Cosy cottage in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week with our 2 teenage boys, Pall met us at the airport and gave us a gps and a phone which was very useful and any problems we had he was always at the end of the phone to help, the cottage was lovely and warm, and was equipped with every thing we needed.

The location of the cottage is ideal for the golden circle and many other places to visit.

The secret lagoon (natural spar) in fludir was wonderful and well worth a visit

Excellent cottage well situated

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Cottage Holl the first week of August 2015 - couple with 2 teenage sons. The cottage was perfect. We really enjoyed the area - the views from the cottage are great and we got great pictures of sunsets. We loved the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables right from the growers and beef from the neighbouring farm as well as coffee at nearby Braggins cafe/pottery. This was a great location to explore key sights - we did lots of sightseeing and hiking on day trips.

Very comfortable, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant time in this warm and comfortable cottage. It had everything you needed for a self-catering holiday. Pall and Sigrun were very welcoming and understanding when our plane was late. The hot tub was popular with all family members. There were plenty of toys and activities to keep children amused. The cottage is extremely well located in terms of views and outlook but also for visiting many places in South Iceland. Food was easily available in nearby Fludir however a longer drive to Selfoss meant much cheaper and greater variety of food. (the veg stop as you enter Fludir was well priced however). There are many attractions within a half hour drive - horse-riding, golf, hot river, Geysir, Gulfoss. I would recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable and peaceful place to stay to explore this amazing area of Iceland.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I really regret taking so long to write this review - Sorry Páll!

We stayed as a group of 3 couples at the cottage for a week in January during what I understand was unusually snowy weather even by Icelandic standards! Our journey from the airport (much like all journeys to come that that week) was difficult, but Páll had kindly met us at the airport to exchange keys etc and lent us a GPS for no charge which was already programmed to get us to the cottage. Walking into the lovely warm cottage that evening was great and we were very pleasantly surprised. Beds were all comfortable, there really was everything we needed and more (loved the coffee machine). The hot tub was great after days of adventures, great TV facilities, drying room etc and even during an absolutely awful wind/snow storm one evening the cottage remained lovely and warm and dry! Páll (the owner) could not have done more for us, calling to warn us of incoming bad weather, lending us a mobile phone to make local calls/reservations with etc etc.

We hope to be back soon (when it's not snowing...), the cottage is a great location for exploring with Gulfoss etc nearby, and a handy shop just up the road. It's also far enough away from the towns to be able to get great views of the Northern Lights.

Best Stay in Iceland

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed a week in Pall's cottage and thought this was by far the best accomodation of the five vacation rentals we have had in Iceland.

You feel that the cottage is not only built for rental but that the owners live there from time to time as well.

The cottage provides all that you would expect plus some more for a very fair price:

- Luxury jacuzzi on the patio.

- The cottage was well stocked with everything that you would nee: washer, wifi, propane barbecue, very well equipped kitchen with excellent coffee/espresso maker and all you would need.

- Wonderful views of Langjökull glacier and surrounding mountains with great sunets if weather permits.

The positive impression started at the airport, where Pall (the owner) met us to hand over keys, a navigation system, a local phone and instructions on the cabins. Pall even gave us a ride to the rental cars, so we did not have to look and wait for the shuttle.

We strongly recommend the cottage as a home base for touring the south-west of Iceland. With our 4x4 we did day-tours as far as Landmannlaugar in the East and Reykjanes in the West. For most other hikes, we only had a drive of 15-45 minutes from the cottage, which was very convenient. Sights like Gulfoss and Geysir are a mere 20min drive, so you can visit them in the evening (e.g. after your own barbecue dinner on the patio), way after the bus crowds have left to Reykjavik.

If there is one thing to improve, it would be the mattresses in the bunk bed and the size of the queen sized beds in the 2 master bedrooms. I also would recommend the cottage for only up to 4 persons, even if it would accomodate 6 persons.
