Overview

About the property

Wiggy's Cottage - a holiday cottage that sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms

Wiggy's Cottage is an adorable old fisherman's cottage in one of the quietest little back streets of St Mawes only moments from the harbour. With the Rising Sun being literally a stone's throw away, the Harbour with the ferries to Falmouth, Truro and Place and the local beaches only a short walk away, you could quite easily not have to use your car at all when you stay at Wiggy's.

Originally constructed around 200 years ago, this charming old terraced cottage is part of one of the oldest streets in St Mawes which happens to be one of the quietest and most convenient places to stay. There is a small private car park opposite the front door and Wiggy's has the benefit of a private space just yards away. The property also has the benefit of a very private 2 level rear patio garden which is a delightful place to enjoy the afternoon sun or an evening BBQ. (BBQ not provided but you may bring your own).

Accommodation

The front door, gives access to the ground floor that is floored throughout with quarry tiles and is heavily beamed.

Ground Floor: The comfortable lounge has TV with DVD, music centre, and a multifuel stove. Leading off the lounge is the dining room and to the rear is the kitchen with electric oven & hob, microwave oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. There is a ground floor shower room & WC right at the back of the house with a utility area that has a washing machine & dryer. Iron & ironing board.

First Floor: Stairs from the dining room lead to the little landing with the main double bedroom to one side. All full of character these rooms are naturally smaller than you would find in a modern house but still offer a really comfortable place to stay. The family bathroom with WC and wash hand basin leads off the main corridor with a 4'6" double room and a single bedroom to one end.

Exterior: There is a private enclosed 2 level patio garden to the rear with garden furniture.

Facilities & Services

Inclusive of electricity, heating, bed linen & towels, but you will need to bring your own beach towels. A basket of logs and some coal for the log burner is provided during the colder months but, once this is used, more can be purchased locally. There is Superfast broadband available at the property.

Miscellaneous

Parking for one car. Up to 2 dogs permitted at Wiggy's at the additional charge of £25 per dog, further dogs by arrangement only. Strictly no smoking at the property. There are local shops, pubs & restaurants in St Mawes. Other pubs are available in Portscatho (about 10 mins drive), Philleigh (about 10 mins), Ruan Lanihorne (20 mins) or Veryan (15 mins)

A delightful week at Wiggy’s

  • 5 of 5

I have just stayed at Wiggy’s with my daughter and her three year old son. We were delighted with our accommodation. It was convenient, comfortable and cosy. It occurred to me that the owners may have stayed there themselves as they had thoughtfully provided everything we needed. The railing, table and chairs in the back garden may need renewing as the rusty places could be a hazard for little fingers. Nevertheless we really enjoyed our moments in the sun trap. We are certainly booking again!

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

Wiggy’s Cottage was perfect for our trip away with the dogs. It has everything you need for that well deserved holiday, with parking outside and a very short walk into the main harbour of St Mawes which is now our favourite place in Cornwall.

Wiggys is comfortable & clean with a well equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, lovely outside space and very comfy beds. This really is a home from home and I would give it 5 stars. We hope to return again in the future.

We had a lovely week at Wiggy's Cottage and hope to visit again next year. The wood burner was welcome during the snow storm!

Very convenient for walking into St Mawes

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable beds convenient position & parking space close to property, we did get snowed in but that is very unusual there. Enjoyed our stay very much totally relaxing . It is looking a little tired & if it were mine I would get it redecorated & the garden patio pressure hosed, other than that it was lovely & warm with plenty of hot water.

Location

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round.
