About John

We are retired from careers in the public and voluntary service. We have lived locally for 16 years most recently in Camber which gives us the double benefit of the countryside with a beach a few minutes short walk from the house

John purchased this house in 2014

Why John chose Camber

Camber, a popular beach resort, served well by public transport and offers opportunities for walking, cycling and sailing. There a supermarket and a smaller store . There are plentiful farm shops who also offer food and beverages, cafes, pubs that serve food and the award winning hotel/restaurant 'The Gallivant'. Close by are charming towns, villages and numerous places of interest; museums, famous houses and gardens. There are miles of coast, countryside and marshes to explore. Nearby Dungeness is England’s only area, surprisingly designated a desert A truly magical area to visit with its lighthouse, unique array of beach homes, bungalows and cottages and famous Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch small gauge railway

In an area designated as of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest Sky View is an ideal location for sea and countryside. The property offers easy access to one of the UK’s finest beaches, just 7/8 minutes walk away. Over 3 kms in length with a sea wall/promenade perfect for walking and cycling. There is also a network of footpaths and cycle routes criss-crossing the nearby wildlife reservation. This wide, family friendly, dune enclosed sandy beach is ideal for flying kites, making sand castles and spending relaxing family time in the sea. It offers swimming, wind and sand surfing, canoeing and sailing. From May through to October 1st 6 Life Guards patrol the beach stationed in two Life Guard stations along its length.

There are designated areas for horse riding too. It is the perfect spot on the coast and its dunes were once the haunt of smugglers, whose plunder contributed to the prosperity of the historic and ancient Cinque Port of Rye, which is about 3 miles away.

Rye has many enchanting houses and cobbled streets, the most famous being Mermaid Street. The impressive Norman Church of St Marys sits on top of the town with its rich selection of shops and restaurants. The river and sea support a thriving fishing fleet

What makes this house unique

A stay in this location has a wealth of facilities on offer as we have described and has easy access to the most beautiful parts of SE England. The Rye to Camber walk has been voted in the Top 100 in the UK in the 2018 Independent Television poll. There are two more in the top 100 too. Dover to Deal ('The White Clifffs') and then Ramsgate to Margate. All achievable during your stay.

Great facilities and location!

  • 5 of 5

The house does what it says on the tin - well equipped, modern, and best of all walking distance to a great beach! Sunset on Camber beach is something else especially if you're a photographer. The house is on 3 levels and is part of an estate of similar houses. At the back you look out from the decking area over a large field with sheep as a great view of the sky, hence the name of the house. We were there for the meteor showers so got some views. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with everything you'd want.

John is very good on communication and the whole transaction went very smoothly.

Rye is a nice town to visit and we'd recommend a brisk walk on the nature reserve. All in all, tick in the box. Thanks John!
