About Paulo Correia
Born in S. Miguel Azores, in the late 1960's then in my early teens and a result of hard economic oppression, my family among many others uprooted and hoped on board the immigration convoy. For several decades Ontario Canada is my place of residence. Ready to work hard and hope for a brighter future, over the years often returning to visit my Azorean roots. In particular the island of São Miguel and the passion for nature and ocean lead to the purchase of this home and piece of paradise. My family and I We would be honored at the opportunity to have you come and visit and make one of your holiday homes choice.Over the years we remain hard at work aiming at making things right. We await your visit and we would be delighted and privileged for the opportunity to host your stay. From all of us (An Ocean filled of sunshine and warm Azorean hugs)
Paulo Correia purchased this Bungalow in 2007
Why Paulo Correia chose Ribeira Grande
This location is perfect, with easy access to all parts of the Island. We purchased this home for the simple fact that it is situated right by the ocean! This very cozy home provides us with plenty of privacy. We enjoy our daily walks through the property all the way to ocean side. The abundant six acre parcel of land surrounded by many century old trees and the sound of chirping birds and ocean waves against the lava rocks is very soothing and delightful. The fact that this house up until the early 1940’s was the local primary school for the then very small population of this town became very intriguing to us. This town’s population in 2016 is still less than 2000. Here we satisfy our love for the ocean by snorkeling and fishing alone or by joining the locals. We also love driving right in and out of the property and access by an automated gate, we park in total privacy, We love the fact that this location offers the best of both, privacy and a sense of being disconnected from the rest of the world, while at the same time it is well balanced with all the conveniences very close by.
What makes this Bungalow unique
History and its original architectural, the coziness and sound of nature and ocean creates a perfect ambiance. Also very appealing and unique is that you can walk down your very own private way to the ocean. The ocean is safely located one thousand feet away from the back of the house; 500 feet is flat garden land a large gate separates 500 more feet of a slight downward descending walkway that takes you to end of the property and you walk to ocean side. Here at this is a natures reserve, the water has earned a symbol of quality (Pocos Das Calhetas Bandeira Azul) Blue flag of distinction and undisturbed nature. Here you can go for a swim, snorkel, fish or you can just take in the ocean's grandeur and amazing endless views. At your door step is an easy to do hiking trail. The bedrooms are air conditioned with the latest individually controlled Panasonic ultra quite units. This home up until the early 1900's was the town's school. Homes like this one that offers tradition, great service on request, direct access to the ocean is not the norm here. Apart from this one, there are no homes that have direct access to the ocean. This is mainly due to the fact that like other island in the archipelago São Miguel nature is that of mostly cliffs around the ocean. The added fact that the original stone oven is still operational, and today is being used to cook authentic Azorean food is an absolute gem! The very thick stone walls of this house add a constant regulated indoor temperature, making it a very cozy place to spend a lot of time indoors. We carefully renovated, by bringing the entire house up to date, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the old world charm; Most recently, year end of 2012 we have introduced the private in property parking behind a remote controlled gate. For our Golf enthusiasts We have a special arrangement with the Batalha Golf; We offer you the same special Golf rates as the Hotels that cater to Golf Tournaments!

Great location in paradise
Paulo’s property was awesome. My family of 4 were picked up at the airport and brought to the house where breakfast was waiting on us. The house is in a very central location on the island which made everything so convenient. The ocean is a short walk out the back gate. It’s beautiful! The house has everything you would need and it was nice to use the washer and dryer after atv or horseback riding. There is a very nice new car available to rent with the house. It was so easy! I would recommend this house in the most beautiful island I have ever seen!
High expectations exceeded
I am the definition of a frequent flyer, typically spending 150+ days a year on the road (mostly business, but my wife joins me, for business and pleasure, 2-3 weeks a year). I’ve stayed at many of the world’s top rated resorts and hotels, as well as rental properties. I have enjoyed a mere handful as much as I did at Paulo’s.
From the moment he met us to check us in, with a grocery bag full of goodies in hand, he was a wonderful and gracious host.
The property, meanwhile, is astounding. There’s the main building, with two bedrooms (and bunk beds allowing for up to 8, if you want to get cozy), and a surprisingly roomy and well-equipped kitchen. I wish we’d gotten around to using the wood-fires pizza oven but we used everything else.
The large and completely private garden patio, with raised dining deck, would. E enough to satisfy most travelers...but when you open the back door you discover a yard that extends several 100 yards back to the ledge overlooking the ocean, with a path leading to the natural pools where you can take a dip. There is also a partially enclosed (and covered) patio room where you can stretch out with a local gin and tonic and enjoy watching the sun go down.
(One of the delights is that the spit of land sticks out just far enough that you can go down to the rocky ledge and see both sunsets and sunrises!
We’ve seldom stayed “on premises” as much as we did here...
...but when we did venture out we were delighted by what we discovered, realizing that those who are calling the Azores the new “IT” vacation spot are right on the money.
No, it doesn’t have the night life or the art scene of a Barcelona or Portugal’s Algarve...which some will find a good thing. The cuisine scene is surprising good, and delightfully affordable. (And if you use Paulo’s Kitchen, the local Continente markets are very well stocked). Seafood is plentiful, as you expect, and it is worth trying some of the local specialties, like the limpets, bacalhao and wreckfish, but there are also restaurants specializing in the very good local beef and sausages and cheeses
There is great hiking and biking, even kayaking in a vast volcanic crater lake. Furnas, as the town’s name suggests, has thermal steam baths.
Another pleasant discovery: surprisingly affordable rental cars.
Which brings me back to our rental, perfectly situated to go exploring — or to simply relax.
This was a find of a lifetime — even for a jaded veteran traveler.
Amazing Views, Great Location!
Paulo and Eduardo were amazing! Paulo picked us up at the airport at 7 am and kept us entertained the whole time while we waited till 4 for our check in. It was a packed day and nice to not have to think after a full day of travel. The property was also amazing. It has private access to the beach and was so peaceful to look out every morning at the ocean. The kitchen is fully stocked and the meal Eduardo made our first night was so delicious. It's also not too far from the grocery store and pretty centrally located from all the spots we wanted to go to. Definitely recommend getting a car - it's pretty easy to get around, navigation was no problem. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back!
Great property, near a private beach.
Our kids had lots of fun exploring the rocky beach and surrounding bluffs.
Beautiful and peaceful
An amazing property in a convenient location to great restaurants and centrally located to easily access the main sites and activities on the island. The kitchen had everything imaginable you need to prepare a gourmet meal, the beds were comfortable and the views and access to the ocean was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved our stay on Sao Miguel!
The property was wonderful. The private access to the ocean and outdoor sitting areas was a pleasure every morning and evening. We had no problem getting around the island from the Calhetas house and found convenient grocery and restaurant options. Paulo and Eduarda were gracious hosts who made sure we had what we needed. I highly recommmed this property. Tom & Rachel from Oregon, USA.
