About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2. Views of Ochil hills

Romantic Getaway for two in the Heart of Scotland.

Thimblewynd is situated in the conservation area of the Historic Village of Dunning. The Cottage is newly renovated and is a typical terraced cottage of the 1860s.

The 1st floor consists of a large bedroom with a king sized brass bed, this leads into a luxurious drench ensuite shower room. The living room is on the ground floor, there is a leather sofa for two, which is perfect, to cosy up and enjoy the crackling of a log burning stove on a chilly evening. The galley kitchen is small but has all mod cons, including a dishwasher, induction stove and microwave.

What is not typical of Thimblewynd is its large but secluded back garden, This can be accessed from the kitchen as well as a vennel, allowing for easy, but safe storage of bikes, canoes etc.

The Hot Tub of course is the perfect place to relax of an evening and star gaze, whether that is on a cool summer evening or in the middle of winter.

Adam and I have recently refurbished Thimblewynd with the aim of creating a romantic hideaway for couples who are looking to take some time out together, but don’t always have the luxury of time!

Talking of Luxury, Gleneagles is only10 miles away with its golf course and 4 restaurants, including the 2 Michelin star Andrew Fairlie Restaurant. Dunning, however for the more pocket conscious boasts its own Golf Course, Tennis courts and 2 village pubs, both serving excellent food.

Wow - would give 6 stars!

Fantastic cottage, beautifully furnished to such high spec throughout right down to fluffy robes! We had everything we could need - and more - to make the best of a few days relaxation. The garden is beautiful and secluded; hard to believe you're surrounded by houses. The village is lovely too, had a friendly welcome at both pubs. We can't wait to go back!

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just had a wonderful stay in Thimblewynd Cottage. Beautiful cottage which mixes old and new features. The cottage also has an amazing garden, which the photographs don't do justice to. Would love to return.

Beautiful, little getaway .

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my wife wanted a few romantic nights away. The cottage was beautiful and the pictures don't do it justice, the back garden is beautiful and secluded, you wouldn't know you were in a town, quiet and peaceful with no on overlooking it and the icing on the cake was the hot tub. To sum it up, a perfect few nights away in a perfect little cottage.

PS. Thanks Maggie you couldn't have been more helpful. Hopefully we will be down again.

Quaint, cosy, with secret garden

  • 5 of 5

The property is set in the quaint village of Dunning. There is a local shop and pub that serves good food.

Inside the property feels cosy and peaceful and in the evening you can light a log fire. The owners have paid great attention to detail with lots of little additions around the house and garden for you to discover.

The secluded garden is an interesting space to relax and probably makes the property. Of course there is also the hot tub too.

It's a great space for a couple to get away, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will likely return in the future.

A place with a lot of warmth.

Spent a few days just for a little break. What a lovely house. Very peaceful and a good location if you plan to do a bit touring of the surrounding area.

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautiful and tastefully decorated. A mixture of old features with modern makes it a very pleasant place to stay. Everything we needed was there and the hot tub was amazing. Will definitely return and highly recommend it. Owners kept us updated and offered any assistance if needed.

Why Maggie Moore chose Dunning

We love Thimblewynd. We should. It’s got a lot going for it. Thimblewynd is a terraced 1860 C-Listed Cottage found in the Perthshire village of Dunning. Renovated in 2017, we have created a little hideaway, that ticks a lot of boxes. Hot-tub? Yes. Log burner? Yes. Gastropub on the corner? Yes. Village shop and post office at the bottom of the street? Yes, that as well.

We are pretty chuffed to have Thimblewynd in our lives and will be delighted to share it with you.

And then there’s Dunning…

As a village, it’s probably Perthshire’s best keep secret. It’s tiny, but it holds a pay to play golf course ( tennis courts, two pubs, pick you own fruit farm and shop, loads of walks, cycle routes and lots of history. Within 2 minutes you can find a 800 year old church built on a spot where 6 century St Serf supposedly slew a dragon. In it they’ve popped a 9th Century Pictish Carving (more info can be found here

If you really love your history you’ll already know about the Dunning Roman camp, burning of witches and the links to the Viking Rollo. Won’t go on, but the point is it’s old and there’s stuff to look at. If that’s not enough for you, Perth is 15 minutes away by car, Glasgow and Edinburgh are 60 minutes away. Dunning is very close to the A9.

That’s if the bottle of bubbly waiting in the fridge doesn’t tempt you to hang up your car keys…
