About Liz Mayatt

Liz and Gary bought Holly Cottage in 2000 after holidaying in Hutton-le-Hole when Liz was a child and wanting to bring her own children to the village that she loved.

Liz Mayatt purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Liz Mayatt chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

We bought Holly Cottage in January 2000. This was our project for the new millennium! There was a lot of work to be done so we got to work renovating it and managed to complete all the work in 7 months. We then started letting it and have done since July 2000. We holiday ourselves in Holly Cottage as often as possible and still love spending as much time there as possible.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful location overlooking the village and hills. Holly Cottage is even featured on postcards sold in the village. Very spacious and warm - perfect for coming home to after a day exploring.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just a quick one to say thank you for allowing us to stay at your lovely cottage, it’s a fantastic holiday home. Unlike a lot of holiday homes we’ve stayed in, it was very well equipped with kitchen utensils etc and it really felt like home.

Hopefully we will return another time to maybe enjoy it during a different season.

Just returned from a very peaceful and relaxing stay in a wonderful property in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

The North Yorkshire Moors must be one of the most picturesque and unspoilt locations in England. This fantastic cottage is located just inside the boundaries of the Moors, in a beautiful village. Hutton-le-Hole has a number of Cafes and an excellent pub (The Crown). Our favourite café was The Barn, where you can take the "Large Tea Cake" challenge. Whitby and Robins Hood Bay are within easy reach (about half and hour), and Pickering and Helmsley are very close.

The accommodation is large with four good sized double and twin bedrooms. It's location is perfect for exploring the Moors. We booked this holiday for ourselves (my wife and daughter), and invited my in laws along as well. The accommodation is spacious enough for us not to get in each others way and all to relax in front of the log burner in the large lounge in the evening together.

Facilities at the accommodation were ample for our needs, and the hospitality experienced from the locals was very friendly and welcoming.

Can't fault anything to do with our break, and the weather held out for us as well (only one day of rain in the week)

Definitely recommend this property and location and will consider booking it again.

My thanks to the owners of the property, the lady from next door (who looks after the cleaning etc) and the locals (including the sheep) for making it such an enjoyable stay.

Comfortable cottage, wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

Holly cottage is a pretty, characterful and homely old cottage with comfortable beds and two good bathrooms. The kitchen is adequate, with all modern appliances, though may be difficult if cooking full meals for eight people As dishing up space is limited. Just a short walk from the cottage is the local pub which serves good food, two tea shops and the excellent outdoor museum. It is possible to walk to the blacksmiths arms in the next village which serves fabulous food, and the Royal Oak in Gillamore is a pleasant though slightly more challenging walk. The moors which are all around the village are absolutely beautiful and we will definitely be returning to this area.

We Loved staying at the Holly Cottage!!! So quaint and authentically English!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Holly Cottage was just what we needed after a few days in busy London. We loved the English countryside. So beautiful and different from our home in Arizona. We loved the museum and foot trails and the sheep too! The Crown Pub has the best meat pies ever! We enjoyed the gift shops, tea shops, and chocolate too. Every room in the cottage was adorable and kitchen modern enough for us. We had a lot of rain and cold weather for June so we didn't get to take advantage of the pretty garden. We hope one day we can go back.

Just the Job

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at Holly Cottage! It was just perfect for a family get together! Everyone in the village is extremely friendly and helpful. The weather was beautiful so we were able to enjoy the garden as well as the cottage. We recommend the Crown for both their hospitality and food. There are lots of nearby places to visit too. The sheep are adorable! We would certainly stay there again. xx
