan but ok 10 lira for taxi back to villa the only thing i would say that there was a smell of sewage on the far side of pool it was seeping through wall not all of the time i reported this to owner and he is sorting it out. agreat place for a holiday, the turkish people are so friendly
The villa is located 800 meters from the center of exotic Kalkan village, an idyllic fishing village with a charming marina where modern yachts mix with traditional fishing boats and gullets in a postcard pretty setting, where peace and tranquility are guaranteed. The cobbled streets have that special ambiance of old world charm and retain their lovely, traditional Turkish character. Kalkan offers an extensive range of delightful and atmospheric restaurants, from the relaxed simplicity of local home cooking, to the sophistication of the fabulous harbour-side and rooftop restaurants. There are supermarkets (offering delivery service), butchers, bakers etc. Activities in the area include mountain walks, diving, boat trips, fishing, scuba diving, canoeing, tandem paragliding and white water rafting, which can all be booked at the Harbour. Kalkan is also an ideal destination from which to explore the surrounding famous archaeological sites, like the Lycian ruins at Patara, Letoon & Xantos.
