Fantastic view and location

  • 4 of 5

Borve is most comfortable to stay in. Sitting on the balcony on a fine day is paradise. But the fire keeps you warm when the rain falls.

I would recommend having a few basics provided, given the rental price. So salt, pepper, sugar, washing up liquid does not see too much to ask! Fix that meters box too

Beautiful location overlooking Sanna Bay at the end of the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula

  • 4 of 5

Loved the balcony overlooking the sea. Good size kitchen. Lacked some basics which would have been nice like tea bags, salt and pepper.

Nice house, well equiped, great view, unique location. Beds need updating.

  • 4 of 5

Very well equiped house, excellent kitchen. Fantastic views in a unique location. Facilites worked very well and house presented very clean. Beds were found to be a bit old and uncomfortable, mice in the roof and the payment of electricity seemed unusual. But all in all a great stay in a nice house.

Our favourite holiday yet

  • 5 of 5

We all agreed that this was our favourite holiday home in all the years we have been coming to Ardnamurchan. We loved it so much that we booked to come back next year on the first day!

The house itself was immaculately clean and comfortable with a lovely log fire for the evenings. We had a friendly welcome from the owner Donald on arrival too. The views from the balcony were just beautiful. It has to be the best location in Ardnamurchan- just a short walk from a beautiful beach, views across the bay to Sanna, walks in abundance from the house and the Kilchoan shop and ferry just a few minutes away. Portuairk has a lovely peaceful feel to it- far enough away from everything but not too far.

Just lovely. We didn't want to leave!

Lovely location, maybe not set up for winter rentals

  • 3 of 5

We booked this property mainly for the stunning views and peaceful location, which we could not fault. The property overall was comfortable, if a little basic. We did have a lovely time staying here, I do think for the money we paid though (peak prices over the New Year period), we were left slightly disappointed with a few areas -

- On arrival, the property was absolutely freezing, all of the storage heaters had been switched off at the mains. Being the end of December, it took a few days for the property to start warming up.

- In addition to the above, there is no heater in the kitchen at all. We had to keep the door to the kitchen constantly closed to retain any of the warmth in the house. Cooking in there was not a very pleasant experience.

- There were quite a few draughts coming from the windows in the lounge area, there was tissue/ paper towels stuffed in to these in some areas.

- The electricity charges were astronomical! Over £60 for a weeks worth of electric! On average we holiday at 2 cottages per year in Scotland, and have never had to pay for electricity, this kind of thing seems a bit outdated.

- Towels and linens were at extra cost at £15 per bed. As such we decided to bring our own, resulting in us putting our own sheets on the beds at 9pm after arrival. This cost, plus the extra electricity costs would have added another £30 to our rental price - nearly £100 in extra costs.

- The house overall was well kept, well equipped and clean, based on previous homes we have stayed in I would say we paid a lot for the standard of the house though (probably not helped by all the extra charges). We found the beds a little uncomfortable, and kitchen slightly dated. The non stick pans could have done with replacing. There seemed to be some pictures missing from the lounge, leaving just some screws in the walls...

- I initially found this property on Home Away where I could not see any mention of a maximum number of dogs. Upon requesting to book however, I was then asked to pay another £100 refundable deposit on top of the £20 per dog charge (another £200 in total), due to this. After chasing Steadings for the money, I did thankfully receive the deposit back. I would like to hope that our stay with the dogs may have helped the owners'/ Steadings' opinion of dog owners for future rentals.

- Perhaps a little naively we were expecting that the house might have a few Xmas decs up during this time, the bottle of prosecco and chocolates were much appreciated however.
