About the property

Luxury Romantic Getaway

Thimblewynd holiday rental has been described as one of the "best in Scotland with hot tub" (The Scotsman Newspaper).

Born in 1860, Thimblewynd is a C-Listed period cottage found in the historic village of Dunning, Perthshire. Thimblewynd has grown into a luxury romantic hideaway with plenty of benefits.

Secluded Hot tub experience? Yes. Log Burner? Yes. Gastropub on the corner? Yes. Village shop at the bottom of the street? Yes that as well.

We are chuffed to have Thimblewynd in our lives and are delighted to share it with you.

It's a place that just feels right and a huge investment has been taken to ensure it has everything a couple may need to enjoy a special time together (hot tub, log fire, smart tv, wifi, record player, board games...)

Reviews show that while guests enjoy a real sense of seclusion and getting away from it all, they also enjoy all the amenities of our village location. The local shop is incredibly well stocked and perfectly situated should you have forgotten to bring an everyday (or romantic) essential.

What is particularly unique is our secluded walled garden. In the sunshine you can enjoy the hammock and bbq. In Scotland we all know you can't guarantee the weather, so we have installed covered areas to let you enjoy the space no matter what. The hot tub remains uncovered to let you star gaze together. It's pretty special.

Inside, it continues to be about luxury and being together. The kitchen is fully equipped. The living space is cosy and full of stuff to do. Wifi (obviously), board games, books, a vinyl record player with LPs (or bring your own) and Smart TV (easily link to your netflix or amazon prime account). The log burner is always a hit. Upstairs you find the large bedroom, with king-size brass bed, shuttered windows and a beautiful view. The ensuite bathroom includes a drench shower, towels, robes and organic bath products.

About Maggie Moore

The Thimblewynd Story.

Thimblewynd was created by Maggie and Adam as a space to relax and get away from it all. A space for a couple to be together.

As busy parents they didn't always fancy the formality of a hotel and found the average 'minimum 3 night stay policy' with a holiday-let too constraining (who has a babysitter that generous?)

Maggie Moore purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Maggie Moore chose Dunning

The real magic of the place hasn't just been what has been added to Thimblewynd to get it right on the inside. It is also about what is to be found in Dunning itself. Step outside and you are moments away from beautiful walks, wild swimming, fields and forests full of nature (Thimblewynd even has a returning housemartin family that lives in the adjoining vennel).

The local pub on the corner (The Kirkstyle) is warm, inviting, does amazing food and live music. Another pub close by has regular open night jamming sessions.

And when you return at the end of an evening, find yourself stargazing from the hot tub, with a log fire waiting in the living room you'll probably think it's been time well spent.

And that should be the end of the story...

But it's not, in the morning when you wake, after a luxurious drench shower and perhaps another dip in the hot tub what could be better than the best all day breakfast waiting for you at the local golf club.

This, however, is just one story. Each guest at Thimblewynd will create their own....

What makes this cottage unique

Loads of logs for the fire. Bottle of prosecco waiting in the fridge.

The great escape

  • 5 of 5

We are parents of 2 teen-agers and were in need of some relaxation. Thimblewynd was perfect. We stayed for 3 nights. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard. The owners have made sure it is an oasis of calm. The garden was great to sit in with a book and a cuppa. The hot tub is an extra bonus. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage and hope to return soon. Thank you.

Great location and charming cottage for a quiet getaway with pub, shop and walks on the doorstep

  • 5 of 5

Dunning is a well - placed village and has a great pub (book in advance!), shop and lovely surroundings. We were really impressed with it. We had our cocker spaniel with us for a weekend away and the garden was fantastic. Safe and enclosed, he enjoyed having the outdoor space and also cosying up with us in the living room and the log burner. The bedroom and bathroom were a really great size and gave us perfect space. The prosecco on arrival was welcome after a 10 hour drive and the kitchen had everything we needed. The hot tub was bliss and even when the weather was a bit wet we used the canopy and enjoyed it. We had one small issue with the heating which was solved without a fuss in a matter of hours, great service and it didn't impact on us at all. Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to come back!

Lovely property in a lovely village

  • 3 of 5

Stayed here for a long weekend and thought the house was lovely, hot tub is a fab addition. Would be good if leisure towels were provided for hot tub so didn't need to use same towel after showering. Garden was quirky and nice but could perhaps do with a clean, the summer house was dirty. Didn't think the sofa was the most comfortable and not at a good angle for watching the TV, was getting a sore neck! Apart from that, great place and a 2 min walk to the pub down the road.
